Term 1 Week 10, 2nd April 2015 Dear Parents, Term 1 is coming to a close and it has certainly been a big term. Thank you to all parents who attended interviews with teachers during the past two weeks to share student learning progress. While interviews are offered formally at the conclusion of Term 1, parents are reminded that we welcome your queries at any time of the year to ensure that you have the information you need to support your child/ren. We’ve enjoyed several extra- curricular activities this term but our core business of teaching and learning in classrooms has also been very productive. With a strong focus on literacy and numeracy at our school, our Site Improvement Plan outlines strategies for implementation in classrooms throughout the year. This will improve the way in which we accommodate individual learners and track progress. An example of this has been the work of teachers this term in year level teams to identify strengths and weaknesses in writing (of a particular genre). Once teachers had identified common weaknesses, they worked together to plan learning activities to lift the quality of writing across their particular year level and will reassess again next term. Congratulations to the GGPS SAPSASA Football Team! District Champions 2015 Term 1 concludes next Friday 10th April. As a measure of respect, students are required to wear their school uniform on the last day of term as our final assembly will be dedicated to Anzac Day and will be a formal occasion. SAPSASA District Softball Congratulations to Mikyla Payne, Sarah Fry, Matt Price and

Alex Galpin for being selected in the TTG District SAPSASA Softball team. They all enjoyed a week of Softball with the girls winning 4

games and the boys winning 9 games. Luckily for the boys this meant that they won the carnival and received a

winner’s medal for their efforts. Well done on a successful week.

Little Athletics

On the 21st and 22nd March, a number of students from our school qualified for, and participated in, the State Little Athletics Championships at Santos Stadium. Congratulations to Bridget Grant and James Upton who both received a Silver medal and to

Emilaya Ellis who won 3 gold and 2 silver medals.

SAPSASA District Swimming Carnival

On Thursday 26th March, Holly Blundell represented the Tea Tree Gully District in the SAPSASA Swimming Carnival. She managed to gain a place in the finals of the 50 metres Freestyle,

Backstroke and Butterfly, winning a bronze medal in the Backstroke. Congratulations Holly!

Sports Vouchers

In March 2014, the Premier, Hon Jay Weatherill MP, committed to provide a sport

voucher to the value of $50 for every primary school student in South Australia.

The vouchers can be used to subsidise membership or participation fees for a sporting

activity or program which involves a weekly match or training opportunity for at least

10 weeks.

The vouchers can be found on the website: www.sportsvouchers.sa.gov.au. To redeem the Sports Vouchers you can complete the voucher and present it at a

“Sports Vouchers” registered club. Some registered clubs require online registration

and many have already incorporated the redemption of the Sports vouchers into their

online systems.

You can use the website to search for a registered club in your local area and each

voucher is for one child per year.

If you don’t have a computer at home, you can go to the local library where you can

make use of free access to the internet. If you require any additional information or

assistance please email: [email protected]

Canteen News

The last half of this term has been an extremely busy one for all, with swimming week and

Sports Day following each other.

Without our amazing volunteers, the canteen would not have been able to supply the

children with their swim packs and the amount of lunches, coffee and cake etc. on Sports

Day.

This wonderful group of people worked tirelessly in these 2 weeks, some who do not have

children still attending our school! Because of their efforts, we took a record amount of $3,000

on Sports Day. A big heartfelt thank you to the following lovely ladies.

Anzac Day Research The library has a display on Anzac Day to support student learning in

class.

We would like to thank parents who have loaned us resources. Matt

Holloway shared a large number of interesting items from his career in the

navy and army with help from his children Will, Emma, Sophia and Mya.

The display has raised many thought provoking questions from students.

We hope that it has helped make this special centenary year, one

to remember and learn from.

ANZAC day, the 25th April, is about remembering the brave men and women who have served our country in times of war. The Ode of Remembrance: They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. at the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

You are invited to Golden Grove Primary School’s

100th Anniversary of ANZAC DAY CEREMONY

Friday 10th April 2015 at 9:00am on Hard Play 1

HB2 will be presenting the ANZAC day ceremony this year. ANZAC day is commemorated on the 25th of April each year. This year it will be in the school holidays, therefore we will be commemorating on the last day of the term 1.

MEDICATION MANAGEMENT POLICY

DECD First Aid and Medication Management Policies require schools to store or supply medication

to students only if the following important conditions are met:

All medications to be administered at school must be accompanied by a Medication

Authority form and a Health Care Plan for each medical condition. Forms are available from the school or Health Care professionals.

All medications require a separate Medication Authority form. (Only one medication per

authority) All Health Care Plans and Medication Authorities are current for 12 months only and are

reviewed annually. (Although every effort is made to contact parents if medications/plans are due to be updated, this is the parents’ responsibility.)

All medications to be administered at school must be in the original medication bottle or

container and clearly labelled. Labelling must include the name of the student, dosage and time to be administered.

The first dose of new medication should not be administered at school. The student should be supervised by an adult family member or a health professional when the first dose is administered in case of allergic reactions.

Medication to be administered at school must not have passed the expiry date (under no circumstances will expired medication be administered). If a child presents with an

emergency and the medication or plan is out of date, an ambulance will be called. All of the above conditions are required to be met for any and all medications. This includes but is

not limited to: Prescription medications such as Antibiotics, EpiPens, Asthma medication etc.

‘Over the counter’ medications such as analgesics (panadol, heron etc), anti-inflammatory medication (ibuprofen, nurofen etc), as well as vitamins, supplements, topical creams/lotions

etc. Please note: Except for diagnosed conditions that require regular medication (asthma, allergies etc), most medical conditions/complaints will not require the administration of medication during

school hours. For example, medication that is required to be taken 3 times per day can be taken before school, after school and at bedtime. For short term medical conditions (cold/flu, virus/

bacterial infections etc.) we ask parents to give careful thought as to whether or not their child requires medication to be taken at school, and if they are unwell enough to require medication, consider if they are in fact well enough to be at school at all. If it is decided that it is in the best

interest of the child that medication is required then Medication Authorities and any relevant care plans must accompany the medication to school.

This above information also applies for all camps and excursions.
