INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Parishioners,

We are in the last week of October. In this month we make special effort to remember: 1) the need to be people who respect life 2) the prayer of the rosary, and 3) October this year is an Extraordinary Missionary Month.

An intercession we may use during Respect Life Month is, “May God grant us the wisdom and courage to lovingly protect His gift of human life at every stage, in sickness and in health.” The saints were people who had a profound respect for God and life. This coming Friday is the celebration of All Saints. We the church, respect, honor and celebrate people who lived their lives showing a great respect and love for God and their neighbor.

In this country our celebration of All Saints Day is contrasted by the secular, folk festival of Halloween the day before. In effect the three days of Halloween, All Saints and the follow-ing day, All Souls invites us to think about the afterlife. Halloween is a superstitious as well as playful depiction of the effect of corruption of the body and the loss of physical life in this world. One can playfully scare another with the specter of disfigured figures of deterioration such as monsters and ghosts who have lost the ability to live in the flesh. This can remind us that such a scary reality of corruption and death is a lasting reality for those who separate themselves from God. This is the danger of sin in life. The Saints we celebrate remind us of the beautiful destiny of heaven which is meant for all who follow the Lord like the saints. On All Souls Day we pray for those who are on their way through purgatory to the beautiful homeland of heaven after this life.

One of the ways we can grow to be saints is to pray. The rosary is a wonderful prayer that helps us to be open to the aide of the Blessed Mother who points us to Jesus and helps us to pray for others as well.

Finally, this year we remember the 100th Anniversary of Benedict XV’s apostolic letter emphasizing the missionary call to proclaim the Gospel. October 2019 is an “Extraordinary Missionary Month” commemorating this anniversary. To respond to the missionary call in our lives, we can emulate the saints that we will celebrate this week? We can put our faith into action by realizing what Pope Francis says of the Baptized, “I am a mission, always; you are a mission, always every baptized woman and man is a mission.” Let us spread the gospel by helping our church more in our contributions in Sunday collections, in the Annual Catholic Ap-peal 2019 and our on-going Generations in Faith 5 year campaign. This is while not forget-ting prayer and good works in the parish and outside the parish for the glory of God. Have a blessed All Saints Day this Friday.

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PÁRROCO

Queridos feligreses,

Estamos en la última semana de octubre. En este mes hacemos un esfuerzo especial para re-cordar: 1) la necesidad de ser personas que respeten la vida 2) la oración del rosario, y 3) octubre de este año es un Mes Misionero Extraordinario.

Una intercesión que podemos usar durante el Mes del Respeto de la Vida es: "Que Dios nos con-ceda la sabiduría y el valor para proteger amorosamente Su don de vida humana en cada etapa, en la enfermedad y en la salud". Los santos eran personas que tenían un profundo respeto por Dios y por la vida. Este próximo viernes es la celebración de Todos los Santos. La iglesia, respetamos, honramos y celebramos a las personas que vivieron sus vidas mostrando un gran respeto y amor por Dios y su prójimo.

En este país nuestra celebración del Día de Todos los Santos contrasta con la fiesta secular y popular de Halloween el día anterior. En efecto, los tres días de Halloween, Todos los Santos y al día siguiente, El día de Difuntos nos invita a pensar en el más allá. Halloween es una representación su-persticiosa y lúdica del efecto de la corrupción del cuerpo y la pérdida de la vida física en este mundo. Uno puede asustar juguetonamente a otro con el espectro de figuras desfiguradas de deterioro como monstruos y fantasmas que han perdido la capacidad de vivir en la carne. Esto puede recordarnos que una realidad tan aterradora de corrupción y muerte es una realidad duradera para aquellos que se separan de Dios. Este es el peligro del pecado en la vida. Los santos que celebramos nos recuerdan el hermoso destino del cielo, que está destinado a todos los que siguen al Señor como los santos. En el Día de Todas las Almas oramos por aquellos que están en camino a través del purga-torio a la hermosa patria del cielo después de esta vida.

Una de las maneras en que podemos llegar a ser santos es orar. El rosario es una oración mara-villosa que nos ayuda a estar abiertos al ayuda de la Santísima Madre que nos señala a Jesús y nos ayuda a orar por los demás también.

Por último, este año recordamos el centenario de la carta apostólica de Benedicto XV en la que se hace hincapié en la llamada misionera a anunciar el Evangelio. Octubre 2019 es un "Mes Misionero Extraordinario" que conmemora este aniversario. Para responder a la llamada misional en nuestra vida, ¿podemos emular a los santos que celebraremos esta semana? Podemos poner nues-tra fe en acción al darnos cuenta de lo que el Papa Francisco dice de los Bautizados: "Yo soy una misión, siempre; eres una misión, siempre toda mujer y hombre bautizado es una misión". Difun-damos el Evangelio ayudando a nuestra iglesia más en nuestras contribuciones en las colecciones dominicales, en la Campaña Católica Anual 2019 y nuestra campaña de 5 años de Generaciones en Fe. Esto es sin olvidar la oración y las buenas obras en la parroquia y fuera de la parroquia para la gloria de Dios. Tengan un bendito Día de Todos los Santos este viernes.
