Med-O-Gram Congratulations to Ms. Bradshaw, and Ms. Herdez, our You Make the Difference and Shining Star award recipients. They will be honored at the March 7th Governing Board Meeting.
The Madison Meadows Odyssey of the Mind teams have worked extremely hard on their long-term problem solutions. That hard work definitely paid off, as all teams performed well at the regional competition on Saturday, March 4th, 2017. Five of the teams from Meadows did well enough to advance to the state tournament in Tucson on April 1st, 2017. Please wish them well as they move forward. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Roberts, Ms. Harbottle, Ms. Andrews, and Ms. Bradshaw,(and Mrs. Deihl from Simis) who volunteered as judges. The Meadows coaches are extremely proud of all the teams.
As a reminder, the Meadows campus opens at 8:10 a.m.
In order to ensure all students are adequately supervised we cannot have students dropped off prior to 8:00 a.m. (this includes the Church parking lot) unless they have an early pass. If you need to drop off earlier, please sign-up for before school care via the Madison Adventure Club (a nominal fee applies). As a reminder, all open enroll-ment families must comply with all school rules and regulations, which include stand-ards of academic effort, conduct or attendance. Failure to comply with school rules is a breach of agreement and a cause for open enrollment revocation.
We take student safety very seriously and appreciate your cooperation and attention to this matter.

Did you know…..?
Did you know that we will be packing up the library in May? We will need to have all library materi-als back in April so we can start the inventory and then the packing up. I will inform students soon on
the exact dates. Also the Grand Canyon Reader Award voting begins on March 15th and ends on March 31st. Has your child read three books in a category? If so have them stop by the media center and “register” to vote. Basically show me their record sheet or reading log and they can vote. We have

Extraordinary Learning for All
Priority Registration Opens Friday, March 17th at 10 am!
On Friday, March 17th
at 10 am. ONLY CURRENT MAC, Preschool and INVEST participants will be able to register for 2017 Summer Camp, Summer Kindergarten Readi-ness, MAC, ECP and INVEST for School Year 2017-2018. Enrollment is first come, first served with all applications being time and date stamped. Open Enrollment for new families will start on Monday, March 27th at 10 am.
There is a non-refundable $65 registration fee, per child and per program that will need to be paid with your credit card (Visa/MC). For families with multiple children in the same program, the registration fee will be $110 per family for that program. Registration fees will be credited towards tuition only when all paperwork is signed in the DO, including providing copies of immunizations, by 4:30 pm on Friday, May 19,
2017. NO EXCEPTIONS. Registration
fees will be applied in late April and only to Summer and/or Fall 2017-2018 tuition.

WE NEED YOUR STUDENT'S OUTGROWN DRESS WEAR--Help!
The 8th grade Commencement Committee is looking for gently used boys and girls dress clothes and shoes for a boutique they are setting up to bene-
fit those 8th grade Meadows students who need help with their Commencement Ceremony and Commencement Dance attire. We want all of our commencing students to feel confident and proud as they walk
across the stage.
Needed Donations:
* Girls dresses, skirts and blouses with modesty an important consideration. No strapless/spaghetti/halter dresses, formal gowns or
mini-skirts. * Girls/women's dress shoes with a heel strap for safety.
* Boys long sleeved, solid color dress shirts, ties and slacks. No polo style shirts.
* Boys/men's dress shoes.
A box will be set up in the office for donations starting Monday, January 9th.
Deadline is March 31, 2017. Boutique to be open in April--date to be announced.

NEWS FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE Nurse Sharon
FLU SEASON IS HERE: If your child is sick with a temperature, coughing, general-
ized weakness and a headache for 3-5 days or more--—it is probably the flu!! Keep your child home so they can rest and get better sooner without spreading the flu to oth-
ers. Flu Shots are still recommended for all, but check with your doctor if you have any concerns or questions.
IMMUNIZATIONS: Meningitis and Tdap are required for all 11 yr olds in the 6th
grade. Please continue to send in proof of any immunizations your child has received so their shot record will be up to date. Please keep track of these shots yourself as well since all 8th grade students need to send in immunization records to their child’s pro-
spective high schools.
SICK CHILD: ALL STUDENTS MUST BE FREE OF A TEMPERATURE, VOMIT-ING AND DIARRHEA FOR 24 HRS BEFORE COMING BACK TO SCHOOL.
PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CHILDREN… All children mature at different
rates. It is exciting when our children grow up, but sometimes it is too fast. Middle school children want to be experimenters. They dare each other to do things and want to act tough so they are doing some silly things – these things can have big consequenc-es. Some things I am talking about are drinking, smoking, eraser burns and digging or
cutting in the skin with various objects.
Be Proactive, Be Positive and Be a Good Parent… Pay attention to your children.

