Wildcat Words

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The space between Thanksgiving and

Christmas is a busy time, filled with many extras

from added events to money spent. It is easy

to be caught in the frenzy of the season, and

for our kids, it is easy to be caught up in the

"wants" rather than the "haves".

What a timely opportunity to remind our

children and ourselves to be grateful. Studies

have shown a strong and consistent

association with gratitude and overall well-

being and happiness. Those who are more

appreciative benefit from improved

health, stronger relationships, and better

coping skills.

How can we foster gratitude in our children?

Teach them to say thank-you. Involve them in

the process of giving whether it is baking for

neighbor or making a card. In addition,

remember that giving your time to others is

often the best of gifts.

Sincerely,

Dana Harrison

Guidance Corner GIFTED SCREENING: One of our district missions is to provide the most appropriate education for all of our students, including Gifted learners. Gifted programs are designed to provide challenge and optimal social-emotional interactions and growth. If you feel your child might be intellectually ‘Gifted’, please contact Ms. Harrison, counselor at 547-3787. A permission for screening will be sent home and results will be shared with you. If a Gifted referral is warranted, your child will be tested by our school psychologist to see if criteria is met for the program.

They provide professional consultations, screening, and assistance in placing children with special needs in appropriate exceptional student education programs or other early intervention services. Interpreter Requests: If you are in need of an interpreter for an event at Osceola, we ask

you to send a request in writing at least two weeks in advance to the

date of your event. We will do our very best to secure an interpreter,

but need your help in asking to notify us as far in advance as you can

to assure we are able to have an interpreter in place. Please

communicate these requests with your child’s teacher and they will

pass them on to the office for processing.

We also ask your consideration and let us know ASAP should you

need to cancel a prearranged interpreter. This is an additional

expense to the SJCSD so we appreciate you helping us to be

conscious of these costs.

YEARBOOK ADS/MESSAGE SALES Yearbook sales will take place after the first of the year. Parents of 5th

grade students have the option to purchase a ¼ page ad and/or a two line

message to be printed in the yearbook. This is a nice way to recognize your child’s accomplishments and to congratulate them on a job well done. A

picture may be included in the ¼ page ad as well. We only accept 4x6 or

smaller and it will have to be sized to fit the area depending upon the length of your ad. You may also use a business card as a way of advertisement for

your business while congratulating your 5th grader. Pictures and business

cards will not be returned. Cost for each ¼ page ad is $25.00. Parents of Pre-K through 5th grade students may purchase a 25-word

message for their child. The cost for each message is $10.00.

Order forms were sent home with your student last week. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Burney at 547-3782.
