Kim Livgard is a registered European Patent Attorney with more than 14 years of experience in the field of IP law, working with a variety of clients, from small start-ups to large multinational corporations. Most of these are in diverse technical sectors, ranging from biotech, chemical and pharmaceutical sciences to medical devices, diagnostic tools and instrumentation. His opinion and counselling practice includes the areas of infringement, validity, freedom-to-operate advice and patent term extension. He is experienced in evaluating and responding to infringement allegations, as well as providing ‘design-around’ advice and risk analysis. In the field of patents, Kim handles preparation, prosecution, opposition and appeal of Norwegian and European patents.

Thomas is an Attorney at Law and Partner at Onsagers AS assisting domestic and global clients with their trademarks and other intellectual property rights. He is currently listed as a national trademark expert in Who’s Who Legal. His work ranges from developing IP strategy and establishing IP rights, to maintaining and enforcing these rights by dispute resolution and litigation. Thomas has particular experience helping rights owners fight counterfeiters. In this respect, he was a board member of the Norwegian Anti Counterfeit Group and enjoys a close co-operation with the Norwegian Customs. He is a regular at international trademark conferences, such as INTA and PTMG.

Kathrine Kjendlie is a trademarks specialist with more than 24 years of experience, originally as a senior corporate attorney in the pharmaceutical industry and now as part of the Onsagers tra-demarks team. She is a sought-after advisor to pharmaceutical sector clients, but also works with domestic and international companies in other sectors. Her extensive in-house experience including cooperation with regulatory departments gives her a particular advantage in under-standing pharmaceutical clients’ needs. Kathrine has managed international pharmaceuti-cal trademark portfolios. She has established global rights to many trademarks for the Group of companies (now Takeda), including trademark creation, availability search and registration procedures. Her work also included specific trademark strategies, infringements and parallel import as well as drafting various trademark agreements.

Kristoffer Weltzien is a seasoned IP attorney and strategist in IP rights establishment and enforcement, specialised in the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. Weltzien practices an ‘in-house’ approach to his client relationships, working in close collaboration with the client to ensure tailor-made advice. He is also a key player in Onsagers’ cooperation with the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise, and is frequently used as a speaker at its events. In addition, Weltzien’s eight years’ experience as an examiner with NIPO (Norwegian Patent Office) has proved invaluable to his international clients when advising on prosecution and handling of trademark and design applications in Norway.

Ann-Cathrin has worked in Intellectual Property for more than 25 years. As well as being an experienced IP practitioner, she has extensive experience as an in-house lawyer, IP consultant and legal counsel at NIPO (Norwegian Patent Office). She brings invaluable, client-side industry experience to Onsagers, having worked in-house as head of IP department in an international pharmaceutical corporation for 7 years and as head of IP department in a telecommunication company for 4 years. She therefore understands IP from a business perspective, and has extensive knowledge in handling IP portfolios. Henning is a European Patent Attorney with 12 years of experience, principally in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Aquaculture, and General Chemistry sectors. He acts as an expert client advisor on protecting Intellectual Property Rights, and drafts and prosecutes patent applications before NIPO (Norwegian Patent Office) and the European Patent Office. Henning also has experience in company due diligence, FTO’s, and developing client strategies and policies for IP management. Henning has previously been a Manager of the DNA Sequencing core facility in The Biotechnology Centre of Oslo.

Originally qualifying and working as a chemical engineer, Dorte Lajer is now a European Patent Attorney with 18 years of experience in prosecution and IPR management. She works in a broad range of fields such as process chemistry, catalysis, material science, renewable energy, solar cells, inorganic chemistry, oil & gas technology, composites, organic chemistry, mineral mining and fertilizers. Dorte handles IPR ‘due diligence’ evaluations and assists her clients with all aspects of IPR management in Norway and Europe. Specifically, she drafts, files, and prosecutes patents and oppositions. Defending clients’ rights at oral proceedings and in appeals to the EPO Board of Appeals and KFIR, the Norwegian equivalent, is another aspect of her work. She also prepares IPR strategies and performs Freedom to Operate analyses.

Liv-Heidi Thoresen is a European Patent Attorney, former NIPO and In-house counsel and Chartered Engineer with more than 20 years of IP experience in specialist industries such as: biochemistry, biotechnology, medicine/ pharmaceutics, general organic and inorganic chemistry, process, food, water treatment and aquaculture. She is involved in drafting and prosecuting patent applications nationally and internationally, providing client-tailored advice about patents, evaluation and handling oppositions, evaluation of risk of infringement and patent validity evaluation. She is also a client counsellor and representative in legal patent disputes concerning infringement and validity. Sh has acted as technical/IP Counsellor in varied pharmaceuticals industry litigation cases concerning active ingredients such as: bicalutamide, valsartan, sildenafil, donepezil and olanzapine. Liv-Heidi has also worked with as In-house counsel with IP- management in explorative projects for new chemical entities and chemical entities in development, and done IP Due diligence on acquisition candidates for GE Healthcare.

Kristin Holmgren is a Patent Attorney, and previous NIPO examiner, who has been working in Intellectual Property since 2006. She has a degree in biotechnology and has experience with patenting of life science and chemistry; in particular she is familiar with legal aspects of patenting within life science, such as biological materials, recombinant gene technology and uses in medicine. Her previous role as s Sectional Engineer working in Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine means she understands different laboratory and analytical techniques, like cell culturing, cloning, PCR-analysis, genetic analysis, immunoassays, DNA/protein/microarrays, chromato-graphy etc. Kristin has extensive experience with providing sequence searches and searches regarding prior art, freedom to operate and invalidity.

Kari Simonsen is a European Patent Attorney with more than 20 years’ Life Sciences/Pharma-ceutical sector IPR experience, specializing in Chemistry, Pharmacy and Bio-technology. She was formerly a Senior Examiner at The Norwegian Industrial Property Office (NIPO). Today, Kari assists clients in drafting and handling patent applications and oppositions, freedom-to- operate evaluations, infringement issues and IP strategy. In the last 12 years Kari has acquired extensive experience of Infringement and Validity in numerous pharma sector patent litigation cases in Norway. These include: paroxetine, citalopram, escitalopram, omeprazole, lansoprazole, atorvastatine, alendronate, bicalutamide, donepezil, irbesartan, oxycodone, sildenafil, formoterol/budesonide, and several others.
