The families of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School are grateful for the loving support of our Pastor and the members of our parish. It is clear from my conver- sations with other school principals in the Diocese that the closeness we enjoy at OLR is special and not experienced by many parish-school communities. Much of this is due to Fr. Longeneckers encouragement and involvement in our school. Over the last year, we have witnessed tremendous growth in the school as our enrollment has increased from 135 to 215 students. This makes us the fastest growing school in the Charleston Diocese! Anyone attending Sunday morning Mass has seen that the parish is itself also experiencing the rejuvenating influ- ence of many new, faithful families Our Lord is truly blessing Our Lady of the Rosary Church and School in equal portion! I write today to request that you tithe generously to the parish in the coming year. While Fr. Longenecker will speak to the good works accomplished in the parish with your help, much good also comes to the students at the school. Consider just a few ways the parish supports OLR school: Shared Facilities: Our students attend Mass weekly and make excellent use of the parishs Guadalupe Hall and cafeteria, to say nothing of the green spaces which beautify both campuses. The New Church: The new church educates and inspires our children in the riches of traditional Catholic art and architecture. Shared Salaries: The church helps fund staff positions (such as the Facilities Manager and Music Director) that support the operation of both the parish and the school. Scholarship Programs: Through direct donations and the annual parish subsi- dy, the church makes Catholic education affordable for many scholarship stu- dents within the school. Most importantly, our school is worthy of your support. It is an unfortunate fact that many Catholic schools have contented themselves with offering a tired brand of education that may be dubbed public school plus prayers. This model, which seeks to accommodate the Faith to the secular world, to find common ground, is a proven failure. We reject it outright. Our Lady of the Rosary School embraces a countercultural, classical model of education marked by truth, beauty, and goodness. We honor family life. We extol virtue. We esteem the saints of God. We battle to win the hearts and souls of our children for Christ! Little good is accomplished without sacrifice. Along with Fr. Longenecker, I invite you to live sacrificially and give sacrificially. I assure you, your parish school will do our best to multiply and magnify your gift on behalf of the families we serve. In Christs Love, Tommy Curtin Headmaster

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

This week’s Pastor’s Letter is from our School Headmaster, Tommy Curtin.

The families of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School are grateful for the loving support of our Pastor and the members of our parish. It is clear from my conver-sations with other school principals in the Diocese that the closeness we enjoy at OLR is special and not experienced by many parish-school communities. Much of this is due to Fr. Longenecker’s encouragement and involvement in our school.

Over the last year, we have witnessed tremendous growth in the school as our enrollment has increased from 135 to 215 students. This makes us the fastest growing school in the Charleston Diocese! Anyone attending Sunday morning Mass has seen that the parish is itself also experiencing the rejuvenating influ-ence of many new, faithful families Our Lord is truly blessing Our Lady of the Rosary Church and School in equal portion!

I write today to request that you tithe generously to the parish in the coming year. While Fr. Longenecker will speak to the good works accomplished in the parish with your help, much good also comes to the students at the school. Consider just a few ways the parish supports OLR school:

Shared Facilities: Our students attend Mass weekly and make excellent use of the parish’s Guadalupe Hall and cafeteria, to say nothing of the green spaces which beautify both campuses.

The New Church: The new church educates and inspires our children in the riches of traditional Catholic art and architecture.

Shared Salaries: The church helps fund staff positions (such as the Facilities Manager and Music Director) that support the operation of both the parish and the school.

Scholarship Programs: Through direct donations and the annual parish subsi-dy, the church makes Catholic education affordable for many scholarship stu-dents within the school.

Most importantly, our school is worthy of your support. It is an unfortunate fact that many Catholic schools have contented themselves with offering a tired brand of education that may be dubbed “public school plus prayers.” This model, which seeks to accommodate the Faith to the secular world, to find common ground, is a proven failure.

In Christ’s Love,

Tommy Curtin Headmaster

Third Sunday Brunch

OLR would like to provide a light brunch (coffee and donuts, etc.) following the 10:30 am Mass on the third Sunday of each month.

Please join us in Guadalupe Hall for a short time of fellowship this Sunday, Oct. 17. There will be a basket provided for donations to offset the cost of supplies.

Your Respect Life Committee reminds parish-ioners that their rosaries count. During our 40 Days for Life Fall Campaign, please fill out a blue slip found in the Narthex and each week deposit your rosary count into our Rosary Count box. The Rosary Poster will chart our goal of 1,000 rosaries by October 31.

On Monday, Nov. 1 from 12:30-2:00, St. Martha’s Book Club will be discuss-ing “Dutch Girl-Audrey Hepburn and WWII” by Robert Matzen. We will not meet in December, but on Monday, Jan 10, we will be discuss-

ing “Lady Clementine” by Marie Benedict.

In keeping with diocesan guidelines, Our Lady of the Rosary implements a two-year program to pre-pare for Confirmation. The first year of the program consists in participation in religion classes at Our Lady of the Rosary School, St. Joseph’s Catholic School, or Sunday religious education classes for those in public schools. In addition to the same requirements as the first year, Confirmation candi-dates attend a series of additional classes and activities.

Religious Education classes for 7th and 8th graders will begin on Sunday, October 24. The classes will be held each Sunday from 9:00-10:00 am in the OLR Upper School which is on the opposite side of Guadalupe Hall. These classes will be taking the place of the MS youth group. 40 DAYS FOR LIFE

Your Rosaries Count! Prayer moves mountains and we are storming heaven to defeat abortion as there are now resources to help moms keep their babies, to provide follow-up care after the baby is born, and the option of choosing a loving couple for adoption! In the Narthex, you will see that we are tracking all rosar-ies said during this 40 Days for Life Fall Campaign. Please draw a blank blue slip from the blue basket each week. At the end of the week, count the rosaries you have said and write the num-ber on your slip’s blank. Place your “count” slip in the designed box (in the Nar-thex) and get a new blue slip for your next week’s count.

SEVEN SISTERS APOSTOLATE

is an apostolate of prayer started last year at OLR, is looking for 5 or 6 more women to make a weekly prayer com-mitment for Fr. Longenecker and Fr. Richard. This ministry involves one woman praying one holy hour on her assigned or predetermined day of the

week. This is done every week for a one year commit-ment. It can be done at home or in any nearby Catholic Church, and does not need to be in an adoration chapel. It is a beautiful ministry praying for our parish priests especially during these uncertain times. If you are interested, please read the link HERE to answer specific questions regarding the Apostolate which is in par-ishes all over the world, in-cluding two other upstate par-ishes.

The Veritas Catholic Information Center is an exciting project being planned for down-town Greenville by a group of laity from all Greenville parishes. The National Catholic Register ran a great article HERE, explaining the project, which was written by Kathy Schiffer, Catholic blogger and wife of our own Deacon Jerry Schiffer. Moving forward, there will be opportunities to support this powerful evangelization tool in various ways. An important step in its success will be to make all Greenville Catholics aware that it's happening and sign up to support this project financially and as a volunteer.

MOTHER TERESA HOUSE

"Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere you go." Mother Teresa

We are asked to give our time, talent and treasure. Yes, we need volunteers for Mother Teresa House. Yes, we need your prayers. Yes, we need direct financial support to not only sustain what we do, but to expand it. This comes from hearts full of love. Mother Teresa’s quote is a call to love first and foremost. You know people who have an inner joy and peace that radiates from them like Mother Teresa, and it is infectious when you are around them. It is what we are all called to be.

All that we have and all that we are comes from God and we are called to offer it back to Him as a sacri-fice of love. It is in that total surrender that we find that joy and peace. Christ’s light shines through us to everyone we meet and everywhere we go.
