53rd WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

Dear Brothers and Sisters, it is my great hopethat, during the course of this ExtraordinaryJubilee of Mercy, all the baptized may experiencethe joy of belonging to the Church and rediscover

that the Christian vocation, just like every particular vocation, isborn from within the People of God and is a gift of divine mercy. The Church is the house of mercy, and it is the "soil" wherevocations take root, mature and bear fruit. For this reason, onthe occasion of the 53rd World Day of Prayer for Vocations, Iinvite all of you to reflect upon the apostolic community and togive thanks for the role of the community in each person'svocational journey.

To read the entire letter from Pope Francis go to:

May we have thecourage to give our lives in loving service through married life, single life consecrated life and ordained life. Inspire men andwomen to respond generously and embrace the gift of areligious vocation. We unite our prayers with the whole Church, with the communion of saints, with Jesus and Spirit to praiseand thanksgiving now and forever. Amen.

LITURGY CORNERThis weekend we begin the fourth week of theEaster Season. This Sunday traditionally known as“Good Shepherd Sunday” , “National Appreciation forPastors” and “World Day of Prayer for Vocations”

Jesus is our Good Shepherd; we are His sheep, the flock heguides. If we truly believe that Jesus is our shepherd, we thenare to follow only his voice in our lives. But, there are manyother voices in our world that we are tempted to follow. Theseare the voices of greed, power, control, fear, selfishness, insensitivity, gossip, basically all unchristian ways. Sometimeswe have to work very hard to keep these loud voices in checkand not be driven to their tempting invitations. We canstrengthen our commitment to follow the call of Jesus in ourlives by allowing the Holy Spirit to work in and through us. Taking time each day to hear the Lord’s voice will allow us to bemore open to His will in our lives. In our daily prayer let us notdo all the talking, let us also listen to Jesus speaking to us. It isthen that we follow the voice of our Good Shepherd. May youall continue to experience a most blessed Easter season! Lisa

FAITH AT HOMEChildren who are less anxious and more confidentoften have not been constantly exposed toconversations and current events that they are not

yet ready for. As adults we constantly deal with issues at work, our health, or with relationships, but our children do not needto know about all the struggles we go thru in adulthood. Especially with everything that has been going on this pastweek, they do not always need an in-depth knowledge oftragedies on the news. In “Simplicity Parenting”, author KimJohn Payne said, “Despite their questions and curiosity, children need boundaries to feel secure and free. They need toknow and to be reminded that some things are for adults todiscuss; they are not for children to hear or to comment on”. Healso went on to say, “Children need to see your self-restraint,your confidence in meeting your own world. With security andfreedom they can begin to find their own inner voice”. Paynealso explains that this is not to say that the child’s world neverintersects with the parents’ - sometimes children absolutelyneed to know about a serious issue. But he cautions againstsharing too much with children. “Sharing suggests an equal andmutual exchange, one that is impossible for a child to offer andunfair for an adult to expect”. Enjoy your week! JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCYSmell like sheep. This is what Pope Francis says:Shepherd should smell like the sheep theyshepherd. This is not a charge just to bishops andpriests. It is told to all of us, too. All of us shepherdin little and big ways: in the children we bear andraise, in the students we teach, in the workers weguide, in the customers we serve, in the membersof OLM parish family. To smell like sheep, we must

be unafraid, for we are part of the one protected flock we are allin this together (Jew and Gentile - reread Acts 13:14, 43-52).Sunday makes us one Jesus makes us one.

• Make a list: who do I shepherd?• How can I do this with greater love and care?
