Dear Sisters and Brothers of St. Lucy,

The weekend of Jan 5th and 6th the Stewardship Committee conducted a registration drive to assist any-body interested in registering with St. Lucy and/or signing families up for donation envelopes and Parish-Pay, our online donation system.

The Stewardship Committee will be doing this on an ongoing basis about once a quarter as we found many people had questions about registration and giving options. It was a great way to meet the commu-nity, answer questions about donation options and keep our community database up to date and accurate.

We also introduced a new envelope type – an anonymous envelope that we track only by number. This allows a family to use envelopes without having to tell us their name or address. While this may seem like an odd thing to do, it actually serves a need as there are many reasons why a family may wish to remain anonymous but still desire to support the parish. The anonymous envelopes enable people to donate such that we can keep track of their donations and even is-sue them a tax report showing their donation history. We will continue to have these envelopes available in the church for anybody to pick up. Please see an usher if you would like one of these envelope boxes.

Here are the results from this past weekend: 2 people filled out volunteer forms; 30 people filled out NEW registration forms; 11 people told us they are interested in receiving envelopes; we received 2 change of address forms; 53 people picked up anonymous envelopes; and we had 13 new ParishPay signups. This is a tremendous response and we are very thankful to everybody who stopped by to register, sign up for envelopes or ParishPay, or just to chat.

I especially wish to thank the Volunteer Committee who organized volunteers to assist the Stewardship Committee. It was truly wonderful to see all the volunteers who showed up to help! Michael L. Wentz

The St Lucy Outreach office is extending their hours starting January 26th it will be open every second and fourth Saturday of the month from 10 am to noon.

You should have received by now a package containing all the relevant documentation associ-ated with this year’s campaign. This year’s Di-ocesan goal for St Lucy is $156,000, which is the same as the past two years. Please give your prayerful consideration to this important cam-paign. St Lucy and all other (53) parishes in the Diocese greatly benefit from the services we receive from the Diocese in the ar-eas of Vocations, Institute for Leadership in Ministry, Faith For-mation, and many more. God bless, Fr. Kevin & Mike Wentz

Safety Issues at St. Lucy’s

Recently, a young woman was assaulted along the driveway on the south side of the church after the 6 PM Mass by a young, clean-cut, Caucasian man wearing a baseball cap. She screamed and fought off the assailant who then fled on a bicycle. Parishioners nearby did not help her. She imme-diately phoned 911, and the Campbell Police arrived within 2 minutes. They told us that there have been 3 other such assaults in the past 3 months in Campbell by someone who fits the same description.

The parish and school administrations have reactivated the Safety Committee that met this past week to address safety on the entire parish campus. If you have suggestions for improving safety, please send an email to Mike Wentz or Sue Grover.

Please be alert to your surroundings when walking in dark areas. If we observe someone being harassed in any way and cannot help by personal intervention, we should immediately call 911 and begin shouting for help. We must act like the Good Samaritan (Luke 11:29-37) and not be paralyzed by fear.
