“Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance” (John 20:1)

Today's Gospel narrate how the mystery we celebrate happened. It says; early on the first day of the week at early dawn, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance... Mary Magdalene encountered someone she assumes is the gardener but who turns out to be Jesus.

This misrecognition is not accidental but pedagogical. Easter is a time of encounter with the resurrected Jesus. Christians will not find their Lord until and where he wishes to be found. Jesus reveals himself under contrary appearance until faith is expressed. This is the experience we have in the Holy Eucharist. He is made known in the breaking of the bread.

The Easter experience we all want to have is the similar extended conversation between Jesus and Mary Magdalene and like the conversation on the road to Emmaus. At the empty tomb, Mary Magdalene mistakenly thinks that Jesus is a gardener (John 20:14). The story of the walk to Emmaus is no different (Luke 24:13-35). They eventually recognized him at the breaking of bread. He continues to appear under misrecognition and invites us to dialogue and to recognize him.

Today, we celebrate that Grand Easter day... Christ the Lord is Risen...indeed...Alleluia. May his resurrection continue to be a moment for on-going encounters with Him and with each other. Happy Easter Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. James Owolagba Pastor.

Congratulations to our newly baptised
