Here are a few areas. DICTIONARIES The Walker Rotary Club presented dictionaries to every third-grader at Laporte Elementary and the WHA School this past October. Pictured are Ro- tary Club members Rich Yeager and Alice Groth with Steve Booth’s third-grade class in Laporte. MEALS ON WHEELS One of Walker Rotary’s long-term and extremely satisfying projects. It gives our members great satisfaction to deliver meals to those who are unable to venture out. BELL RINGING CHARITY The traditional Salvation Army Red Kettle is an integral part of the Christmas scene, with money donated each year to aid needy families, seniors and the homeless, in keeping with the spirit of the season. Donations provide Christmas dinners, clothing and toys for local families in need. CHRISTMAS CAROLING A great addition to our Rotary holiday season, many Rotarians and Interact students hop on the May Creek Lodge bus and spread cheer by shar- ing favorite holiday carols at local senior centers, nursing homes and assisted living facilities. ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY The Adopt-a-Highway project brings Rotarians and the Cub Scout troop that we sponsor together for an afternoon of community service and interaction.

CUB SCOUT PACK 40 CELEBRATIONPack 40 had a Blue & Gold celebration dinner in February catered by their sponsor organization, Walker Rotary Club, with help from Interact Kids. The night featured a Friends of Scouting presenta-tion and some scouting awards.

JOB SHADOWING PROGRAMSeveral Walker-Hackensack-Akeley School stu-dents took part in the Walker Rotary Club’s Job Shadowing Program. The fi rst group of on-the-job students and employers attended the April 19 Ro-tary meeting. Thanks to Terry Freeman and Brad Spry for arranging this opportunity for students.

Avenues of ServiceCONTINUED

4TH OF JULY COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONProvides a tasty fi sh fry and thirst-quenching beer garden, and also provides the band at city park for all to enjoy.

ETHNIC FEST FISH FRYDave & Skip doing their thing with corn dogs, fries, cheese curds and the ever-famous Rotary Fish. All funds generated go right back into the community.

WALKER BAY DAYSOne of Walker Rotary’s community service goals is to support local organizations and events and help make them successful.

ROTARY ROSE SALEOnce again the Walker Rotary Rose sale was a success. Thanks to Mary Johnson for organizing everything again this year. Also, thanks to the Rotarians who made the contacts and distribution and, most of all, thanks to all of you who continue to make this possible. This fundraiser, like the others, will see the profi ts going back into the community to help those organizations with necessary funds in these tough times.

ROTARY EXTRAVAGANZAEntertainment, fellowship, great food and excite-ment are all part of Rotary’s largest fundraiser. This reverse raffl e awards $10,000 to the pur-chaser of the winning ticket. Rotary proceeds are used for community service, vocational service and international service projects.

STEM & STEIN EXPERIENCEOffering taste-tantalizing entrees and wines to complement the cuisine at this mid-May event.
