DESCRIPTION & ERECTIONThePAFILIshoringsystemisusedforthesupportof concrete formwork, such as for commercialbuildings. The simplest system is an assembledshoring tower, comprising the following threestructuralsteelcomponents:
Frames:
(Weight:25kg) (Weight:17.5kg)
Frametube=50.8mmoutsidediameter,4mmthickness
Crossbraces:
(Weight:5.5kg) (Weight:4kg)
Adjustable U-Heads & Base Jacks
(Weight:5.5kg) (Weight:4.3kg)
Jacktubes=40.0mmoutsidediameter,5mmthickness
The cover page shows a tower configurationformed from pairs of frames braced by twodiagonal crossbraces secured to pins welded totheframelegs.
Framesconsistoftwoverticalmembersseparatedbyhorizontalmembers. A frame 1.80mhigh hasthreehorizontalmembers.Aframe1.20mhighhastwohorizontalmembers.
Adjustable base jacks are inserted in the bottom
endsofallframelegstoprovidelevelingforoverallheight adjustment and to compensate for localvariationsinthesupportingsurface.AdjustableU-heads are inserted in the top of the frames tosupport bearers, and subsequently joists, and toprovidefinalheightadjustmenttothesemembers.
Towersmaybeassembledwiththeloadsappliedthrough the U-Heads with the primary bearerrunningperpendicular tothe framesor paralleltothe frames (see SafeWorking Loads section foreachconfiguration).
Towerscanbeformedtoadefinedheightusingacombination of frames of both heights, providedthatsameheightframesareusedasapairateachlevel (see picture on page 4). Crossbracing issizedtosuitbothheightframes.Frameconnectorand safety pin as shown below are used toconnectframestothedesiredheight.

PRECAUTIONS
The supporting surface for formworkframes must have sufficient strength tosupport the loads of the frames, theformwork, concrete placed on theformworkandfutureworkonthehardenedconcrete surface. Soils must becompacted to support such loads.Soleplatesusedunderthe baseplates ofthe bottom jacks and the supportingsurface must have sufficient strength tosupport the loads on the frames withoutundue settlement. Previously placedconcrete surfacesmay requiresoleplatestopreventsurfacedamagetotheconcreteorundueconcentrationoftheloadsunderthebasejacks.
Towerassembliesmorethan1-framehighshall be connected using frameconnectors. Framesafety pins should beinposition.
Where it is necessary to erect framesmore than 1.80mhigha systemmust be
developed for working at heights toprevent falls. Local regulations must beconsultedtoensurethattheselectedworkpractice, including access to the upperlevels,complieswiththeregulations.
A bearer must extend bear on the fulllengthoftheU-head.Asinglebearermustbe centred on the U-head. Where thebearerisnarrowerthantheopeningintheU-head, theU-Headshould be twisted toensure that the bearer remains at thecentre.Wheretwobearersarerequiredto
land on aU-head they must not be endbutted but must pass each other toachieve fullbearing onthesurfaceoftheU-head.
Additionalbracing tubesconnected to theframelegsmayberequiredwherelateralforces or additional loads are to beconsidered.
Frames stackedonsitemay beunstabledependingontheformofthestack.Caremust be taken to ensure that injuries donot occur when working around stackedframes.
Non-PAFILI components should not besubstituted for PAFILI components.Violation of this will invalidate thePAFILISafeWorkingLoads.
PAFILI products must be used inaccordance with PAFILI technicalspecifications, the industry-approvedcodes of practice, AS3610, OH&S Act,andanyotherrequirementsbyastatutoryorregulatorybody.
