INTRODUCTIONDear Goose Creek CISD Families, As we begin the 2020-2021 school year, I want you to know how much I appreciate each of you. Our district could not ask for a more dedicated, caring community, and I am proud of the way you handled the challenges we faced last spring as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, embracing technology with online instruction and adjusting to the stresses that have been brought on by the pandemic. While we had hoped to return to some sense of normalcy by the beginning of this school year, we have chosen to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Texas Education Agency and executive orders from our state and local authorities. As you know, we will begin the school year with virtual instruction for a three week period due to the rise of COVID-19 cases and begin our hybrid face-to-face instruction on September 28th. This publication serves as a guide to our staff, students, and families as we return to face-to-face instruction. Because this is a fluid event, we will continue to provide updates to this plan as necessary. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and it is our goal to provide the safest learning environment possible. We have worked hard to

provide the safest and most comprehensive plan for our students and staff. Working with our Board of Trustees, we will strive to make informed decisions in the best interest of our students and staff. Again, thank you for everything you do, and I pray that we all stay safe have a smooth start to the school year.

PREVENTION PROTOCOLSSELF-HEALTH ASSESSMENTS

► All staff will be required to take a COVID-19 Self-Health Assessment prior to coming to work every day. ► Parents will be asked to daily administer the COVID-19 Self-Health Assessment prior to sending their children

to school and to keep them home if they display any of the symptoms listed on the COVID-19 Self-Health Assessment. (Please see COVID-19 Self-Health Assessment below).

► Individuals who develop symptoms listed on the COVID-19 Self-Health Assessment will be sent to the school nurse and placed in an isolation area; parents will be contacted immediately for pick up. Parents/Guardians will need to pick up their child so as possible.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT [PPE] ► Teachers and staff will be required to wear face coverings (masks and/or clear face shields) when traveling outside

their classroom and when six feet of social distancing is not possible. ► Students in grades 1-12 will be required to wear face coverings (masks and/or clear face shields) when traveling

outside their classroom and when six feet of social distancing is not possible. All face coverings shall be free of any inappropriate images, words, and/or political slogans and must follow districts dress code guidelines.

► Some face coverings may be available for students, but parents are encouraged to obtain a face covering for their student that fits comfortably.

PROPER HYGIENE ► Teachers will lead age appropriate discussions in frequent and proper handwashing techniques and campus safety

practices including social distancing. ► Students will participate in scheduled handwashing times throughout the day. ► Safety and hygiene reminders will be posted throughout campuses.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY MEASURES ► Students are encouraged to bring their own water to school in a clear plastic container labeled with the student’s

name. Some water fountains will be blocked off for safety reasons. ► Students will be instructed on mitigation strategies: wear your mask, watch your distance, wash your hands. ► Students and staff will follow current COVID-19 Return to School/Work Guidelines. ► Should a student or staff member test positive for COVID-19, communication will follow based on state and local

guidelines. ► Some daily temperature checks will be performed.

COVID-19 SELF-HEALTH ASSESSMENTIf your child is experiencing any of the listed symptoms below, keep your child home from school and contact your medical provider for further instructions:

► Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit

► Loss of taste or smell ► Cough ► Difficulty breathing ► Shortness of breath ► Fatigue ► Headache

If any of the above-listed symptoms are sudden or severe, seek immediate medical attention.

► Chills ► Sore throat ► Congestion or runny nose ► Shaking or exaggerated shivering ► Significant muscle pain or ache ► Diarrhea ► Nausea or vomiting

COVID-19 RESPONSE LEVELSNo confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff or students.

► Face-to-face hybrid instruction and virtual instruction options will be in place.

► Teachers and classroom paraprofessionals will provide face-to-face and virtual instruction from a classroom setting unless otherwise instructed.

► Face coverings, such as masks or face shields, are required for students and staff in required areas.

► Safety and health measures will be in place, including daily self-screenings of staff and students prior to entering the facility. All students and staff will follow district prevention protocols.

► Daily and frequent cleaning; disinfection of commonly touched surfaces.

► Limited visitor access. ► Virus trends in the community via health departments will be

monitored. ► Curbside meal distribution will be available to students not

attending in-person instruction. ► Campus homepage will show the updated response level.

One or more confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff or students.

► All level green protocols and safety precautions will be in place. ► Face-to-face hybrid instruction and virtual instruction options will

be in place. ► Teachers and classroom paraprofessionals will provide face-to-face

and online instruction from a classroom setting unless otherwise instructed.

