How do you distil the learning from 100 years of sterling business service into a single word? You can’t, however, if one thread runs through all those years it is the importance of forging strong, ongoing relationships with our clients.

AEG Ogden is a Brisbane-based operation that now manages sports stadiums, convention and exhibition centres, concert arenas and live theatres worldwide, employing thousands.

Martin Roller MD, Brisbane BMW

Since 1999, Martin and his team have expanded from one dealership to three, adding Westside BMW and Lamborghini Brisbane. It’s a great ‘hands on’ success story in a tough retail environment and BDO has been by their side since the beginning.

As Martin says, “BDO was always there to help us. I had a true sense from early on that our success was their success. To this day, they’re in this business at the highest possible level”.

BDO supports Brisbane BMW in a whole range of ways from taxation and daily operational matters, to corporate structuring and governance, to long-term strategic thinking and planning.

Scott Hutchinson Chairman, Hutchinson Builders

Robin Levison CEO, Industrea Limited

In the early days super successful Queensland engineering/mining supply firm, Industrea Limited were really struggling. “We needed a financial services firm who would really work with us, who understood how much more difficult it can be for small business,” says Robin Levison. That firm was, and still is, BDO.

One reason is the quality of our partners and the people we employ. Robin calls them “down to earth, intelligent, decent people. They were really helpful and gave us good advice to meet our regulatory obligations when we really needed it”.

Others maintain it’s the BDO range of services - BDO’s primary responsibilities with Industrea are audit and taxation, but we also add value with expert corporate advisory, business strategy, international expansion and industry-specific services.

Fiona Berkin MD, Morris Corporation

Morris is Australia’s largest privately owned provider of ‘Industrial Hospitality’, principally servicing remote mining sites all over Australia and doing it all ‘yesterday’.

At BDO we’ve played a key role in the Morris Corporation success story since 2010. In Fiona’s words we share the crucial Morris attribute of “delivering expert, timely and proactive responses at competitive prices”.

We’ve helped keep Morris booming by organising a large private equity injection and new banking arrangements, as well as adding value on IT, corporate advisory, taxation, audit and HR matters.

Mike Murphy CEO, QT Mutual

QT Mutual has a great story to tell. Yet it’s a story with small beginnings. In 1975 when Mike began work as a junior accountant with the then Queensland Teachers Credit Union, the organisation had few financial products and a limited membership. Today, QT Mutual boasts over 75,000 customers and an asset base of $1.3 billion.

At BDO we’ve played an integral part in this success story for more than 30 years. Mike describes the BDO culture as “all about providing a professional service, a telling blend of the technical and commercial, at realistic cost”.

We have long provided high end audit services and taxation advice to QT Mutual, and added value on matters as varied as the bank’s risk management system through to its business valuation.

Peter Maher CEO, St Vincent de Paul Society Qld

Peter Maher ultimately counts his success in lives lost and regained. Meeting that aim means he oversees more than 350 full time staff, over 8,000 members and volunteers, and manages assets in excess of $84 million with annual income of $57 million including sales derived from more than 120 individual Vinnies shops.

“Since engaging BDO as our auditors, our financial reporting has gone from one page and two pie charts, to comprehensively meeting Australia’s toughest accounting and reporting standards. This improved governance, transparency and accountability has helped grow our government funding from 4% to 25% of annual revenue,” says Peter.
