Orthodon(c Movements in Pa(ents with Advanced Periodontal Disease: A Clinical and Radiological Study Intoduc(on : Pathologic tooth migra'on (PTM) is defined as a change in tooth posi'on (tooth displacement) resul'ng from disrup'on of the forces that maintain the teeth in a normal posi'on, with reference to the skull by periodontal disease It most commonly occurs in the anterior region and is a common finding associated with periodontal disease
Aim: The aim of the present study was to describes the therapeu'c protocol of combined orthodon'c-‐periodontal treatment and evaluates the effec'veness of periodontal therapy in the maintenance of a healthy periodontal status aTer the orthodon'c treatment.
Material and Methods: Six pa'ents (5 females and 3 males) all with severe periodon''s, mean age 51 years, were treated with Orthodon'c tooth movement, using light and con'nuous forces, was ini'ated 7 to 10 days aTer periodontal therapy. Results: The results suggest that orthodon'c treatment is no longer a contraindica'on in the therapy of severe adult periodon''s. In these case orthodon'cs movements increase the possibili'es of saving and restoring a deteriorated den''on. Conclusion: The orthodon'c treatment combined with periodontal treatment never compromised the benefits of periodontal treatment alone. On the opposite, it appeared to be quite beneficial.
