2012 W E E K L Y N E W S L E T T E R FEBRUARY 6TH

We caught up with Katherine Minola, Master Petruchio’s new wife and discussed her new life with her as she confirms the rumors about her taming.

Interviewer: Good day! How do you do?

Katherine: Fabulous!

Interviewer: How’s it going with Petruchio? We’ve heard that you two have started getting along! Is that true?

Katherine: Why yes. Our relationship is has taken an extraordinary turn.

Interviewer: There are rumors that you have been tamed, are those true?

Katherine: Yes they are. It’s quite astonishing how it happened.

Interviewer: And this was thanks to Petruchio?

Katherine: Yes it was.

Interviewer: And how did he accomplish this?

Katherine: I did not approve of the ways he tamed me but I must respect his ways. He starved me and would not let me sleep.

Interviewer: That is quite astonishing. And you did not criticize him about it? No complains?

Katherine: I did not.

Interviewer: What was your Master Baptista’s reaction?

Katherine: Father was confounded when I had been tamed.

Interviewer: And what is your view on husbands now?

Katherine: I believe, “Thy husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper, Thy head, thy sovereign, one that cares for thee, And for thy maintenance commits his body, To painful labor both by sea and land, To watch the night in storms, the day in cold, Whilst thou liest warm at home, secure and safe, And craves no other tribute at thy hands.” (Act 5, Scene 2)

Interviewer: Well said Madam Katherine. It was wonderful to have you today.

Katherine: Thank you for having me.

SHREW NO MORE!

Shrewdly Weds This week’s wedding story begins with the couple of Petruchio and Katherine. You will never believe the crash that these two went through! They don’t need wedding crashers to crash their wedding, they’ll do it themselves. Katherine never wanted to marry, she was fine being alone but when Petruchio learns her story, he is determined to meet her. He did not want to marry her because of her horrifically rude behavior, he just wants her father’s money. Petruchio exclaims his “love” for Katherine and insists on their marriage. He arrives dressed in inappropriate clothing for his wedding on a sickening, practically dead horse. Everyone works together to persuade him to change his appearance but he insists on marrying as is. It might

Shrewdlybe an understatement saying that Pertruchio is a little over confident. One of Pretruchio’s servants reports, “When the priest should ask if Katherine should be his wife, ‘Ay, by gogs wouns!’ quoth he, and swore so loud that, all amazed, the priest let fall the book, and as he stooped again to take it up, the mad-brained bridegroom took him such a cuff that down fell priest and book, and book and priest. ‘Now take them up,’ quoth he, ‘if any list.’” Petruchio announces at their wedding reception, “Gentlemen and friends, I thank you for you. I know you think to dine with me today and have prepared great store of wedding cheer, but so it is, my haste doth call me hence, and therefore here I mean to take my leave.” Katherine b e g s h i m t o s t a y b u t

instead, he drags her along with him leaving all their guests to celebrate their marriage while they travel to Petruchio’s house. Petruchio wanted to “tame” Katherine. His method was to become more of a shrew than she. Anything anyone wants from him he does the opposite. He doesn’t change c lothes, he leaves his wedding early, and he doesn’t help Katherine up when she falls of his horse in the mud on their journey to his house. Nevertheless, his taming efforts have proved successful!

FLASHES OF CRASHES

WEDDING DRESS DISASTER It’s true! It was raining when Katherine Minola slipped off her husband’s horse and into the mud. Since her husband, Pertruchio, rushed them out of their wedding, they had no time to change before they were on their way out the door. When she fell, he showed no effort to help her up or let her clean off. They continued on their way to his house with Katherine in her muddy wedding dress. Even there, at his own house, Petruchio showed absolutely shrew-like behavior.

Abusive Siblings ISSUE NINETY SIX

EXCLUSIVE

As child abuse is still a extensive

issue, there is yet another to be

concerned about. Stories of

sibling abuse have shown their

appearance more and more lately.

So far, the worse story yet has

been of Katherine and her

younger sister Bianca. Katherine, a

shrew, has shown loath ing

behavior towards her sister.

Believe it or not, she tied her

sister’s hands with a rope so she

could not escape her grasp. Bianca

pleads, “Good sister, wrong me

not nor wrong yourself, to make a

bondmaid and a slave of me. That I

disdain. But for these other goods

—unbind my hands, I’ll pull them

off myself, yea, all my raiment to

my petticoat, or what you will

command me will I do, so well I

know my duty to my elders.”

