September is Senior Center Month

September is Senior Center month. This year’s theme is Senior Centers: Masters of Aging. The Palatine Township Senior Center is joining senior centers across the country to celebrate the many ways senior centers lead their communities and inspire individuals to master this phase of life. Individuals search to understand their own needs amidst competing demands and responsibilities. At their senior center, they find programs and resources that inspire them to make the most of their time.

Invest in the community - Give to PTSCC

Please remember PTSCC in your charitable contributions. You’ll be helping us provide programs and services that support the independence and well-being of the older adults of the Palatine Township area and getting a tax break, all at the same time. Gifts of cash, stock, real estate, life insurance or life income are welcome and greatly appreciated. You can choose to support our current activities, or plan for the future by designating the gift for our endowment. You can also choose to include us in your estate plan as well. Thank you for your support!

Mark your calendars for PTSCC’s eighteenth annual Caring Hearts Gala, Saturday, February 17, 2018, Cotillion Banquets, 360 South Creekside, Palatine. PTSCC Board members Marla Shapiro-Gillen and Maryann Duffy are chairing this evening of dinner, dancing, raffles, plus live and silent auctions. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Contact Carol Reagan at 847.991.1112 or [email protected] for information.

Over 150 people enjoyed food and beverages from Rocco Vino’s Twin Lakes on Thursday, June 8th, 2017 for our 5th annual summer fundraiser, “Thirsty Thursday”, benefitting the Palatine Township Senior Center. Guests enjoyed a beautiful evening with clear skies under the tent and on the deck at Salt Creek Park District – Twin Lakes in Palatine. Donelda Danz, PTSCC Board Chair and Diane Iser, PTSCC 1st Vice Chair and Thirsty Thursday Committee Chair welcomed guests and acknowledged the sponsors for the evening. There were thirty-three fabulous raffle baskets, three silent auction items, and many excited winners who were very appreciative of winning fabulous items while supporting a great organization. The most popular items included several liquor baskets, stained glass artwork, and Chicago White Sox tickets. Thank you to our community-minded donors who helped us raise nearly $8,500 for the programs and services offered at the Senior Center. Committee Chair, Diane Iser, said, “The seniors who utilize the Palatine Senior Center are thirsty also! They are thirsty for self-fulfilling lives, they are thirsty for access to good nutrition, and they are thirsty for social connection. Your generous support of these efforts makes them a reality. I am thrilled with the success of the event. All of the hard work of the committee paid off in seeing increased funds raised that will directly impact the lives of our seniors. My gratitude goes to all of the Thirsty Thursday Committee members and PTSCC staff.”

Rembert “Rem” Stokes is a long-time supporter of the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council (PTSCC). Rem was a member of the PTSCC Board of Directors, serving as Chair from 2000 to 2002. During his tenure as Chair, Rem proposed and implemented the Caring Hearts Gala and Corporate Membership Program. The PTSCC Endowment, now called The Stokes Fund in his honor, was established with a generous donation from Rem and his wife Lee. In the time since their inception through the end of Fiscal Year 2017 (2-28-17), the Gala, the Corporate Membership Program and The Stokes Fund have raised over $1.6 million dollars to support the programs and services of PTSCC. Rem’s ideas, energy and enthusiasm brought PTSCC to a higher level, allowing us to serve more clients and lay a foundation for the future. His philosophy can be summed up, in his words, as “The world is a far better place where generosity

exists...Share the fullness of your lives with others.”

Thank you, Rem, for your dedication, your generosity and your ideas. You have made PTSCC a

stronger organization, and the community better because of them.
