Benefits of Strategic Assured IoT
Service differentiation = increased revenues and market share
▪ Customers can see real-time performance and SLA metrics associated with their service within minutes of ordering
Key differentiator and a value-add service that can be monetised
▪ CSP can identify premium customers and can target up-sell
▪ Customers understand their own usage profile and choose most appropriate service
▪ CSP NOC understands SLA impact: can prioritize troubleshooting
▪ CSP NOC understands which services are live: can prioritise premium customers
▪ Cross-domain root cause analysis: isolate and repair problems faster
▪ Customer satisfaction/retention is improved

Challenges of Assuring IoT Services
IoT SLA is different
1. Traditional CSP SLAs contain metrics such
as Availability, Latency, Packet Loss, Jitter
2. The IoT device, or Thing SLA may:
a) Operate within a specified area (e.g.
drone must operate within a geo-
spatial area)
b) Follow a predefined route (Drone
flying a mission)
c) Deliver multiple packages in a
consignment to multiple destinations
using the most efficient delivery
route
Challenges of Assuring IoT
1. Can existing Orchestration/Assurance
systems and APIs support the policy
enforcement of the above IoT services?
2. Can existing Assurance systems and APIs
support the KPIs and thresholds required
for monitoring purposes?
3. The current SLA definitions are
value/threshold combinations
4. To support the above scenario, they now
need to support arrays of data instead of
values and apply algorithms to those
arrays
