Issue 17 Term 2 Week 6 5 June 2019
Good afternoon Parents, Carers and Friends of Greenwich Public School. This week we were treated to a visit by the Police Band. This was organised by the Band Committee and formed part of the program offered to our students. It was a wonderful opportunity for our school to hear such a fabulous band and have the opportunity to be inspired by such wonderful musicians.

This will allow our teachers to attend a professional learning opportunity on Collaborative Teaching Practice. If you have any questions about the change, please contact the school office. 2020 Enrolments If you have a student who is due to start school next year or know of someone who has a child ready to start school please encourage them to come and put their child’s name down for enrolment. Thank you to those who have already made contact with us. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if there are any questions about the enrolment of your child that you wish to discuss. Building Update

2019 Rock School Band Intensive
On Sunday the 19th of May, the Training and Concert Bands took part in an all-day event of fun and learning. We
practiced as a band and had tutoring sessions with amazing musicians. At the end of the day we gave an amazing
concert for all our family and friends to show how much we have improved.
On behalf of all the band members I would like to say a very special thank you to the band committee for organising
an epic event. Thanks to Ray Cassar and Tony Grimm for giving up their time to help us improve. Also a big thank
to the excellent musicians who helped us enhance our skills in music. Thanks so much to everyone for dressing up
for the theme, rock.

BAND AND STRINGS EXCURSION TO THE SYDNEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
ELEMENTS OF ELEPHANTS
The Concert and Training Bands, together with the Strings Ensemble, went to a special primary schools performance
of the SSO. Called “Elements of Elephants”, much of the music performed represented the sounds or movements
of animals.
The first piece, “Baby Elephant Walk” by Henry Mancini, was familiar as the Concert Band had played it last year at
the Honour Assembly!
A presenter took the children through the themes and sounds of the music and the instruments performing, asking
lots of questions. She also introduced some less common instruments such as the tuba, harp and bassoon.
