Online Giving is a convenient way to give to your church. Remember to use Online Giving for recurring gifts to the church, or send a one-time gift if you are unable to attend Mass. You can access Online Giving from our website by selecting “Giving”, then “Help Us Grow”. Thank you!

Special Collection – Priest Retirement Fund

Next weekend all parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will be asked to give generously to support the Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan Priests. At each Mass on June 11th and 12th , a second collection will be taken to benefit this important program. Currently, the fund provides for more than 100 priests who are retired. Over the next ten years, that number is expected to increase significantly. With minimal compensation, and in many cases, no pension, these men often retire with nothing to fall back upon. Your contributions can change that. The Priest Retirement Fund offers us a way to give back to our Catholic priests who have served us so faithfully. Your contribution will help archdiocesan priests live modestly and peacefully in retirement. Help us offer thanks for their years of devotion to God, and faithful service to our parish communities.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR GIVING

Archdiocese of Los Angeles 2016 Annual Catholic Appeal

“Together in Mission” Each one of us is called upon to share the gifts that God has blessed us with. In answer-ing the call we keep His message of faith and love alive to those who most need it. Your gift enables us to provide essential resources and ministries that enrich parish life, strength-en families, advance Church leadership and inspire and educate future generations of our faith. Through your generosity we have reached over half of our goal-those funds will keep un-derfunded parishes and schools open and serving the less fortunate. What a great act of mercy! Parish Progress Report as of May 6th:

Holy Redeemer-St James Parish Goal: $111,400 Amount paid to date: $67,245 If you have not made your 2016 pledge you can still do so on the TIM website

Dear Friends in Christ,

With the celebration of our Parish First Communions this weekend we bring the great “Easter Sacraments of Initiation” to a conclusion! Due to the Feast of Corpus Christi falling on Memorial Day Weekend, we are a week late, but it has been a wonderful 10 weeks of grace. Our Adults, our Teens, our young sisters and brothers are a living example of God’s continuing call to grow in “wisdom, age and grace”. Please keep them in your heart with a smile and a prayer and let God renew you. Congratulations to all our First Communicants and their families!

I want to express my gratitude to all who assisted in making Fr. Marc’s 25th Anniversary such a beau-tiful gathering, thank you! I know it was a labor of love, but your graciousness in sacrificing a por-tion of your own Memorial Day Weekend was very kind.

And this Sunday, at our 5:30 Mass, we will celebrate a Baccalaureate Mass for our Jr. High, High School and College Graduates. The tradition of celebrating these life moments is deeply rooted in our Catholic faith because it has its origin in prayers at the university for moving “to the next step”; and the whole university system began as an extension of the Church and her desire to share knowledge. Pray that modern day education would honor its origins even as we honor these young women and men taking “their next step”.

This Tuesday our Parish Catholic School will graduate our 8th Graders and send them off to High School. Well done boys and girls. It is always my prayer that what you received first and foremost in your time at St. James Holy Redeemer is a foundation in faith that you will continue to build on as you move forward. Jesus Christ is the only firm foundation granting stability in the midst of the many changes and challenges to come, remember that! We look forward to welcoming you into your Youth Ministry and Confirmation Programs. We look forward to the service you offer as you mature in your Christian life. Congratulations!

As vacations begin for many please remember to stay close to Christ in the Eucharist; don’t miss Mass! As always, I wish you peace.

- Fr. Ed

CHILDREN FAMILIES

Pool safety is about more than swimming Swimming is a fun way to have some fun and beat the heat during the summer. Parents should teach their children about swimming safety, including how to identify and handle uncomfortable situations. Although you may be watching closely to make sure your kids are safe in the water, don’t forget about when they’re walking around, sitting out by the pool, using the restrooms or out of sight. Teach your children what to do when they feel uncomfortable at the pool, and let them know it is okay to walk away and find a parent or trusted adult at any time. For more information and a copy of the article called “Know the Rules…Summer Safety Tips to Teach Chil-dren” from the National Center for Missing and Exploited, email: [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.