► Schools will immediately separate any student who shows COVID-19 symptoms while at school until the student can be picked up by a parent or guardian.

► Specific areas will be closed and deep cleaned. ► If a targeted area or classroom exceeds 10% of confirmed cases,

then individuals in that area will be advised to self-quarantine per CDC guidelines. Affected students and staff may be required to temporarily move to virtual instruction at home.

► Curbside meal distribution will be available to students not attending in-person instruction.

► Communication will be sent to all students and staff regarding all confirmed case(s) of COVID-19

Escalated number of confirmed COVID-19 cases district-wide at multiple facilities.

► Facility closure if COVID-19 cases exceed 10% or a lower percentage if deemed necessary by local/state health officials.

► All students and staff at affected facility will participate in virtual instruction at home.

► The facility will be temporarily closed for deep cleaning. ► All nonessential events will be postponed or cancelled. ► The school district will send out communications in the event of a

level orange response. ► Curbside meal distribution will be available to students. ► The majority of campus staff will work remotely until the

COVID-19 levels improve. ► Some staff may be called to on-site work as needed or required

with strict safety protocols in place and masks required.

Escalated number of confirmed COVID-19 cases at a facility.

► District closure if COVID-19 cases exceed 10% or a lower percentage if deemed necessary by local/state health officials.

► All district facilities will be temporarily closed for deep cleaning. ► All students and staff will participate in virtual instruction at home. ► All facilities and school buses will be deep cleaned and disinfected. ► All extracurricular activities will be cancelled. ► The school district will send out communications in the event of a

level red response. ► Curbside meal distribution will be available to students at specific

locations. ► Campus homepage will show the updated response level. ► The majority of district staff will work remotely until the

COVID-19 levels improve. Some staff may be called to on-site work as needed or required with strict safety protocols in place and face-coverings required

► Campus homepage will show the updated response level. In the event of a level change, staff and students will be notified via email and phone.

This plan is subject to change based on revisions by state or local authorities. Campus websites will be updated daily by 5 p.m.

DISTRICT RESPONSE PROTOCOLSSUMMARYGoose Creek Consolidated Independent School District has developed a COVID-19 Response Protocol in alignment with the Harris County COVID-19 Threat Level System with which many are familiar. The COVID Response Levels will be a color-coded visual that will reflect district and campus actions when there is a confirmed COVID-19 case with staff or students. The COVID Response Levels will serve as the district’s operational decision-maker during the 2020-2021 school year.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS A CONFIRMED CASE OF COVID-19 ON A CAMPUS? ► Parents must ensure they do not send a child to school on campus if the child has COVID-19 symptoms or is

lab-confirmed with COVID-19. When a student shows symptoms or is lab-confirmed, then he or she will move to virtual instruction at home until the below conditions for re-entry are met. If a child has had close contact with an individual who is lab-confirmed COVID-19, then the child should move to virtual instruction at home until the 14 day incubation period has passed.

► Any individual (staff or student) who are lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 or experience symptoms of COVID-19 must stay at home throughout the infection period, and cannot return to campus until the school system screens the individual to determine any of the below conditions for campus re-entry have been met.

► Schools and school nurses will follow the district Student Process Map for COVID-19 for guidance. See this document for more information.

► In the case of an individual who was diagnosed with COVID-19, the individual may return to school when all three of the following criteria are met:

▪ At least one day (24 hours) has passed since recovery (resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications)

▪ The individual has improvement of symptoms (e.g. cough, shortness of breath) ▪ At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared

► In the case of an individual who has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and who is not evaluated by a medical professional or tested for COVID-19, such individual is assumed to have COVID-19, and the individual may not return to the campus until the individual has completed the same three-step set of criteria listed above.

► If the individual has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and wants to return to school before completing the above stay at home period, the individual must either (a) obtain a medical professional’s note clearing the individual for return based on an alternative diagnosis or (b) obtain an acute infection test at an approved testing location that comes back negative for COVID-19.

IDENTIFYING POSSIBLE COVID-19 CASES ON CAMPUS ► Schools must immediately separate any student who shows COVID-19 symptoms while at school until the student

can be picked up by a parent or guardian. ► Schools should clean areas used by the individual who shows COVID-19 symptoms while at school (student,

teacher, staff) as soon as possible. ► Students who report feeling feverish should be given an immediate temperature check to determine if they are

symptomatic for COVID-19. ► View the Student Process Map on the next page.

STAFF GUIDANCE ON COVID-19 AND RETURN TO WORK ► The district has created an Employee Return to Work Guide for COVID-19, which addresses safety precautions,

staff communication plan, employee attendance, and short term work from home guidelines. In addition to the listed items above for all staff and students, this document provides specific information regarding staff safety and COVID-19 protocols.

► Staff should follow guidelines as listed in the GCCISD Employee Guidelines document. ► The district has provided an Employee/Workplace Process Map for COVID-19 to help answer questions regarding

suspected cases, symptoms reported, and confirmed cases.

Upon notification of a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 on a

campus, the district willcommunicate with teachers,

staff, and families of studentswho were potentially exposed.

To be considered exposed to COVID-19, you need to have prolonged close contact with a person who has the virus. According to the Texas Education Agency, close contact is defined as being directly exposed to infectious secretions (e.g., being coughed on); or being within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes; however, additional factors like case/contact masking (i.e., both the infectious individual and the potential close contact have been consistently

and properly masked), ventilation, presence of dividers, and case symptomology may affect this determination.

ARRIVAL ► When possible, separate entrances will be utilized for car riders, bus riders, and walkers. ► Staff will be on duty to ensure distancing as students arrive on campus. ► Students will go straight to the designated areas set by each campus. ► Parents will not be allowed to walk students to classrooms. ► Parents should make an appointment when needing to meet with a teacher. Until further notice, appointments

shall be virtual (Webex) or by phone. ► All approved visitors are required to wear a face covering (facemask or cloth face covering) in the building and use

hand sanitizer upon entering a building. ► All approved visitors must follow the posted GCCISD Visitor Guidelines when entering the campus.

DISMISSAL ► Campus will designate staggered dismissal groups. Staggering the groups of walkers, car riders, bus riders or grade

level will help manage student movement in the building and decrease the risk of potential crowding outside at dismissal time.

► Separate exits will be utilized for car riders, bus riders, and walkers. ► Parents picking up students during the day will be required to call ahead so that students can be sent or

accompanied to parent vehicles upon arrival. ► Office staff will sign the student out, documenting both the time the student left the building as well as the time

the parent requested for early dismissal.

TRANSITION ► Hallways will be clearly marked to ensure flow of walking traffic and safety. ► Staff will be utilized for duty to maintain a line of sight in the hallway and distancing of hallway cohorts. ► Sanitizer stations will be placed at each entrance/exit and around the campus.

ARRIVAL, DISMISSAL & TRANSITION

BUS TRANSPORTATIONOVERVIEWIn response to COVID-19, Goose Creek CISD encourages all families with the ability to do so to transport their children to and from school. Bus transportation will be offered; however, the standard number of transported students compromises the ability to socially distance. For this reason, students in grades 1-12 utilizing bus transportation will be required to wear face coverings (masks and/or clear face shields) onboard.

TO ENSURE SAFETY ► Hand sanitizer will be available when boarding the bus. ► All bus drivers will wear face coverings (masks and/or clear face shields). ► Students in grades 1-12 will wear face coverings (masks and/or clear face shields) while riding the bus.

▪ Students who attempt to ride without a mask will be given one. ▪ Repeated attempts to ride without proper face coverings may cause a student’s riding privileges to be

revoked ► Buses will be cleaned/disinfected between each transportation run and at the end of the day. ► Transportation staff will be trained in proper cleaning/disinfecting procedures. ► All GCCISD vehicles will be equipped with cleaning and disinfecting supplies. ► Loading, unloading and seating will occur in the order of the route rather than by grade. This will reduce every

student’s exposure. Driver will determine the seating arrangement. ► Weather permitting, routes will be driven with the windows open and A/C units on, if equipped, to aid in

ventilation.

CAMPUS VISITOR PROTOCOLSIn response to COVID-19, Goose Creek CISD will implement the following expectations for visitors to Goose Creek CISD schools and facilities:

► Visitors will be restricted to those essential to school operations. Until further notice, due to safety precautions, no outside deliveries, such as food and gifts, will be accepted during the school day.

► Visitors/parents will not be allowed to eat breakfast/lunch with their child at the school until further notice. ► All campus visitors will utilize the intercom access device installed at the front door of each school. ► All visitors must have a scheduled appointment. (e.g., ARD Meetings, 504 Meetings, Parent/Teacher Conferences). ► When possible, campuses will utilize virtual meeting options to limit campus visitors. ► Social distancing is expected for all meetings that are not able to be virtual (e.g, ARD Meetings, 504 Meetings). ► Visitors/Parents will not be allowed to exit vehicles during drop-off or pick-up. ► All approved visitors are required to wear a face coverings (masks and/or clear face shields) in the building and use

hand sanitizer upon entering a building. ► Upon entry into the building, approved visitors will be required to complete a health screening to determine if

they have any COVID-19 symptoms or have come into close contact with an individual who is lab-confirmed with COVID-19.

► Any visitor who needs to go beyond the front office will be subject to a health screening which will include a temperature check.

► Any visitor who has COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms or has come into close contact with an individual who is lab-confirmed with COVID-19 must remain off campus until the 10-day incubation period has passed.

CLASSROOM CONFIGURATION & PROCEDURESClassroom protocols and procedures will include expectations regarding not sharing school supplies, social distancing, group work, and handwashing or sanitizing, etc. Teachers will ensure high-touch areas in the classroom are sanitized throughout the day. All classrooms will be supplied with:

► Visual reminders of distancing requirements will be in all classrooms marking off areas for common spaces and distancing best practices.

► Classrooms will contain refillable alcohol-based hand sanitizer stations. ► Staff will have access to disinfectant to sanitize working surfaces.

In addition to the above the following measures will be taken in every classroom: ► Whenever possible, students and staff will maintain consistent

groupings of people to minimize the spread of the virus. ► When possible, technology should be utilized when students are

involved in collaborative work. ► Group or pair work can be implemented while maintaining physical

distancing. ► In areas where it is not possible to adequately maintain social

distance, students and staff will be required to wear face coverings (masks and/or clear face shields). Health exceptions allowed.

► While in the classroom, students and staff will be allowed to remove face coverings if they are able to appropriately social distance. GCCISD will adhere to any State, County, or City safety requirements.

► Teachers will allow for appropriate social distancing for students as they transition throughout the classroom.

EXTRACURRICULAR & STUDENT ACTIVITIESExtracurricular/cocurricular activities, practices and competitions will be conducted following safety protocols provided by Goose Creek ISD, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This will include health screening, group sizes, sharing and sanitizing of equipment, locker room usage, etc. For the most recent guidance from UIL regarding fall sports and performing arts, go to www.uiltexas.org

EXTRACURRICULAR, P.E. & STUDENT ACTIVITIES

TO ENSURE SAFETY ► Hand sanitizer will be available in gym areas and fine arts classrooms, and equipment will be sanitized on a regular

basis. ► Locker room use will be determined by TEA/UIL. If locker rooms can be accessed, all locker room space will be

utilized to follow social distancing guidelines. ► Bus travel will follow transportation guidelines provided by Goose Creek CISD and TEA. ► Spectator attendance at games and contests may be limited based on TEA and UIL guidelines. ► Ticketing for events may be utilized to control capacity of facilities. ► Event procedures will be in place to minimize face-to-face interactions. ► Separate entrances and exits may be utilized, and event doors may be propped open to minimize physical contact

with handles. ► Spectator seats may be marked and/or configured in a way to enforce social distancing. ► Concessions and/or concession sales may be limited to encourage social distancing and to follow health and safety

guidelines. ► School-wide indoor pep rallies will not be held during the fall semester. ► Outdoor pep rallies or gatherings must include appropriate social distancing. ► Assemblies and student activities must adhere to recommended social distancing. ► Handwashing or hand sanitation stations will be available for every activity. ► Use of face coverings (masks and/or clear face shields) should be implemented per prevention protocols.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION & FINE ARTS ► Whenever possible, physical education and fine arts

classes will be held outside to allow for maximum social distancing between students.

► Visual markers will be on the gym floor and bleachers as reminders of social distancing rules.

► Locker room and class size will be determining factors when it comes to dressing out for secondary physical education classes.

► Students will be placed in smaller, appropriate groups for instruction and activities for appropriate social distancing.

► Students must provide their own water bottles. ► Restroom use will follow the practice of “one in and one

out.” Equipment will be disinfected after each use. ► Any activities bringing students into close physical

contact will be avoided. Activities requiring multiple students to touch or handle the same equipment will be avoided.

► Sanitizing areas and access to handwashing will be provided.

FACILITY SANITATIONOVERVIEWIn Goose Creek CISD the health, safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff are our priority. In response to COVID-19, GCCISD’s face-to-face instruction plans include enhanced sanitization measures, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved cleaning products, attention to personal hygiene and social distancing practices. With these mitigations in mind, GCCISD can do its part to keep our students and staff as safe as possible while protecting our schools and community. The summary below follows recommendations for school opening and operations provided by the CDC, the Texas Education Agency (TEA), (EPA) and state and local health officials.

DAILY DISTRICT AND CAMPUS FACILITY CLEANING ► GCCISD will use a team cleaning process and CDC recommended disinfectants proven to kill bacteria and viruses

(including COVID-19) that are certified safe for students, staff and schools. ► Custodial staff will wear face coverings (masks and/or clear face shields) , gloves and any appropriate personal

protective equipment (PPE) while performing their daily cleaning duties. ► All GCCISD custodial staff will complete COVID-19 Cleaning and Safety Protocol Training. ► Custodial staff will frequently clean high touch surfaces including handrails, door handles, push bars, counter tops,

and other high touch surfaces throughout the day. ► Custodial staff will increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, cafeteria and common areas

throughout the day. ► Custodial staff will also use electrostatic disinfectant foggers to deep clean campuses and facilities during evening

shifts. ► Additional hand sanitizer dispensers will be placed throughout all district facilities and maintained throughout the

day. ► District staff will have access to cleaning supplies to sanitize working surfaces and shared objects after each use

and during breaks in instruction to maximize room-to-room and building cleanliness.

TECHNOLOGYOVERVIEWGoose Creek CISD’s Technology Department is striving to develop a plan to provide a technology device to every student who does not have access to one for virtual instruction.

Parents of students who need an iPad to access virtual instruction must complete the iPad Loan Agreement form in Back to School Registration on the district website at www.gccisd.net. If registration was completed before the form was added, please go into Back to School Registration and complete the form.

DEVICE ELIGIBILITY ► High school - all students

are currently eligible for a 1:1 iPad initiative

► Junior school - all students will now be eligible for a 1:1 iPad initiative

► Elementary school - any student in need of a device

INTERNET ACCESSGoose Creek CISD’s Technology Department is striving to assist parents who do not have internet access at home for virtual instruction.

Parents need to complete Back to School Registration on the district website, which includes a questionnaire about internet access. Campuses will reach out to parents who qualify for a device with details on device pickup. All GCCISD campus facilities provide exterior wifi access to all students and staff. Families that live in a Comcast service area may be eligible for Comcast Internet Essentials.

NUTRITIONVIRTUAL LEARNING [SEPTEMBER 8TH - 25TH]Parents of GCCISD students or GCCISD students may pick up breakfast and lunch from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday – Friday. Student ID number will be required. Breakfast is at no cost to all students and lunch price varies with student meal status (free, reduced and paid). Free and reduced meal applications and payment information are available on the Nutrition Services webpage. The following campuses will have meals available for pickup from 11 am – 1 pm:

All students in after-school programs will receive an after-school snack or an after-school supper at no cost.

In response to COVID-19, Goose Creek CISD will provide comprehensive support services for students, teachers, staff and families. The services will include guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, school system support and resources. Secondary students will receive counseling services during asynchronous learning times in the virtual and hybrid learning models. Elementary services will be provided during the school day. Family engagement and resources will be provided on a weekly basis. Ongoing teacher and staff support will be available through individual and team consultation and training opportunities. All services will be available through awareness campaigns and community outreach and engagement. INSTRUCTIONAL MODELS

This fall, Goose Creek CISD will be implementing instructional practices to provide consistency across learning environments and ensure the safety of students and staff. Regardless of the learning environment, GCCISD is committed to ensuring that students have an equitable experience and access to high quality instruction:

OVERVIEW

► Students will engage in learning through two different environments (face-to-face and virtual) making it necessary for teacher teams to plan instruction that is content-consistent, yet environment-specific to ensure equitable learning opportunities for all students.

► GCCISD will utilize the strategies and best practices associated with blended learning to design learning activities for all students.

► Learning experiences are designed to meet the needs and environment of the learner. ► Students, regardless of learning environment, will engage in high quality learning experiences aligned to GCCISD

curriculum and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. ► Students who begin the year in face-to-face learning at school may move into virtual learning for a period of time

if needed for school closure due to student/staff illness or county or state regulations. ► Both the virtual and face-to-face experience provide similar expectations around coursework and follow the same

grading guidelines. ► Students will utilize Webex, Google Classroom or SeeSaw as learning tools. ► As virtual students return to school for face-to-face instruction, all campuses will work to maintain a 15:1 student

FACE-TO-FACE LEARNINGStudents and teachers will attend class in-person, five days a week, with additional safety measures in alignment with state/federal guidelines and recommendations.

