About Us
B.S. Abdur Rahman University (formerly B.S.Abdur Rahman Crescent
Engineering
College) is NAAC accredited with an A grade and has been
imparting qualityeducation in the field of engineering, technology
and management for three decades since
1984. The institution was upgraded as a university in 2009 to
promote education at a
higher and newer plane. Its location on the GST road in the
suburb of Chennai, provides
easy access to all by rail and road transport. Its
well-checkered lay out of high risebuildings with an avenue of
trees interspersed with a lot of greenery makes it a place of
scenic beauty. Aspiring to become a top ranking private
university of international
standing, it encourages out of the box innovations in Teaching-
Learning process,Research and Extension activities.
Department of English
The department of English was established in 1984 to provide
support service. Since
then, it has been teaching Technical English and Communication
Skills for the students
of engineering and management studies with the help of two
Language Laboratories. Thedepartment has signed an MoU with
Cambridge ESOL examinations, London and has
been offering value-added course namely, Business English
Certificate Course since
2009. Subsequent to the attainment of university status, it
elevated itself to the next levelby offering Research studies in
Literature and Linguistics on full time (with scholarship)
and part time basis. The department has been conducting national
and state level
conferences, seminars and workshops on various aspects of
English Language Teachingand Literature in order to equip the
faculties with the current trends in classroom
pedagogy. The faculties have published in refereed national and
international journals.
They have brought out a resource book for the English
course.
About the Workshop
In keeping up with its continuing quest for developing and
enriching the communicationskills of learners, the department of
English is organizing this one-day workshop. The
objective is to train the English teachers in the nuances of
writing an effective Lesson
Plan with greater focus on Technical English and implementing it
successfully. OBTLhas shifted the focus from the teachers who
occupied the centre stage to the learners to
ensure acquisition of competence in communication. The
University has subscribed to the
OBTL methodology and has effected changes in Teaching
Techniques. The departmentconceived it appropriate to provide an
opportunity to gain hands-on experience for the
teachers to become better professionals.

Objectives of the Workshop:
To understand the importance of Outcome Based
Teaching-Learning.
To train teachers in the nitty-gritty of drawing up a Lesson
Plan as per Outcome
Based Teaching Learning.
To align Learning Activities with Learning Objectives. To
demonstrate the way to use the lesson plan in the classroom
effectively.
To assess the effectiveness of the lesson plan

Research scholars - Rs.400/-Late registration or on-the-spot
registration - Rs.700/-
Submission of DD and Application Form
The fee has to be remitted in the form of a Demand Draft in
favour of TheRegistrar, B.S.Abdur Rahman University payable at IOB,
Chennai, drawn from any
nationalized bank. The filled in application form and DD should
reach us on or before 6
October 2014.
