MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
The Oriskany Central School District Board of Education, school staff , and I take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year. Thank you for making Oriskany your school of choice – we work hard to set ourselves apart in how we attend to the individual needs of our students and families. As our mission statement proclaims: “The mission of the Oriskany Central School District is to prepare students to excel in an ever-changing world. We are committed to our tradition of personal attention, positive relationships, and a productive climate for learning.” It is our intent to have our words and actions match our mission statement every day and in every way. Please let us know how we may do a better job of ensuring that the mission statement is enacted.
Beginning this year we are embarking on a multi-year initiative to further establish Oriskany as a school of innovation and high achievement. “Oriskany: Beyond the Box” will provide our students with the experiences necessary to succeed in a competitive global environment. Please look for communications from school throughout the year regarding this exciting initiative.
We thank all of you who are contributing to the success of Oriskany schools and our students. We believe that our partnership is key, and home-school communication is essential for our success. We do our best to provide you with accurate information. This school calendar provides you with our best estimate of activities and events planned for the school year. It is always our hope that changes to this calendar are not required; however, we know that additional opportunities arise and things beyond our control cause us to make adjustments during the school year. We will do our best to notify you in advance of changes to this calendar. In emergencies and for last-minute changes to our schedule we will use our automated telephone notifi cation system. Also, you may use the school’s website when seeking additional scheduling information.
My very best wishes to all of us for a successful school year –
Gregory Kelahan, Superintendent of Schools

Alma MaterNear the hills of Oriskany
Where our forefathers fought and died,We have studied that we might be
Worthy of our ancestral pride.
Chorus
When the sun sets on high school daysEach battle some victory won.
We must aim high in all our waysAnd be proud when our work is done.
Alma Mater, we’ll stand for theeLike a banner that stands unfurled,
Where we’ve entered to work and learnAnd will go forth to serve the world.
Repeat Chorus

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS AND DELAYSOccasionally, inclement weather conditions require that the opening of school be delayed, canceled or that students be sent home early. If, in the judgment of the Superintendent, it is in the best interest of the health and safety of the children to cancel school, this will be done. It is of EXTREME importance that you instruct your children about what they are to do if school is canceled, delayed or dismissed BEFORE the regular hour. Your help and cooperation in this matter are something that we cannot possibly over-emphasize. Only custodial parents or legal guardians can authorize changes in transportation arrangements, so please maintain current information at your child’s convenience.
NOTICE OF SCHOOL BEING CANCELED OR DELAYED WILL BE BROADCAST ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE (WWW.ORISKANYCSD.ORG), THE GLOBAL CONNECT EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM AND THE FOLLOWING NEWSPAPER, WEBSITE, RADIO AND TELEVISION STATIONS:
