PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Watch for the new thing I am going to
do. It is happening already - you can
see it now! I will make a road through
the wilderness and give you streams of
water there. Even the wild animals will
honor me; jackals and ostriches will
praise me when I make rivers flow in
the desert to give water to my chosen
people. They are the people I made for
myself, and they will sing my praises!"
(Isaiah 43:19-21, Good News Version)
Last fall as the Congregational Leader-
ship Development (CLD) team was pre-
paring to embark on their journey of
learning on behalf of Trinity United
Methodist Church, I used the above
scripture lesson from Isaiah to describe
the intent of CLD in my newsletter arti-
cle. At that time I said, "I am con-
vinced that Trinity is poised for won-
derful new things to happen." Guess
what? I am still so convinced!
The Congregational Leadership Devel-
opment (CLD) team, which has been
comprised of: Patti Edwards, Ron and
Joyce Ayers, David Armstrong, Tia
Durrant and myself, has completed the
six month course with Rev. Steve Ross
and District Superintendent Rev. Kim
Fields. Our job wasn't to make a new
thing happen for Trinity, our goal was,
and still is to shine a light on the path of
the new thing that God is ready to do
and perhaps reveal new ways for this
congregation to move forward together
loving God and neighbor.
So we've read the books -
Christianity After Religion by Diana
Butler Bass
I Refuse to Lead a Dying Church by
Paul Nixon
Real Good Church: How our church
came back from the dead, and yours can,
too by Rev. Molly Phinney Baskette
This I Believe by Jay Allison
Leadership & Organization by Steve
Ross
We've gone to all 6 of the day long
classes -
...and will now be entering into a time of
listening, prayer and discernment through
the summer. The CLD team will be con-
ducting one-2-one listening sessions (us
listening to you) for the purpose of look-
ing for patterns of excitement and move-
ment of the Holy Spirit in the congrega-
tion. One-2-one listening sessions aren't
exactly an interview; more of a conversa-
tion, since we won't have a specific list of
questions. When CLD reports the results
of what we have heard through the sum-
mer, we won't be using any names, be-
cause we are looking for patterns rather
then individual data. If you are interested
in participating in a one-on-one listening
session (they take about 45 minutes)
please let me know so I can set you up
with a team member at a time a location
convenient for both of you.
Thank you for your ongoing prayers and
patience as the CLD team continues it's
work on behalf of Trinity UMC.
Blessings,
Reverend Ruth

TRINITY BUILDING
RESTORATION COMMITTEE
The Trinity Restoration Committee has met and reviewed the Trustees existing in-
formation (a great starting point). We are looking for additional members including
an Architect on our committee. There is a workshop in Pocatello for historic ma-
sonry workers, hosted by Idaho Heritage Trust and our point of contact is Katherine
Kirk. Trinity Episcopal Church in Pocatello is also going through the process of re-
storing a historic masonry structure and as such the workshop is May 15 -16; two
full 8-hour days and we are looking for a Trinity member to attend.
I am writing to see if you would be interested in attending this meeting? Your atten-
dance and sharing of your notes would help us to learn what to expect from qualified
workers in the future. Overall, we want to be able to differentiate between normal
aging vs. what needs prompt fixing concerning our stone and masonry. Please con-
tact Nancy Stewart for further information.

REGIONAL COUNCIL FOR
CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES
Members of the Island Park Ministry,
Little Church of the Pines, attended and
gave a brief overview of the history of
the chapel and the growth of its programs
over the years. A log chapel was first
constructed in 1940 and was used for
community worship and for services of
the Catholic and LDS faiths. In 1968,
regular summer services began for Prot-
estants in the area with regular winter
services beginning in 1987. In 2010, a
project to add bathrooms, kitchen, office
and full basement was undertaken and
was completely paid for in 2 years. Now
the congregation supports several out-
reach programs and regular attendance
averages 100. The members encourage
RCCM member churches to use the facil-
ity for retreats and other activi-
ties. RCCM member churches support
the summer services; Trinity UMC will
participate in the service on July 12th.
FISH - 787 school supply orders were
filled during the 2014-15 school year. A
successful diaper drive was completed.
Needs - travel-size packages of diaper
wipes. FISH is seeking a person with
graphic and power point skills to serve
on the board or on an as-needed basis. IF Community Food Bank - the food
bank role is transitioning; a full report
will be given at the May RCCM board
meeting.
Lenten Series - approximate $2000 was
received in offerings during the Lenten
Series. The gift will be presented to the
Military Affairs Committee at its May
meeting.
Soup Kitchen - There will be an Open
House on June 30 to celebrate the 30th
anniversary of the Soup Kitchen. Idaho
Gives is on May 7 this year. Please see
the included flier on how you can help
with this.
National Day of Prayer - There will be
a Prayer Breakfast on May 7 at 7 AM at
First Presbyterian Church. Churches are
encouraged to hold a prayer service at
noon on May 7th. Due to other sched-
uled events, Trinity will not be holding a
prayer service at noon that day.
Vacation Bible School - it was sug-
gested that member churches may want
to support an ecumenical Vacation Bible
School in late August; some ideas were
to have it at a local park, to hold it on
successive weekends, to involve parents
and families.
Youth Ministry - brief discussion of
combining efforts at providing a youth
ministry.
CAMPING OPPORTUNITIES Summer 2015—For all ages
There are many opportunities for chil-
dren, youth, adults and families to par-
ticipate in various church camps at lots of
different locations. Here are a few of the
camps and locations that are the closest
to Idaho Falls.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
Eight United Methodist Women traveled
to Rupert, Idaho on April 11 for an Every
Member Enrichment Event (EMEE)
where they learned and studied about the
importance of water, not only now, but
back in Biblical times. The Sage District
executive board planned the meeting
down to a gnat's eyebrow so everything
moved along smoothly. Several women
from Trinity UMW had completed the
UMW reading program and received cer-
tificates. The Unit also received the
highest reward for achieving goals set.
The program at the May Unit meeting on
Thursday, May 14, will be presented by
Joni Pace on the Spiritual Growth Mis-
sion u study "The Call: Living Sacra-
mentally, Walking Justly". At each
meeting, the group learns about mission
activities all over the world where chil-
dren, women and youth are being minis-
tered to. A social issue that is of great
concern is Trafficking. There was a big
presence of United Methodist Women at
the Super Bowl in support of those who
are victims.
All women are invited to attend the
United Methodist Women unit meetings
on the second Thursday of the month,
except the summer months. There are
also two circles where women are wel-
come: the 4th Wednesday in the evening
and the 4th Thursday at 1:00 p.m..
The Trinity United Methodist Women
continue to donate to an "unrummage"
fund; this is in lieu of having rummage
sales. At one time, there was a spring
and a fall rummage sale. Then there was
a fall rummage sale. Well, as the mem-
bers were less able to sort, sell, pack and
distribute the items, and the men were
happy to not have to load up and haul the
left overs, there is now this unrummage
"event" that continues all year.

MISSIONS
It's that time for Mothers' Day Blankets
through Church World Service. Blankets
give warmth, comfort, shelter and safety
for people who have been in disasters of
many kinds. For $5.00, a blanket can be
"purchased" in honor or in memory of
someone, or just because you know that
someone, somewhere will be happier for
the blanket to call his or her own. There
will be order blanks in the bulletin and
the Trinity Times. Please give the name
of the person you are honoring or re-
membering, your name, address and
phone number. Recipients receive a let-
ter telling of them being remembered
along with a little about the wonders of a
blanket given in their honor or memory.
If you have prayer chain requests, please
send them to [email protected]
or call 208-522-5827.
Blessings,
Sharon Eld
