PALM BEACHROUND TABLE

Members LuncheonThe Palm Beach Round Table held a luncheon on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at The Colony Palm Beach with Luncheon Chairman Hermé deWyman Miro and President Dick Robinson presiding over the event. Arlette Gordon and Elizabeth Bowden were the Luncheon Under-writers. Executive Director Barbara Anderson was the Speaker Sponsor. The guest speaker was Dr. Barbara Krantz, Medical Director of the noted nonprofit Hanley Center. Dr. Krantz speech topic was “The Impact of Addiction and New Treat-ment Research”. She stated that one sixth of the US population are using prescription drugs non-medically. Dr. Krantz stated that 70% of these pre-scription drugs are being taken unknowingly from people’s medicine cabinets. She said drug uninten-tional deaths are second to car accidents. She also said 8 out of 14 abused drugs among high school 12th graders are prescription drugs. Dr. Krantz said the economic costs of adverse events caused by drug use to be estimated at more than $22 trillion. She showed brain scans of the harmful effects from abuse of drugs that are caused from the decreased blood flow to the brain and described the treat-ments that are having positive results for people. The Boynton Beach High School Dimensional Harmony Choir, consisting of 35 talented stu-dents, performed a musical interlude led by their di-rector Sterling Frederick prior to the luncheon. Mrs. de Wyman Miro, Chairman, presented a scholarship to Boynton Beach High School Direc-tor Mr. Frederick. The Round Table patron mem-bers and guests greatly enjoyed the event.

I recently opened my location here in Palm Beach after coming to US from Milan to participate in various Art and Antique shows for many years.

It was wonderful to be back at the Palm Beach Jewelry, Art and Antique show this month and meet with all my old clients and interior designer friends from all over the world.

I really came to realize there is a definite market for Scandi-navian and Swedish painted furniture in pastel colors espe-cially here in South Florida.

I am very much looking forward to welcoming clients with taste and appreciation for high quality antiques to my shop!

Tens of thousands of savvy collectors, industry experts and serious buyers flocked to the Palm Beach County Convention Center February 17-21 for the annual return of the Palm Beach Jewelry, Art & Antique Show. The show reached a record number of attendees and sales in the history of the show including selling out the parking lot each day. With the collections of more than 180 world-renowned dealers on display, the show featured a broad spectrum of items available for purchase.

“We have exceeded all expectations for this year’s Palm Beach Show with the best attendance and sales in the history of the show”, said Scott Diament, President and CEO of The Palm Beach Show Group. “This show is a significant cultural event that has been brought to Palm Beach County for nine consecutive years, and we are pleased to host it every year.”

The Hope for Depression Research Foundation (HDRF), founded by Audrey Gruss was the show’s char-ity sponsor adding new features to the show incorporat-ing design into real lifestyles of today. A champagne recep-tion was held on Friday’s Preview Evening to showcase a special room with five vignettes designed by nationally-acclaimed AD 100 interior designers; Scott Snyder, Jim Aman & John Meeks, Bruce Bierman, Geoffrey Bradfield and Campion Platt.

“All the supporters I spoke to were delighted to walk through the Hope Designer Showcase. It was a wonderful way for them to see how art and antiques from the show work in today’s real lifestyles.” said Gruss, founder of HDRF. “We at HDRF were so pleased to partner with such an exciting, successful event. After all, the show is about creativity and beauty, and it’s wonderful to see how it can enhance your life.”

Sales were strong throughout the show and dealers were once again pleased with the array of serious collectors shopping the show floor.

“By far the best show ever with the quality attendance in our booth. Show seems to be up 30% higher than it was last year,” said David Rosenberg, President of Rosenberg Dia-monds. “Our sales have been in the seven figures.”

“It was a great crowd, they were extremely educated in what they were looking for,” said Nick Boston from Nick & Martine Boston Antiques.

Next year’s Palm Beach Jewelry, Art & Antique Show will be held Presidents’ Day weekend, February 15-19, 2013, at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.

50ANNIVERSARYCELEBRATION

Solving The Neurological Puzzle Raises over $ 350,000.00 for

the first inaugural event

TH

On Saturday, February 25, the University of Miami, Department of Neurology, had their first major fund-raiser in Palm Beach at the Breakers Hotel. Janet Levy and Cindy Feltenstein were co-chairs of this spectacular evening of dinner, dancing and entertain-ment by Jay Leno. The evening began with a cocktail reception in a beautiful-ly decorated Mediterranean ballroom. VIPs, which consisted of major donor and ticket holders were escorted into the Florentine room which had been transformed into a chic nightclub atmosphere for cocktails and hor’deurves. The affable Jay Leno appeared and lingered to chat with guests and have their photos taken with him. After cocktails , guests entered the magnificent Venetian room. Michael Williams , news anchor of WPTV. intro-duced Donna Shalala, President of the University of

Miami, who spoke about how the University, under the guidance of Department chair Ralph Sacco and Miller School of Medicine Dean Pascal Goldschmidt, has successfully increased their neurology department rat-ing to number 33 out of 1,300 national ranked neurology departments in the U.S.. according to U.S. News & World Report.Jay Leno had the crowd in stitches as he delivered a half hour comedy act. A gracious Jay Leno not only person-ally donated $10,000 to the University of Miami in honor of the Gala’s co-chair Janet Levy, but used his auction-eer talents to raise thousands more for the neurological department and even generously donated almost 200 VIP tickets with back stage passes to the “Tonight Show” to anyone who bought them for the auction bid price of $500.00. Michael Williams then topped the night off by raising over $35,000 in less than 10 minutes.

Rose Glamoclija understands as well as anyone the impor-tance of dealing with health professionals who are focused on meeting the specific needs of the client.

This is her goal at Boca Nursing Services, which she launched 18 years ago after spending time as a registered nurse who worked with private patients. “Continuity is very important to our clients,” Glamoclija says. “It’s com-forting to know that someone who understands what you need and want is always available to help.”

To help ensure continuity of care and provide peace of mind for her patients and their families, Glamoclija developed a team approach designed to provide each client with a team of caregivers.“When I first meet with a patient, I immediately havean idea of which caregivers will make the best team,”she says. “We’ve discovered that there is a high degree of patient satisfaction that results from matching the right team to the patient.”

At Boca Nursing Services, it’s not unusual for a team of caregivers to stay with a patient for many years.“Whether they’re at home or in the hospital, our cli-ents are able to live more enjoyable lives thanks to the team approach,” Glamoclija says.
