Heidi & Mission Zambia 2018! On May 26th myself (Heidi Doris), along with 7 other 5th year Rockford Manor students and 3 teachers travelled to Zambia to volunteer. We were based in Kaoma for 2 weeks. During the first week we were working in Primary schools, teaching the children English, Maths, Art and Music. Part of the funds that we raised went towards buying tables, chairs and basic supplies, such as paper, pens, pencils, art supplies and books for the schools. All of the school children and teachers were very appreciative of all of these donations. During the second week of our stay in Kaoma, we worked in a secondary school, teaching the students English and Music. During our week working in the secondary school we formed many friendships with the students. It was a cultural exchange for the both of us. We learned many things from the Zambian students, one of the main things being sustainability and learning to live with such basic provisions. One of the Rockford manor teachers was sponsored with 20 Ukuleles, which was great for ceol agus craic. We taught 20 of the Zambian secondary school students how to play the ukulele and then left the ukuleles over there along with music sheets for them to proceed further In learning how to play the instrument. Overall Zambia was a great and humble experience. It was so great to see the funds that we raised from Sallynoggin Parish with the kind help of Fr. Padraig, being spent in areas where it is much needed. Go raibh mile maith agat to Fr. Padraig and Sallynoggin Parish. From Heidi Doris and the Rockford Manor mission Zambia 2018 students and teachers.

I overheard two people the other day and one of them described someone who came up asking for directions as ‘some ran-domer’. There’s a relative-ly new word to describe someone as a stranger, or someone we don’t know. We must therefore all be a ‘randomer’ tao someone. I walk around and people pass me by day in and day out and most of them don’t know me from Adam. To the masses I must be just some randomer passing

by. Unless you’re a rock star or a Hollywood actor or the Pope, could you just be some randomer? ‘Who was he?’ ‘Oh I don’t know, just some randomer.’ It’s a cold expression.

To Jesus Christ we are no ‘randomer’. Jesus knows the very hairs on our head. The Holy Father, Pope Francis, in a homi-ly during Mass said that Jesus is primarily a pas-

tor to us. That means He shepherds us and takes care of us ...The Pope de-scribes God as someone who seeks us out: “God is always there in front of us … When we arrive, He’s there. When we look for Him, He has already been looking for us …”This is the description of a personal God who wants us to be part of his family, who wants to live in our hearts. He is interested in our hopes and dreams and our fears. He loves us, and he loves those we love.

Extract from Tired of All the Bad News by Fr Bryan Shortall (www.columbabooks.com)

Quote of the weekTo love is to give your self freely. Yet, to give your self – to another person, to an endeavor, to God – you must first possess yourself.– Matthew Kelly

Challenge: Make a concentrated effort today to gain true possession of yourself. Ask for God’s help and use Jesus’ life as an example.
