A Native American leader called Metacomet began to dislike the English colonists. People began calling him King Phillip because he compared himself to King Charles.

Tensions finally erupted into a conflict called “King Phillip’s War.”

France and England each wanted control over Europe and North America.

This conflict causes a series of wars between the two countries.

The French built three forts in the Ohio Valley to protect the trade with the Native Americans.

The British colonist felt that the French were keeping them from expanding into the West.

Benjamin Franklin helped write the Albany Plan of Union

This called for the colonies to unite.Colonies rejected the Albany Plan, as did Parliament.

While delegates met in Albany, the British began building a fort along the Ohio River.

A young soldier, George Washington made a name for himself during the war.

The turning point of the war came when British troops took Quebec, the capital of New France.

The Native Americans fought for both sides depending on trade and alliances.

Treaty of Paris – ended the war and gained French lands east of Mississippi

Conflicts over the newly acquired land in the Ohio River valley with the Native Americans

This led to Britain refusing to let colonists settle west of the Appalachian Mountains – Proclamation of 1763

Britain had an enormous debt left over from the war.

This caused Britain to try to make money from the colonists

CONSEQUENCES
