THE PASSIONTIDE
The Fifth Sunday of Lent is the beginning of the Passiontide. This is the period when our prep-aration for Holy Week becomes intense. The readings for all the Masses of these two weeks speaks about the coming passion and death of Jesus. The veiling of the images also begins this week, so the attention of our devotion is focused to the Suffering Lord. The Passiontide is a re-minder of Jesus’ love for us. Instead us being crucified, He was crucified for our salvation. The last two weeks before Holy Week will help us understand Jesus’ mission. We can only un-derstand this by attending the daily Mass because the Bible readings each day speaks about the preparation of Jesus going to Calvary. Let our devotions these coming days become more seri-ous and do it by heart. The practice of prayers, fasting and almsgiving continues. Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through His own blood. Therefore let us go to Him outside the camp and bear the reproach He endured. – Hebrews 13:12-13
