Year 7 Update Mr Michael Graham, teacher

Homework and Assessment Tasks

Year 7 has done a great job settling in to their new school and with the year flying by, it’s time to turn our focus to our learning. Our teachers set homework and assessment tasks to reinforce and build on what we do in class. This work MUST be completed. Failure to submit a task by the due date will result in a zero mark for that task.

If a student is having trouble with a task or a subject, we encourage the student to approach the teacher of that subject for advice on what to do.

Top tips for success:

• Use your diary effectively- When you get a piece of homework or an assessment task, make a note in your diary on the due date and add a reminder a few days before it is due to avoid any surprises.

• Organise your time and do a little bit of work every day- At this time of year, there is always homework due, tests to study for, or assignments to complete. Prioritise your work, allocate some time to all of your subjects and do a little bit of homework every night so that the work doesn’t build up and overwhelm you.

• Take advantage of the facilities at school- Your teachers are here to help you so don’t be afraid to ask for clarification or help. Remember that there are no silly questions. We also have Homework Club running from 3:00pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday where you can go to receive free help with any work that you might be finding a bit too challenging.

Art Update

Alana Trovato - Teacher

On the 1st March our Year 10, 11 and 12 students attended the Djamu Art Express Study Day at the Art Gallery of NSW. The unique Indigenous art education program provides opportunities for the students to develop their knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous art and culture.

On the day, these students were guided through various art making workshops as well as insightful discussions about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander concepts, perspectives and cultural practices.

In addition to the Djamu program, Year 12 Visual Art students also had the opportunity to visit the Art Gallery of NSW. They heard talks from this year’s Art Express entries and took part in a tour through the 2018 Art Express exhibition. The event focuses on supporting the students in their development of their art making component of the Higher School Certificate in Visual Arts.

Overall, the students who attended came away feeling inspired and motivated to incorporate unique and creative perspectives into their art making.
