What is OD?
A process used to enhance both the effectiveness of an organization and the well – being of its members through planned interventions.
TYPES OF INTERVENTIONS
What are Interventions? Interventions are the approaches and
techniques that are applied to improve knowledge, attitudes, skills and performance of individuals and groups concerned and of the entire organization.
They are both data and experienced based.
It is a combination of theory and practice.
What are the types of

• Content – Oriented Interventions
• Process – Oriented Interventions
• Combination of Various Approaches
PERSON ORIENTED
INDIVIDUAL GROUP
Person – Oriented Interventions
Individual– Work best for problems which
are rooted on certain individuals
– Counseling and Coaching •Are used for individuals
Career and Life Planning–Each individual plans by pathing his career and life with the aid of the organization.
Interpersonal Peace Making– Involves the process of making individuals who are in conflict with each other, interface each other through the use of dialogues, group interviews and role play
Group – Are used wherein groups are involved in
the root problem.
–Group Problem Solving Approach•Involves the group in identifying a diagnosing problems and selecting from alternative courses of action their best possible solutions
Content-Oriented Interventions Information
–Survey Research Feedback•Is a specialized form of action
research utilizes surveys about the system and data feedback.
–Management Information System•All data and information about
each individual in the organization are collected from various sources.

Structural Approach– Consists of changing the
structure of roles and required relationships among members of the organization
Process – Oriented InterventionsStrategic Planning– An organized and systematic long
range planning executed by the key officers of the organization has been an effective OD intervention
Management by Objectives and Results (MBO – R)– Joint objective setting by both
supervisor and workers and following it through in terms of results is an OD intervention which is specific and implement able
Grid Organization Development– Are packaged program
approaches which consist of standardized formats, sets of procedures and fixed goals.
Human Resource Management Function– Maintenance is a people
management function that can be used in OD with focus on performance evaluation and compensation evaluation
Combined Approaches
Socio – Technical Systems (STS)– Joins two interlocking
components of any organization that produces goods and services
– Training and Education •Combine various processes of different orientation: content and process, individual, group and organization
