Stewardship Reflection

“If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last

of all and the servant of all.” (MARK 9:35)

Jesus teaches us that we are called to serve one an-

other. Sacrifice is not a word that many people like

to hear. We think it means that we must give up

something that we want. However, the literal mean-

ing of sacrifice is “to make holy,” from the words

“sacer” = sacred and “facere” = to make. In other

words, we make our lives holy by sharing our gifts in

the service of God.

We have an obligation to share with others, that

which God has given us. Share your time, and tal-

ents. Men and women can become involved in the

life of our Parish by becoming an Altar Server,

Catechist, Choir Member, Lector, and/or Ush-

er. By taking an active role in the liturgical life, and

service of the Parish, you can have a wonderful ex-

perience. Feel free to fill out the form on the bottom

of this page, and drop it in the collection basket or

call the rectory.

Today is National Grandparents Day!

The impetus for a National

Grandparents Day originated

with Marian McQuade, a

housewife in Fayette County,

West Virginia. Her primary

motivation was to champion

the cause of lonely elderly in

nursing homes. She also

hoped to persuade grandchil-

dren to tap the wisdom and

heritage their grandparents could provide. In 1978,

President Jimmy Carter, proclaimed that National

Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year

on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

Blessing of the Animals

In honor of the kind and gentle saint,

St. Francis of Assisi, all creatures

great and small are invited to be

blessed Saturday, October 3 at 2

p.m. in the Church parking lot.
