Energy and water consumption

– Water consumption and energyusage are determined by the size ofthe load.To make the most out of yourmachine load the maximum dry loadfor the programme you are using.

– Use the Automatic and Quick washprogrammes for small loads.

– If smaller loads are washed using theCottons Hygiene and the CottonsUniversal programmes, the automat-ic load recognition system willreduce the amount of water, time andenergy used. This may mean that thetime left shown in the display isadjusted during the course of thewash programme.

– Instead of using Cottons Hygiene95°, use Cottons Universal 60° andselect the Extra option Intensive. Thiswill give an energy saving ofbetween 35% and 45%. Theprogramme duration will be longer. This combination is sufficient formost levels of soiling. For stubbornor old stains, use the Extra optionSoak.

Detergent

– Do not exceed the amounts ofdetergent recommended by themanufacturer on the packaging.

– Reduce the amount of detergent forsmaller loads (use the Detergentsub-menu).

Choosing the correct Extra options(Soak, Pre-wash, Intensive)

Select:

a wash programme with the Extraoption Intensive for normal to heavilysoiled laundry with visible staining.

– Use the Extra option Soak instead ofPre-wash. If Soak is followed immedi-ately by a main wash the same sudsare used.

When drying with a tumble dryer

– Selecting the highest possible spinspeed for the wash programme willsave energy when drying in a tumbledryer afterwards.

All modern detergents produced forautomatic washing machines aresuitable, including liquid, compact(concentrated), tablets, liquid tabletsand special application detergents.Use dispensing aids, e.g. balls, if theseare supplied with the detergent. Tabletsare suitable for full loads but note that itmay be impractical to reduce tablets forsmaller loads. Some tablets do notdissolve as rapidly as others and maynot be suitable for Quick washprogrammes.

Silks, woollens and knitwear containingwool mixtures and hand-washablegarments should be washed using aliquid detergent specifically designedfor washing woollens. Do not usebiological detergents on silk as theenzymes may damage the silk!

Instructions for use and recommendedamounts for a full load are given on thedetergent packaging.

Liquid detergent should be dispensedusing a ball provided by themanufacturer for programmes without apre-wash.

For programmes with a pre-wash youwill need to purchase a specialcontainer from the Miele Spare Partsdepartment which sits in the main washcompartment j of the detergentdispenser drawer. Add liquid detergentto this container for the main wash andto compartment i for the pre-wash.

The right amount to dispense willdepend on the following:

– The quantity of laundry (follow themachine’s dispensingrecommendation and reduce theamount of detergent with smallerloads as indicated on the display)

– The soiling level of the laundry.Lightly soiled No visible dirt or stains.Possibly slight body odour.Normally soiled Visibly dirty and/orjust a few slight stains.Heavily soiled Stains and soilingclearly visible.

– The water hardness level. Check withyour local water supplier if you do notknow the water hardness level inyour area.

Water softenersA water softener can be used to cutdown on the use of detergents inextremely hard water areas. Dispenseaccording to the amount specified onthe packaging. First add detergent andthen the water softener. Use a quantityof detergent as for soft water. Miele donot recommend connecting themachine to a household water softener.

Washing with severalcomponentsIf you wash using several components(e.g. special application detergents),dispense them into compartment j inthe following order:1. Detergent2. Water softener3. Stain removerThis way the agents are distributedmore efficiently.

Installation surfaceA concrete floor is the most suitableinstallation surface for a washingmachine, being far less prone tovibration during the spin cycle thanwooden floorboards or a carpetedsurface.

Please note the following points:

^ The machine must be level andsecurely positioned.

^ To avoid vibrations during spinning, the machine should not be installedon soft floor coverings.

If installing on a wooden joist floor:

^ We recommend a plywood base(at least 59x52x3 cm). The baseshould span several joists and bebolted to the joists and not only to thefloorboards. Check for the presenceof pipes and cables.

If possible, install the machine in acorner, as this is usually the most stablepart of the floor.

,If the machine is installed on araised plinth, it has to be securedagainst slippage during spinningusing retaining clips (available fromthe Miele Spare Parts Dept).

Installing the washing machineTo manoeuvre the machine out of itspacking case to its installation site holdit by the edge of the lid where itprotrudes to the rear of the washingmachine as well as by the handlerecesses at the front.

Please note:

^ Do not lift the machine by the drumdoor.

The Miele Waterproof systemThe Miele Waterproof system protectsthe washing machine from waterdamage.

The system consists of three maincomponents:

1) the inlet hose

2) the electronic unit and the washingmachine housing

3) the drain hose

1) Inlet hose

– The inlet hose is fitted with anadditional electrical safety valvewhich works like an automaticstopcock and is housed in the inlethose connection box.

– It is pressure tested to between7,000 and 10,000 kPa.

– The inlet hose has a protectivesleeve.

Any leaking water from the inlet hoseis fed into the sump through thisprotective sleeve. A float switches offthe safety valve, preventing any morewater from flowing into the machineand water in the suds container ispumped away.

2) Electronic unit and washingmachine housing

– Sump

Any leaking water is collected in asump in the base of the machine. Afloat switches off the safety valves, preventing any more water fromflowing into the machine and water inthe suds container is pumped away.

– Overflow protection

This prevents the washing machinetaking in too much water. If the waterlevel exceeds a certain level, thedrain pump switches in and pumpsthe excess water away.

3) Drain hose

The drain hose is protected by aventilation system which prevents thewashing machine from beingemptied completely.
