Haitis Future
Seton funds provide each of the 180 pre-school students one hot meal per day at school. We also provide support for tuition, school supplies, uniforms and teacher salaries.
Haitis Poverty
The unemployment rate is close to 85%. Less than 10% of the women have a trade or profession.
80% of Haitis people live in poverty, 54% live in abject poverty; Haitians earn, on average, $460 per year
Impact of Poverty on Children
More than 10% of children die of malnutrition or infectious disease before the age of five.
Infant mortality rate is 72 per 1000 births.
Only one in four children attends school due to poverty and lack of schools. The illiteracy rate is 56%.
Haiti has the highest percentage of orphansin the Western Hemisphere due to AIDS and violence.

Establish a supportive relationship between parishioners of both parishes
Educate the children and adults to break the cycle of poverty
Feed the children
Support training of lay catechists who lead worship at outlying chapels
Haiti OutreachIs Mainly About the Children
Providing Haitian children with a quality
education is
... the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.
Help Make a Difference in Their Lives
Setons Impact Is Significant
Education is Major Focus
The collapsing structure on the right was the school in
one of the remote areas. The Surlis family funded a new
building.
Setons ongoing commitments: Food: Many children come to school hungry. Often the
only meal they receive for the day will be the one at school. We feed 180 children a day.
Teacher Salaries: Quality teachers are crucial to breaking the cycle of illiteracy; we supplement teacher salaries to improve quality.
Student Tuition: For the ten-month school year, the cost for each child is $100; we supplement tuition.
School Uniforms: Children are required to wear uniforms to school; we help buy uniforms.
Construction: Presently, a small school is being built at an outlying chapel.
Church Property: We provide funds to help maintain and improve the worship and school facilities and property.
Medical Supplies: Some of the funds are used to help the desperately poor with much needed medical supplies.
