Our Begging Journey continues as we prepare to further enrich the lives of our residents . . . Taking the next step – a Leap of Faith

We continue our strong legacy of providing pastoral and spiritual care for our residents, their families,

volunteers and staff. We currently celebrate Mass at Providence Care Centre on Wednesday, Thursday

and Friday in the front lobby – but this space is not optimal for Mass as people pass through on route to

the elevators, we are overflowing and we lack the quiet space for prayer and reflection.

It is time to build the Providence Care Centre Chapel.

PROVIDENCE CARE CENTRE CHAPEL - The Sacred Space

Part of the planning when Providence Care Centre (PCC) was built in 2016, was to accommodate a

Chapel. The Chapel has now been designed and it is our hope that, with your generosity, building will

commence in the spring. To date, fundraising campaigns and initiatives have raised more than $1.6

million of the $2.5 million required to build the Chapel. We will not break ground until all the funds

have been secured.

Under the direction of the Sisters of Providence, PCC provides a distinctive setting for assisted living and

long-term care for the 160 residents, ranging in age from 45 to 102. The Chapel will be welcoming and

usable for people of all faiths and denominations as a place of worship, prayer and quiet reflection.

If you have ever journeyed with a family member, neighbour or good friend who finds out they are no

longer able or safe to return to their home after a stay in the hospital, you understand the immense

feelings of loss and grief they experience.

If you have ever sat with a loved one during their last days on this earth, you have probably come to

learn the comfort you both take from your faith. Having a sacred space to go pray, meditate or reflect is

critical for a person with a life of faith.

It is because we support families through both these times of change (and everything in between) that

we truly recognize the need for the Chapel at PCC.

The campaign has a notable theme; Celebrating, Honouring and Remembering the Women Who Have

Shaped Our Lives. We invite you to consider a donation toward the building of the Chapel to honour,

celebrate and to remember the women who have shaped your life. This may include your Mother, Wife,

Sister, Aunt, Teacher, Friend or a Religious Sister.

A special commemorative book will be placed in the Chapel Narthex to individually recognize these vital

women of influence, the women who have shaped our lives.

We hope you will be generous in your donations to this campaign so we can continue our legacy of

providing pastoral and spiritual care for our residents and their families.

REMAINING FUNDS REQUIRED $1 Million

$180.000

RESIDENT TRANSPORTATION

Our bus that is used for resident outings has served us well for 20+ years, but the past year has been

challenging with recurring mechanical problems resulting in many disappointments as outings were

cancelled, some at very short notice.

This provides us with the opportunity to purchase a bus that will give us more capacity to accommodate

the increasing number of residents who are in wheelchairs, while providing sufficient seating for our

ambulatory residents. We are in the preliminary stages of researching our options and the costs, but

realise that we need to start raising the funds immediately if we are to have a suitable bus available for

the Spring of 2019 so that our Residents are able to continue to enjoy their outings.

Your help toward this very worthwhile and rewarding fundraising project will be very much appreciated

by all the Residents at the Father Lacombe Care Centre and Providence Care Centre.

DINING ROOM ENHANCEMENTS AT FATHER LACOMBE CARE CENTRE

With the increasing number of residents at Father Lacombe

Care Centre dependent on wheelchairs for their mobility and

safety we have a need to furnish our dining rooms with tables

that will adjust to accommodate the arms of a wheelchair

making it easier to pull in close to the table. This gives the

resident the ability to comfortably reach for utensils and

napkin and places them in a much better position to be able

to feed themselves. These tables bring immeasurable dignity

to those who are able to regain their ability to be independent

and enjoy dining with others seated around the table.

HEALING GARDEN, PROVIDENCE CARE CENTRE

With the design, construction and landscaping of the Healing Garden completed, we are now looking

forward to Spring and what will be required for the ongoing maintenance of the Garden. Most certainly

we will require Volunteers who have a passion for and knowledge of gardens, who will nurture our

young garden and help bring it to life so that it can be enjoyed by our current and future residents.

If you have downsized and are living in a Condo and miss your garden please consider volunteering.

For further information please contact Val at [email protected].

We also need ongoing maintenance funds to buy a garden shed, gardening tools, a small lawn mower,

annuals, vegetable and herb seeds/plants and birdseed.

THANK YOU!

FUNDS REQUIRED $180,000