► Teachers will plan instruction that is quickly and easily transferable from face-to-face to virtual in the event of a temporary school closure due to COVID-19 spread.

► District-directed and campus-designed safety procedures will be implemented. ► Grades 6-12 students will be assigned schedules based on the course selections made last spring. ► All special education settings will be reviewed on an individual basis to maximize the health and safety of all

students within the classroom to meet the individual needs of the students which may include the provision of personal protective equipment, modifications to the classroom setting and review of the daily schedule.

GCCISD VIRTUAL LEARNING GCCISD virtual learning is a remote learning opportunity that will allow students to engage in high quality learning experiences, utilize GCCISD instructional resources and meaningfully connect with their teachers and other students. All activities will be designed to meet the needs of the student in the online environment through differentiated experiences that are consistent with those of their grade-level peers attending face-to-face.

► Teachers will teach virtual learning students from their classrooms or other assigned GCCISD facilities. ► In this setting, teachers also will provide instruction, learning resources and support through the use of Webex,

Google Classroom and/or SeeSaw. ► Parents will support students as a “learning coach” and ensure they have access to a device, a place to work and

are engaged in virtual learning activities. ► We will ensure open lines of communication between teachers, students, and parents as we work together to

ensure each student is academically and socially-emotionally future ready. ► Teachers will utilize the same curriculum as students who attend face-to-face instruction and will design strategies

for learning in the virtual environment. ► Grading will be consistent with the guidelines and practices used in all face-to-face instruction.

All students, including those wishing to work in the GCCISD virtual learning environment, must complete the Student Registration in TEAMS. Students preferring to participate in GCCISD virtual learning must also complete the registration for 100% Virtual At-Home Learning, which can be found in Parent Portal.

A transition from virtual learning to face-to-face learning may only occur at the beginning of a school year, grading period, or semester. If GCCISD campuses close for face-to-face instruction due to community health concerns or other unsafe circumstances during the school year, ALL students will be required to transition to virtual learning.

Virtual Synchronous Learning is defined as two-way, real-time, live instruction between teachers and students through the computer via Webex. Students enrolled in virtual learning will be assigned a virtual class schedule and must be available for live, synchronous instruction during each school day.

VIRTUAL SYNCHRONOUS LEARNING

► Students will follow the GCCISD Student Code of Conduct and dress code guidelines in all virtual environments. ► Students will attend class on time per their class schedule. ► Students should be prepared. Log in a few minutes early to each session. ► Students using their camera should make sure that their face is within camera view with an appropriate wall as the

background. ► Students should log in with a device that is fully charged or plugged into a power source. ► Students should participate responsibly. Virtually raise your hand to speak. ► Students should log into Webex using their preferred first name and legal last name. Attendance will be taken

daily during each class period. ► Students should begin each class ready to engage and learn. ► Students need a designated, distraction-free workspace to engage in learning. ► Students will participate in class activities, discussions and assignments. ► Students should type questions and responses in the Chat Box. ► Students should mute their microphone upon entry into class and remain muted unless otherwise instructed.

Virtual Asynchronous Learning is a curricular experience where students engage in the learning materials on their own time, interacting intermittently with the teacher via the computer or other electronic devices. In this setting, teachers will provide instruction, learning resources and support through the use of Google Classroom and SeeSaw.

VIRTUAL ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING

► Students will complete asynchronous activities assigned each day. ► Students will show proof of participation in daily virtual instruction by satisfactorily completing assignments to

demonstrate evidence of student learning (e.g., video, picture or activities submitted as lessons and/or completing assignments).

► Students and parents will communicate with the teacher when needing additional assistance, tutoring, etc.

GCCISD student expectations for asynchronous learning:

All student assignments will be submitted digitally to the online platform designated by the teacher(s). Photos and/or videos of hands-on and paper assignments can be uploaded into the Google Classroom or SeeSaw account.

► Be instructed with the same curriculum presented in the traditional classroom (same standards and sequence). ► Be engaged in instructional activities for the full school day. ► Complete work both online and offline. ► Complete work both independently and guided by the teacher. ► Have all assignments evaluated or graded. ► Regularly receive feedback on class work and progress. ► Engage in instructional conversations with teachers each week. ► Take the same assessments (tests).

