Padua is universally known as the city of St. Anthony, a portuguese monk . His church is the most important Basilica of the city, built in a variety of art styles.

The university of Padua is one of the oldest universities in the world, set up by students and teachers all together in 1222.

The Pedrocchi Café was built between 1831 and 1836; many students and professors of Padua university met there after lessons to talk about politics.

“La torre dell’orologio” (the clocktower) is located in “Piazza dei Signori”, one of the three most important squares in Padua. It was built in 1532 by architect Giovanni Falconetto.

“Il compianto di Cristo morto” is a particular of the Scrovegni Chapel; it is a fresco by Giotto (1267-1337).

“Palazzo della Ragione “ is the largest civil hall in the middle ages, with a characteristic curved roof. It was used as a court of law and for citizens’ assemblies. It was frescoed by artists of Giotto’s school, and it also boasts a wooden reproduction of the horse of the most famous equestrian monument of the Renaissance, “Il Gattamelata” by Donatello, still visible in front of St. Anthony’s Basilica.

Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was an Italian scientist, a physicist and a philosopher. He taught maths at the University of Padua in 1592 and in 1609 he used the telescope for the first time.

Near the railway station (Via Giotto) there is a monument which supports a steel beam found among the ruins of the Twin Towers, destroyed in 2001. The architect who designed the glass structure is Daniel Liebeskind, who was born in Poland ( Łodź)

The Commercial and Technical Institute for Tourism "Luigi Einaudi", founded in 1962, is named after the economist who was the first president of the Italian Republic, elected in May 1948. The Institute, was first meant to be a technical high school for business administration , and, over the years, other courses were added with different locations, due to increased school population which occurred mainly in the decade between 1977 and 1987, In 1992, the tourism course implemented the courses available .

The Commercial and Technical Institute “Antonio Gramsci”, founded in 1974, is named after an Italian philosopher, writer, politician and political theorist. A founding member and onetime leader of the Communist Party of Italy, he was imprisoned by Benito Mussolini during the fascist Regime (January 22, 1891 - April 27, 1937).

In October 1974 the large number of enrolments in Padova’s secondary schools caused the start of the third Commercial Technical Istitute. In 1980 specialized languages courses were added, and in 1990 an IT course. Since 1998 we have had some classes for inmates in Padua’s prison too.