Bianca doesn’t like how she is

being treated by her sister but

promises to give her sister

anything she wants as long as she

does not turn her into her slave.

She just wants her hands untied.

This behavior isn’t new to

Katherine. She’s been rude and

nasty to everyone she’s meant but

to go to such lengths to cause her

d iscomfor t i s crue l . When

Katherine asks her sister which of

her suitors she wants to marry

a n d B i a n c a r e p l i e s w i t h

uncertainty, Katherine slaps her.

Bianca, is loved by everyone.

She’s beautiful and everyone loves

her to the point where they want

to marry her. Is it fair to say her

older sister might be jealous?

Maybe, but she shows no efforts

to change her shrewdly behavior.

As their conversation continues,

Katherine shows no desire to

release her sister. It isn’t until

their father comes in and is

appalled by the way Katherine has

treated her sister.

Parental Favoritism is becoming a

problem in countless households. One

household however, is all about

Parental Favoritism. Baptista Minola,

father of two, does prefer one

daughter than the other.

It has been reported to Padua Daily

that Baptista Minola prefers Bianca,

the youngest, over his oldest daughter

Katherine. This however, led to abuse.

Katherine Minola was reported to the

local police for verbal and physical

abuse to her sister. Is parental

favoritism to be blamed? Some say

it is, but some disagree.

In many households, the younger

children are more favored and even

more loved than the older children. Is

it because the parent is afraid of their

child growing up? That may be the

answer. We caught a few words of

Baptista and Katherine’s

conversation, “She is you

treasure, she must have a

husband, I must dance barefoot on

her wedding day, and, for your love

to her, lead apes in hell.”

Parental Favoritism should be

stopped. It does indeed lead to abuse

and hatred towards the more loved

sibling. It leads to sibling rivalry as

well.

Katherine Minola was seen striking

her younger sister for absolutely no

reason. That is of course what she

said. Parental Favoritism is the cause

of this act. Katherine despises Bianca

for being more loved by their father. It

may be the reason she shows insolent

and rude behavior. However, Baptista

doesn’t agree. He says it is

Katherine’s fault that her behavior is

so ill-mannered and he shouldn’t have

to live with it. So what is next for

parental favoritism?

How to Protect you daughtershow to protect your daughters. you can protect your daughters in many ways such as verbally or physically. you can verbally protect your daughters by screaming and swearing at the people who are trying to cause your daughters harm. you can physically protect your daughter by having a fist fight with the attacker or you can have a sword on you and fight the attacker (swords for half off), or you can do something called a double tap. a double tap is when you fist fight someone and then use your sword on them all the while your also verbally protecting you daughters. if none of these things work then you just need to move to a place a little less dangerous

to marry a shrew you simply need to tarry around the shrews house until she notices you and comes out to see what you’ve been doing around your house. you should say that your hurt and you need some help. if she takes you inside then your lucky and your chances

have opened up. you should always start with a compliment about her house or herself. if she smiles then your on good terms if she keeps a straight face that means you have no chance at all and you should find someone else.

Trickery 101, with Padua’s Most Wanted: Lucentio By Jacob Kazmi

Name: Lucentio

Age: 22

Known Aliases: Cambio

Hometown: Pisa, IT

Occupation: Student

Primary intention: Study at the University in Padua

Ends up: Getting married to the virtuous Bianca MInola, through a little trickery.

Sidekicks: Tranio, Biondello

WE SAT DOWN WITH THE FAMOUS LUCENTIO TO FIND OUT WHAT HIS INTENTIONS WERE AND HOW HE DID THEM.Jacob: How did you discover Bianca?

Lucentio:When I first arrived in Padua, to study, I overheard her talking with her father and shrewish sister. I knew when I first saw her I was in love.

J:Why did you feel the need to make her fall in love with you, as apposed to becoming a suitor.

L:When I saw the other suitors and their riches I knew I could probably compete, but thought that Bianca deserved something different than an arranged marriage.

J:What was your original Plan?

L:I thought my man, Tranio,

would pose for me and I would pretend to be a teacher, named Cambio, to actually get to talk to Bianca. We would then have someone pose as my father.

J:How did you propose your love for her?

L:I gave her a fake translation of a latin passage. She responded the same way

J:Did everything go as planned?

L:I would say it did. We ended up getting married, both families are happy and we had an amazing wedding.

J:Was there any confusion at the wedding?

L:When my real father arrived there was some explaining, but everyone was surprisingly okay with everything that happened. Me and Bianca were and still are in love.

J:Thank you for coming Mr. Lucentio.
