Co-Presidents Message
Happy Fall Ladies! I do hope you all had a happy and safe summer. It will be fun to share all the books you’ve
read, vacations taken and sunburns avoided stories when our functions resume this month. The Board Members
and Chairs have been very busy this summer getting our luncheon venues, Coffees, Games, Out and About
places arranged and I would like to issue a big “Thank You” to all who put in so many hours to make the
coming year lots of fun.
We have also worked on the October Auction and please take note that it will be in a new place this year. We
will be telling you more about that at the September Luncheon and bring some special items to the luncheon
with which to tease you. There are many new events such as a raffle, door prizes and mystery gifts, too. You
won’t want to miss it!
I would like for everyone to be thinking about their “White Elephant Contributions” and remember that the
Auction is our main fundraising effort for the coming year’s budget. So let’s all support our club and make it an
outstanding year!
Thanks in advance,
Rene

Member Autobiography
Sue Garratt
Although I was born in San Diego, I was not raised there. I am a proud “service
brat” and grew up in a variety of places including Germany, Portugal, and
several Southeastern states. By the time I was ready to enter college, I returned to my roots in San Diego where
I majored in German and minored in history and piano. I was able to return to Germany during this time as an
exchange student.
During my senior year, I met my future husband; we shared a common experience of both living in Europe
while we were growing up (his parents were English). We married in June, 1969, after I finished some teaching
commitments in SD, and spent the next 3+ years in Florida while he served in the Air Force (JAG) and I
attended Rollins College (grad school) while also teaching in a public school. We returned to San Diego in
1972, where we lived and raised our four children (2 girls and 2 boys). While the lure of the classroom was
always present, I began teaching piano, initially as a request from parents in the area, but became a full time job
(35-40 students/week) for the next 25+ years.
We moved to Colorado in 2012, to be closer to our youngest son and his family. The first time I visited CO as a
teenager, I told my mother that if I ever “had” to live away from the ocean, this is where I wanted to live. I
joined PNC last August and am so impressed with the varied activities and the eclectic group of people I have
met. I have been able to continue book clubs, quilting, tennis and piano here ….my favorite hobbies in SD.
And I like the snow……….
