Our Covenant Agreement with Almighty God
As people of faith we covenant with each other and with the churches of our
North County community —
To become better informed about people of other races and cultures
that we may overcome the fears and misconceptions that exist
To consider how issues of racial prejudice and privilege
affect each person we come in contact with
To work to overcome the structures of our communities
that are racist
To work to erase the sins of racism and injustice
wherever they exist in our communities, and
To prayerfully heed Your call to embrace people of all colors, faiths,
economic and social backgrounds as our brothers and sisters.
“God has gathered together as one all those who believe in Jesus
and look on him as the author of salvation and the source of unity and peace.
God has established them as the Church so that for each and all,
the Church may be the visible sign of that saving unity.”
Lumen Gentium, Light of the Nations Constitution on the Church, Vatican Council II
All members of Holy Name of Jesus Parish
are invited to the annual North County Churches Uniting
Covenant Renewal Ceremony
to renew our commitment to working for Racial Harmony and Justice.
This year’s celebration will take place at the Lutheran Church of the Living Christ
(2725 Concord Drive, Florissant, Missouri, 63033) Just Off of New Halls Ferry Road
on
Sunday, November 17th at 3:00 pm
Renewing Our Covenant as a Member Church of
North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony & Justice For a number of years Catholic parishes of our Deanery, including Holy Name of Jesus Parish, have been members of North County Churches Uniting.
As people of faith many of our parishioners and pastoral leaders have committed themselves to an agreement with almighty God, with other churches, and with each other. This Covenant (at the left) envisions our community as a vibrant diverse area, where residents, schools, and businesses can flourish in an environment of dignity, justice, and racial harmony guided by these commonly held principles:
• God’s love is universal. — There are no exceptions.
• God loves each person unconditionally & calls us to do the same.
• God calls us to embrace people of all colors, races, & ethnic backgrounds
• Racism is harmful to individuals and destructive to communities. It is in opposition to God’s will.
• We manifest our faith by living and working in harmony and community.
I encourage all our parishioners to attend this year’s Covenant Renewal Ceremony at the Lutheran Church of the Living Christ. If you have not yet sign our Covenant Agreement, please do so today or this week. Signature sheets are available in the back of our parish church.
Our parish commitment is your personal commitment to prayer, to growth in knowledge and understanding, and to building relationships. Prayer fosters clear thinking. It defuses reactivity and negative emotions. Knowledge and understanding overpower ignorance and poor choices. Building relationships enriches understanding and fosters action on behalf of change. This Covenant celebration is an opportunity for doing all this ... in the name of Jesus!

Christ Light of the Nations Service Program Each week at CLN on Monday we have a group of 7th or 8th grade students that go out into the community to serve. This year we are serving at Vincent DePaul Church in the city that serves the homeless, The Missouri Veterans Home on Hwy 367 and Loaves and Fishes shelter and pantry for homeless families. After the students (who volunteer in groups of six or seven, the limit for my van) complete their service they write an evaluation of their experience. Sometimes I wonder if they are being touched by what they do but then I get a response like this! Question #3 Doing service at the veterans home is worthwhile for me because… One of the students, Jacob Rose stated… It helps me to realize a lot of things. The beauty of youth, the beauty of old age, the beauty of life and how fast life moves. We should enjoy life! Question #5 What do you think you’ll be like when you are their age? I hope that I’m full of life and happy and complete without many regrets! Sometimes we wonder if the students are being touched…I would say…YES, and so am I! Sincerely, Judy Krenn (CLN service coordinator)
