Planning Process

Identify Concerns:Our main concern is our budget. We plan to create a vacation

that does not exceed the amount of money saved.Set a Goal:The goal for this life event is to travel and see the Caribbean

before we start the rest of our lives, trying to figure out what we want to do. The main goal is to make it a memorable vacation that we can look back on in the future. We will be able to say that we lived with no regrets, because we made a plan and accomplished the life event under budget. We will be able to truly say high school was the best times of our lives. Our goal is to embrace traveling the world before we head off to college and start the next chapter .

Planning Process

5

Form a Plan: Who: Madison Kelly and Megan Gebhard will be attending the

event. What: The event is a seven-night vacation on the Oasis of the

Seas cruise ship. Where: The cruise goes to three main stops in the Western

Caribbean. Labadee, Haiti; Falmouth, Jamaica; Cozumel, Mexico; Fort Lauderdale, Florida are the four ports involved with the cruise.

When: The flight arrives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday, June 8th, 2013. Our flight returns on Sunday, June 16th, 2013.

Why: To celebrate our accomplishments during our high school years.

How: We will put forth the effort and hard work now to save enough money in order to enjoy the luxuries of the cruise and the Caribbean.

Planning Process

6

Act:We will act on the life event plan by working numerous hours in

our jobs and setting aside 50% of all earnings toward the cruise. We will follow all of the steps of our planning process. Our financial plan was helpful to determine what our budget was so we could comparison shop and prioritize what goods and services we will choose for this event.

Follow Up:We will make a scrapbook with all the pictures from the cruise

and maintain contact with all the new people we meet on the cruise. This is to make sure we can never forget our senior year trip on the Oasis of the Seas. We will thank all of our friends and family for the support and advice used for planning this cruise.

Planning Process

7

Profile of Event

Goals: -To experience as many new things on the cruise as

possible. We want to do things that we would be to scared to do on a regular basis, such as trying octopus or other extravagant food, or swimming with sharks .

-To experience new cultures around the world. We want to meet as many people as possible and hear all about the differences in life as you travel across the globe.

-To enjoy the breath-taking Caribbean, and not go over budget saved for our senior year trip.

Graduation Caribbean Cruise

9

Needs WantsCruise fare which

includes food and roomMeans of travel to and

from Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The role of needs should be accounted for first in the comparison shopping because they are necessary for the event to take place.

Souvenirs to remember the cruise

Shore excursionsThe role of wants should

be accounted for if and only if we have left over money from our budget once all the needs are paid for.

Needs Vs. Wants

10

Role of Values and Priorities To do shore excursions that are time consuming,

inexpensive, and activities we have not experienced before.

To pick a ship that has many activities to do aboard at sea.

To purchase a cheap, direct, morning flight. To select a time of year that is sunny and cheap for

a cruise. To elect a cruise line with the highest customer

satisfaction. To present personal opportunities to develop our

personality and prepare us for our adult lives

11

The financial challenge in planning the event is that the cruise we choose is the biggest, newest ship. The price for the cruise fare will be expensive.

We also choose to do many shore excursions at the ports.

Here is how we will address the financial challenges:

We will save money by selecting a cheaper cruise room.

We both have full time jobs set up for the summer of 2012.

- 40 hours per week and 12 weeks in the summer making $8.00 an hour gives us $3,840 each over the summer.

During our senior year, our jobs will become part time.

- 20 hours per week working 40 weeks gives us $6,400 each during our senior school year.

If we save 50% of earnings from our jobs, we will put away $5,120 each for this event.

Total budget = $10,240

RESOURCE SUMMARYWe have learned that it is essential to use a variety of

resources to obtain as much information on a subject as possible. Resources are plentiful, you just have to search for them. We believe that you must use many resources to fully understand the subject. Sticking to one resource can limit knowledge on the topic. We also learned some resources are biased and can sway your opinion. Resources can be good sources of advice in tough decision making processes. If you are comparison shopping a service, you can use resources to determine pros and cons. Overall this project could not have been completed without the help of resources.

Personal Interviews

•Bonnie Kelly stated, “Royal Caribbean is super awesome and I never had a bad experience with it! I love Royal Caribbean because the service is always top notch and it's a lot classier. Carnival just isn't as high-class.”•Derek Gebhard commented, “The Oasis of the Seas is the best ship I have ever been on by far. The food on the ship is phenomenal. Make sure you try the strawberry bisque at the Royal Promenade!”

Magazine Time Magazine interviewed the CEO of Royal Caribbean. Adam Goldstein said, “Oasis is a giant leisure machine, with more spas, pools, bars and activities than you could probably hit in a week. Royal Caribbean calls itself the Nation of Why Not.”

Movie The movie Jack and Jill advertised traveling aboard the Allure of the Seas through Royal Caribbean. This ship is identical to the Oasis of the Seas.

Book Rachel Hawthorne wrote Caribbean Cruising which is a book about 18 year old Lindsey Darnell who travels on a cruise to the Caribbean. Many ideas of activities for our event came from reading this book.
