Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) by a project team from the Department of Counseling and Educational Development at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG)
• Partial funding came from the U.S. Department of Education College Access Challenge Grant P378A11017

Parent: those who are raising the child such as a father or mother, grandparents, foster parents, or other adult family members
College: education beyond high school received from two-year and four-year colleges where students can earn a wide range of credentials . . . from certificates and diplomas, to associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and more
Parent Curriculum - Goals
• Help parents of middle school and early high school students understand how important they are in the career and college planning process, even if they did not attend college themselves
• Using the analogy of a track meet and planning for a race, parents learn how to serve in their roles as:– Planner (Coach)– Provider (Sponsor)– Persuader (Cheerleader)
Parent Curriculum - Goals
• Foster parent/child communication
• Provide practical tips to parents on assisting their child in planning, applying, paying, and transitioning to college

• Curriculum is divided into six sessions with each one having the following materials: – Online PowerPoint presentation– Facilitator’s Guide– Parent Playbook
• The content within each session will help parents and their children develop a “track” to meet their college and post-high school goals. Because many “tracks” have hurdles, parent involvement is a crucial support!
