Annual RReportAnnual RReportJuly 006 ~~ JJune 007July 006 ~~ JJune 007
CCEEOO LLeetttteerrDear Friends and Supporters of Family Tree:
Family Tree’s employees and volunteers work tirelessly to helpchildren and youth who are abused or neglected, women andchildren survivors of domestic violence and families who arewithout a roof and walls to call home. We work so hard tohelp our clients become safe, strong and self-reliant. This pastyear we were able to employ new resources to make ourefforts more efficient and effective, but we also said goodbyeto a person who has played a major role in shaping and leadingour organization, and another who generously gave his timeand money to aid us in the work we do.
Former Denver Bronco quarterback, Jake Plummer, discoveredFamily Tree's services three years ago and quickly made theagency one of his top philanthropic beneficiaries. Annually, heand many of his teammates would take dozens of Family Treeclients shopping so their holidays would be just a littlebrighter. He raised money and made significant financial con-tributions to the agency, and he gave his time each spring toprovide the keynote address at our annual Celebration ofAchievement event. Family Tree is grateful for his years ofgenerous support.
In the spirit of an annual report - reporting on the agency'srecently completed year - I rightfully should not be writing thisletter. Ruth Ann Russell, Family Tree's longtime leader, retiredon June 30, 2007 and the past year was completed under herwatchful eye. She guided the agency with a passion most ofus have rarely experienced. Her wisdom and experience havebeen, and will be missed; however her immeasurable contribu-tions to the agency during her tenure have truly left a lastingFamily Tree legacy.
During the past fiscal year Family Tree was the recipient oftwo grants through the Department of Justice Office ofViolence Against Women. One grant assists us in providing
victims of domestic violence with transitional housing servicesand the other, a collaborative with Jefferson CountyCommunity Development and other community partners, enhances our supervised visitation and exchange services ofchildren by parents in situations involving domestic violenceand child abuse. Both of these grants vitally enrich the contin-uum of care Family Tree provides to our community, to helppeople overcome child abuse, domestic violence and home-lessness.
We work tirelessly to help make our community a better placeto live, and we thank each of you for your contribution towardthis effort. We're also grateful for the new tools that enable usto better provide services to our community. But like many ofour not-for-profit partners serving those who need help most,we idealistically reach for the day when our services are nolonger needed. Last year Family Tree served more than31,000 people and provided youth and families more than25,000 nights of shelter - both all-time highs. Every one ofthese persons required Family Tree's help in a unique way, andwe're proud of our ability to meet clients' needs and help themalong the path to self sufficiency. But the need for agencieslike Family Tree is not diminishing.
We appreciate your continued support, and trust that the infor-mation in this annual report will provide you a sense of thegood work accomplished by Family Tree during the past year.
For safe families,
Scott ShieldsChief Executive Officer