Dear Meadows Parents and Students,
Every school year each family is asked to pay a $50 Activity fee for each of their students. Over the course of the school year this fee covers field trips, demonstrations, special guest visits, bus transportation to off campus
events, assemblies and other school wide and grade level events.
The Activity fee applies towards your Arizona Tax Credit and must be paid to participate in field trips including the cost of the 8th Grade Water Day and Sunscreen/Hydration lesson associated with this field trip.

There are usually a lot of questions about 8th Grade Commencement. Here are some
important dates to note.
May 22, 2017 Awards Event, 8:45 am in the cafeteria. Parents welcome. May 23, 2017 Commencement Ceremony, 5:00 pm at Madison #1.
May 24, 2017 Water Park during school. 8th Grade Dance 7:00-9:30 pm.
Detailed information will be available after the 8th grade student assembly January 6th. This will be when the principal will discuss expectations for grades and behavior in order to participate in com-mencement events. Thereafter, a $55 Commencement fee will be due for all 8th grade students that covers t-shirt with this year’s theme, commencement DVD, commencement dance including food, drinks, DJ, special photo booth, decorations and supplies, ceremony program and tickets, 8th Grade award plaques and a class gift for the school.

8 Ways to Help!
Meadows PTM is happy to have your student in our student body and to have you in our strong parent community. Our school is able to do a lot for our students and faculty because of an active communi-ty. As Meadows’ families we would like you to know easy ways to help Meadows!!
1. STAY INFORMED!! Monthly Med-O-Grams, and weekly e-mails from Principal Carney are primary
sources of communication, but also ‘Like us” on Facebook - Parents and Teachers at Meadows (PTM)

2. VOLUNTEER – we need everyone – from those who take an one hour turn in the snack shack or help the library pack up for the construction to those who run committees! It all helps our school. Directory Ad. Chair and IB Committee Chair (work with Ms. Coughlin) are some open chairmanships - ask PTM for more details! Or give us your idea! 3. DONATE or Purchase for our Fall Fundraiser -it sets the budget for the year! Watch for the kick-off as soon as school starts!
4. CLIP – General Mills Box Tops for Education: This program gives 10 cents for each valid Box Top. Contests end in October and April, winning teacher gets dinner out! Please trim and turn them in to homeroom/first period. Put out a collection bin at work, church or temple! If these box tops go in the trash, no one wins!
5. SUPPORT - Meadows Athletic Program by purchasing a banner for your business or family that will show in the Gym or Fields for a school year - Cost is $250 - $300 And show your school spirit with a magnet on your car!.
6. Enroll in eScrip - Restaurant dining and on-line shopping can bring free money to Meadows, if you sign up on www.eScrip.com and enter your credit card information, when you dine at participating res-taurants: Streets of New York, Spinato’s & many others using your card- restaurants reward your loyalty by sending Meadows a percent of your purchase. Successful program at Meadows for over a decade - no cost to you! (Safeway no longer participates, a loss to us of about $8,000 in revenue). We need to make it up with particpation in their dining and on-line shopping programs!
7. EAT OUT - support Meadows’ monthly restaurant night - Meadows will get a percentage of what our supporters spend at favorite dining places. Stay tuned for more details.
8. FRY’s SHOPPERS - SIGN UP or RENEW! – go to www.frysfood.com and register your card. Renew each Fall to continue your support. (Instructions on back of this flyer.)

Governing Board Meeting Dates

The Governing Board of the Madison Elementary School District will meet
in a regular session on the following dates.
All regular meetings will be held on the first and third Tuesday of each month starting at 6:00 P.M. in the Board Room of the District Administration Building at 5601 N. 16th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85016. Public notice of all Governing Board meetings will be posted in a case in front of the District Office Admin-istration Building at 5601 N. 16th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85016, at least 24 hours prior to a Board meeting.
One or more members of the Board may participate in the meeting by telephone, video, or internet confer-encing.
Pursuant to A.R.S. 38-431.03.A.3, the Board may vote to convene an executive session (which will not be open to the public) for discussion or consultation with the Board’s attorney(s) on any matter listed on the Agenda. The Board attorney(s) may appear in person or telephonically.
The Board reserves the right to change the order of items on the Agenda, with the exception of public hear-ings set for a specific time.
A copy of background material for an Agenda item provided to Board members (with the exception of mate-rials relating to executive sessions) is available for public inspection at the District’s administrative offices, located at 5601 N. 16th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85016, at least 24 hours prior to the Board meeting.
