Miss Unkraut and Miss Johnson both have created a science fair for their students to
receive the opportunity to research and investigate scientific questions. They said
they wanted students to get to learn how to work in a group, collaborate, and prob-
lem solve. They also wanted to give students a chance to show off their creativity
and interests. What do they do in this class? Good question! The 6th and 7th graders
will create a scientific question that they will come up with; then the teacher will
pair them to a group of other students that have the same interests, so they can be a
7th grader from Johnson or a 6th grader from Unkraut. Then they put them in groups
so they can test their scientific question. In their groups THEY are in charge of cre-
ating a middle ground for ideas for their experiment and then analyzing the data and
forming conclusions.
The students said they enjoy the enrichment class be-cause they do more hands-on
educational things that will help them lat-
er.

This year’s art class is extremely creative!
They do projects called W.O.W. works,
which stands for Wonderful Original
Works of Art. These W.O.W. works are the
students own projects that are inspired by
whatever they want to create. The 8th grade
is doing projects based off of statistics and
creating anything to represent it.
A student named Jace Gardener explained
his project and how it related to the statistic
theme. “I am doing a chart for what I do in
a day.” We asked him what kinds of things
he does in a day and he replied with, “I go
to the Y and play basketball, play Fortnite
and 2K, and ride dirt bikes.” Jace’s chart is
a pie chart showing the statistic theme by
dividing the pie
chart to show how
much he does
these things dur-
ing the day.
Another student
named Lorelei
Warren explained
what she was
doing, but it was-
n’t statistic
themed. “I’m making an invention. It’s
called the plag, it’s a pillow bag for the
homeless.” Lorelei is not just making beau-
tiful art, she is helping the community and
the people who don’t have homes.
Alexis Tucker is a student who is very cre-
ative using the statistic theme. “For each
book I’m going to try and make people,
like each one a different person.” Alexis
believes people should be treated the same,
and it doesn’t matter what their shape or
size is.
Josie Auer is a
student who
made a picture
on what it may
look like inside
your skittles
bag! This sweet
treat comes in
an abundance of
different colors
and is loved by
many. “I’m doing a skittles thing with sta-
tistics, and how many skittles are normally
in a bag, or not normally in a bag but an
average of what colors may be in the
bag.”
It looks like there are statistics not only in
your everyday life, but also in your sweet
day, November 22nd (That’s the
big game against the Charleston
Trojans!). Make sure to check the
“Wildcat Nation” board outside of
the Cafeteria door for all of the
upcoming sports events taking

Michaelangelo: What is your favorite part about being a
teacher?”
Miss Johnson: “My favorite part has to be that there is
never a dull moment, and it doesn’t matter who your
teaching or which group of kids it is; they always keep
you on your toes.”
Michaelangelo: “Why did you want to become a teacher?”
Miss Johnson: “Because my mom was a teacher and I
remember how excited she was to be a science teacher. I
was surprised how interesting it was to be a middle school
teacher.”
Michaelangelo: “What is your favorite part about summer
break?”
Miss Johnson: “My favorite part is hands down, is sleep-ing in and getting caught up on reading books.”

Mare Barrow’s world is di-vided by blood; red and sil-vers. Mare’s blood is red, destined to serve the royal and all-powerful silvers. But
as Mare accidently succeeds in a mistake beyond com-pare, she may get a taste of the powers silvers have al-
ways known. Because in a
world of deadly wires, Mare might be the electricity that could test a kingdom and slowly bring it to its knees. In
this thrilling series-starter, Victoria Aveyard pulls to-gether a web of lies and twists so thick that even pow-ers over blood may be the
one downfall to an empire of fire.

visible people in our community?
Who are the people, we as a socie-
ty, take for granted?" The quote
resonated with students in differ-
ent ways, which led students to
take initiative in different service
projects. The classroom is current-
ly divided into four groups based
on student passion, interest, and
strengths. The different service
projects are a video to recognize
"invisible" people in Mattoon, a
coin drive for The Haven, a drive
of some sort (possibly coats), and
publicity planning. These projects
were ideas from students and will
be completely student led. Each
student felt a connection to the
characters and felt motivated to
serve others through acts of kind-
ness.
Miss Scott's enrichment read An
Invisible Thread by Laura Schroff
during first quarter. The book is
based on a true story about a boy
named Maurice, who met a wom-
an named Laura as he was pan-
handling on the streets to get mon-
ey for food. This was the start of a
life changing relationship between
the two. As the class read, they
focused on a quote from another
book, Piecing Me Together by
Renee Watson. "Who are the in-
