What is Global Outreach?

Global Outreach is strictly a non-profit, IRS-approved foundation, organized to provide service to improve the life-style of the common citizen in Third World countries. At the same time, Global outreach is a Christian mission organization without an affiliation with church or denomination. It is dedicated to helping people of developing countries to meet Christ and help themselves.

Purpose

To motivate and provide opportunities for short-term volunteers and career missionaries to witness for Christ through the utilization of their skills and resources to help the poor.

A Brief History

Global Outreach was organized in 1970 by a group of lay-people who became aware of existing needs in developing countries for farm animals, equipment and technical service. This group accepted the responsibility of helping to meet these needs. After they organized and elected officers, the organization grew so fast that in 1976 two full-time staff consultants were employed as technical project consultants. Global Outreach continued to grow and several years later the first full-time missionary was approved and commissioned for service. Today, the organization has over 194 missionaries in 37 countries and sends over 1,000 short-term volunteers on mission projects each year.

A Word for the Team Leader

1. Every team must have a Team Leader to coordinate with Global Outreach and team members.

2. All monies for per diem should be made out to and sent to Global Outreach. The fees are $50 per day (for every day that you spend the night) per person plus a $100 donation per person toward the team project. See #7 under “How much will it cost?” *Most departure fees from Haiti are included in the price of your ticket

3. Global Outreach requires all team members to be brought through their main office.

4. Global Outreach is offering an insurance policy to cover you while on the field. You are required to purchase this insurance. Forms must be returned three weeks prior to departure. The cost is approximately $2 per day depending on which policy is selected.

5. Because of the high cost of fuel and maintenance, any side trips requested by the team will be charged according to expenses occurred.

6. Global Outreach requires that all teams be processed through our home office. You have the choice of using your own travel agent, or Global Outreach will be happy to help. Global Outreach makes no money on team ministries and wants to help you find the least expensive tickets.

7. Failure to comply with Global Outreach policies will result in cancellation of the team.

You are a MissionaryThe call to missionary life-style is quite clear in the scriptures. Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8 are only two of the many passages recorded that reflect the Christian duty, privilege and challenge to share the love of Christ. The New Testament clearly teaches that God has given us all gifts and that these are to be used to build up the body of Christ.

So you have something to give. You have something to share. Even if what you have is only a little (in your estimation), when given to God it can be greatly used for His purpose.

Your skills and willingness to serve will mean so much to the success of the team efforts. But the experience will also mean a lot to you! You will never be quite the same again and you’ll never regret it!

Your venture into missions will not end when you return home. Your eyes will be opened to so many needs you never before appreciated. You will have many opportunities to share your experiences about how God is working you life. You will do more for missions and mission education when you return than you can realize now.

So make missions a part of who you are. We really can do no less. God bless each of you.

Personal preparationsAre You Prepared Spiritually?A mission trip is not the time to be getting things together with God. Instead, you should be developing and improving your relationship with him now.

Reflect on where you are spiritually. What will give you a richer experience IF you begin to do it now?

Start listening. Are you listening to God? Are there quiet times in your day to reflect on what he is teaching you?

Start reading. Are you spending time in God's word? How consistently? Start speaking. What's your prayer life like? Are you taking time each day

to talk with the Lord? Start responding. Are you seeking to be obedient in the little things? Are

you attempting to apply the things God is teaching you?

Are You Prepared Emotionally? Are you in shape emotionally? Think about these questions:

Are there any unresolved issues or relationships in your life? Are you having any bouts of depression or discouragement that should be

talked out prior to the trip? Would it be wise to talk these out with a pastor, counselor, or friend? Could you be viewing this trip as some sort of therapy for problems in

your life? If you are, what problems are you trying to "escape"? Why?

Are You Prepared Relationally? You will be spending much of your time with a group of people to whom your experience will be closely tied. Consequently, it is important to think through the way you relate interpersonally.

Are you prone to any types of conflict that hinder your ability to work with others? What are they? When are they most likely to occur?

Do you consider yourself a good listener? How might this be improved before joining the team?

Are you comfortable being transparent with others? What factors determine whether or not you will share with another? What obstacles do you have when it comes to being open and vulnerable?

Would you consider yourself to be a cooperative person? Why, or why not? Are there certain circumstances when you find it hard to be cooperative with others? What are they? Do group decisions frustrate you?

Group Cooperation

1) Remember that we have come to learn BEFORE we teach. I may run across procedures that I feel are inefficient or attitudes that I find closed minded. I'll resist the temptation to inform our hosts about "how we do things." I'll be open to learning about other people's methods and ideas.

2) Respect the host's view and practice of the Christian faith. I recognize that one purpose of this trip is to see and experience faith lived out in a new setting.

3) Develop and maintain a servant attitude toward nationals and teammates.

4) Respect my team leader(s) and his/her decisions. 5) Refrain from gossip. I may be surprised at how each person will

blossom when freed from the concern that others may be passing judgement.

6)Refrain from complaining. I know that travel can present numerous unexpected and undesired circumstances, but the rewards of conquering such circumstances are innumerable. Instead of whining and complaining, I'll be creative and supportive. My theme word on this trip will be "flexible."

7) Respect the work that is going on in the country with the particular church, agency, or person(s) that we are working with. I realize that our team is here for just a short while, but that the missionary and local church are here for the long term. I will respect their knowledge, insights, and instructions.

8) Attend all team participation classes and follow-up meetings. 9) Fulfill all logistical requirements. I will comply with all requirements

regarding passports, finances, shots, and so on. 10) Refrain from negative political comments or hostile discussions

concerning our host country's politics. 11) Remember not to be exclusive in my relationships. If my

sweetheart or spouse is on the team, we'll make every effort to interact with all members of the team, not just one another. Refrain from any activity that could be construed as romantic interest toward a national. I realize certain activities that seem innocuous in my own culture may seem inappropriate in other cultures.

Have a good Experience

Global Outreach’s ministry is people (like you!) who respond to mission needs that are not being met by career missionaries themselves.

Take your Bible along. We are dealing in our mission with the total person, not just the body or soul. We will see real physical need. We will see another real world. We will love each person and care for him/her as best we can. We will see spiritual need and will try to share a simple knowledge of the love of Jesus.

We need more awareness of world missions and greater sensitivity to what is happening in the world.

Global Outreach emphasizes giving and praying for missions. If donations are designated, all monies go directly for the designated project. NO money is taken out for administration.

Always be prepared for sudden changes or delays in schedules, time travel and work. Be Flexible!

Matthew 28:18-20Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given me. Therefore go and make disciples in all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.”