Students in virtual learning should expect to:

English as a Second Language Instruction (ESL) in Virtual LearningStudents are placed in the Bilingual and ESL programs per the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) and with parent approval will continue to be served by teachers who hold the state required certifications. For the elementary bilingual program, teachers will be bilingual certified. For the elementary and secondary ESL program, ESL students will be scheduled with an ELA/ESL certified teacher.

Gifted and Talented Services in Virtual LearningStudents who have been formally identified as gifted/talented services will continue to receive those services in both learning environments. Students will complete assignments following their assigned schedule. Students will be taught by core content area teachers who have met the 30 state required GT professional development hours.

Grading in Virtual Learning Students in virtual learning will be evaluated with the same standards as students on campus, including the calculation of grade-point averages and class ranking. All assignments will be checked and evaluated according to the GCCISD grading policies and procedures outlined in the Uniform Grading Guidelines.

Intervention and Enrichment in Virtual LearningIntervention, enrichment and tutorial time will be scheduled regularly for students to best meet their academic needs. During this time, students may engage in assigned group activities, project-based learning activities, small group or individual instruction. Teachers will communicate their plan for the designated time with students.

504/Special Education Support in Virtual LearningEach student with a disability will be provided the Special Education/related services and/or 504 services identified in the student’s individualized education/504 plan. GCCISD is committed to meeting the unique needs of students with disabilities by ensuring the ARD/IEP or 504 Committees convene as needed to discuss needs, review progress and make individualized recommendations for our students.

Attendance in Virtual LearningClass participation is crucial to the success of any class. Participation means engaging in each class, completing the assigned tasks, asking questions about the tasks, offering ideas and responding to any discussion. Students participating in virtual learning will follow the same daily schedule as face-to-face students. Attendance will be taken daily for all students, including those participating in virtual learning. In order to be marked “present,” virtual learning students must be logged on and engaged in learning at the established attendance time.

It is important that students understand that virtual learning attendance is based on daily engagement, not solely the completion of assignments. State law TEC §25.092 and GCCISD Policy FEC (Local) and (Legal) still require students to attend at least 90% of their classes to receive credit and be promoted. Virtual attendance will count in the same manner as on-campus (face-to-face) attendance in satisfying this requirement.

With the Hybrid learning plan, elementary students will attend school every day and receive synchronous instruction for their assigned instructional day. In addition, students will complete asynchronous PE, Music, and Art classes from home when not in class.

Families that would like another option for learning in Goose Creek CISD, may choose to enroll their child in a 100% virtual learning class. This is open to students in grades PK-12. Instruction is provided by GCCISD teachers following one of the elementary school schedules above. All virtual students will follow a schedule that mirrors that of a student receiving instruction in a face-to-face classroom setting.

Goose Creek CISD is asking parents to select their learning choice as soon as possible to allow for adequate time for scheduling of students and staffing for both hybrid and virtual instruction. Parents may register their children by going to the Goose Creek CISD home page, www.gccisd.net and clicking on the 2020-2021 registration link. The deadline to select 100% virtual instruction is August 25, 2020.

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATIONIn conjunction with recommendations released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Goose Creek CISD has determined certain Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes require a portion of the course to be completed with an instructor on campus. These courses require specialized equipment, direct supervision of hands-on activities and/or specific materials and technology.

Students may be required to attend face-to-face instruction at the school in order to receive practice on skills or specialized equipment in order to successfully complete the course. There is not a predetermined number of minutes that students must attend to receive credit for the CTE course. However, each course instructor may require proficiency with skills as assessed in a face-to-face environment. Further communication from each CTE teacher requiring face-to-face instruction will follow this letter throughout the semester as needed for the individual course. Communication may be in the form of an email, letter, message in Google Classroom or other means by which a teacher or administrator will contact the student. Transportation to and from the CTE course which requires in-person skills practice is the responsibility of the student and family. Although the district will work diligently to accommodate the scheduling of the in-person visits, the district is unable to guarantee a certain time of day. Face-to-face meetings may take place anytime from 7 a.m. to 5 p..m. based on the needs of the students and availability of space and staff.

In the event that the student chooses to decline to attend possible future face-to-face skills lessons/assessments, the student will need to contact his/her counselor and request a schedule change.
