Our parish family weekly news and notes for our Saint Mary community Twenty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time-August 28, 2016 Dear Friends, It’s hard to believe that we’re at the final weekend of August. It seems as if summer just began and now here it is really winding down. For myself, class began back on the 17th of August so it has seemed over for a little while now. Of course, just because summer is drawing to a close doesn’t mean there aren’t hot days ahead for us! So next week we will celebrate Labor Day and begin the official “school” year in the parishes. With that, Fr. Sam and I will have an official schedule now for daily Masses at both parishes. St. Pius will continue to have 7am Mass with the possibility of a communion service once a week and St. Mary’s will continue at Noon. Both of us will alternate the schedule daily with some exceptions to the schedule. Twice a month St. Pius X School has mass with their community at 8:15. On those two Tuesday’s there will be NO 7am Mass but will rather shift to 8:15. At St. Mary’s it has also been the custom that when there is a funeral in the morning there is NO Noon Mass. That too will continue. The plan is to have one Mass a day at each place, of course with the exception when one of us is on vacation or are off or when we have Holy Day Masses. When we get closer to the winter season we’ll talk about the snow schedule for daily Masses. I think it’s important to keep in mind that daily Mass is a privilege and not a necessity. It is a daily devotional and so at times the schedule needs to be flexible. Of course, in some situations we don’t always know what’s going to happen and so we all need to be flexible with the schedules. There is, of course, no way to predict emergencies or death! Hopefully after a few months we’ll get into a regular routine when it comes to the daily Mass schedule. All that being said, for now the Sunday schedule will remain. That does not mean that it won’t change down the road. I needed a little break from meetings this summer so will not convene my group consisting of parishioners from both parishes until September. That discussion will begin at that time. Variables change over time and the only way it works is if we can be as pro- active as possible. This idea of a pastorate in this way is new so it will take some getting used to for everyone. Once I have a chance to begin meeting with that group I will certainly keep you posted and hopefully in the Fall plan another opportunity for both parishes to come together for fellowship and discussion. Our parish family weekly news and notes for our Saint Mary community

Twenty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time-August 28, 2016

Dear Friends,

It’s hard to believe that we’re at the final weekend of August. It seems as if

summer just began and now here it is really winding down. For myself, class

began back on the 17th of August so it has seemed over for a little while now.

Of course, just because summer is drawing to a close doesn’t mean there aren’t

hot days ahead for us!

So next week we will celebrate Labor Day and begin the official “school” year

in the parishes. With that, Fr. Sam and I will have an official schedule now for

daily Masses at both parishes. St. Pius will continue to have 7am Mass with

the possibility of a communion service once a week and St. Mary’s will

continue at Noon. Both of us will alternate the schedule daily with some

exceptions to the schedule. Twice a month St. Pius X School has mass with

their community at 8:15. On those two Tuesday’s there will be NO 7am Mass

but will rather shift to 8:15. At St. Mary’s it has also been the custom that

when there is a funeral in the morning there is NO Noon Mass. That too will

continue. The plan is to have one Mass a day at each place, of course with the

exception when one of us is on vacation or are off or when we have Holy Day

Masses. When we get closer to the winter season we’ll talk about the snow

schedule for daily Masses.

I think it’s important to keep in mind that daily Mass is a privilege and not a

necessity. It is a daily devotional and so at times the schedule needs to be

flexible. Of course, in some situations we don’t always know what’s going to

happen and so we all need to be flexible with the schedules. There is, of

course, no way to predict emergencies or death! Hopefully after a few months

we’ll get into a regular routine when it comes to the daily Mass schedule.

All that being said, for now the Sunday schedule will remain. That does not

mean that it won’t change down the road. I needed a little break from

meetings this summer so will not convene my group consisting of parishioners

from both parishes until September. That discussion will begin at that time.

Variables change over time and the only way it works is if we can be as pro-

active as possible. This idea of a pastorate in this way is new so it will take

some getting used to for everyone.

Once I have a chance to begin meeting with that group I will certainly keep

you posted and hopefully in the Fall plan another opportunity for both parishes

to come together for fellowship and discussion.

Peace,

Father Marty
