PAWS of Grays Harbor Protects Dogs and Cats Until United with Family
To all our supporters,
As we say goodbye to 2019 and welcome the new
decade, let’s reflect on another wonderful year for
PAWS of Grays Harbor! This annual report is to show
our achievements of the year, and what we are
looking forward to in the future.
We were able to help so many dogs and cats in need
this year. We had 588 successful adoptions to loving
homes, helped 414 owned pets avoid unplanned litters
through our spay/neuter voucher program, and helped
countless community pets with basic pet care at our
shelter.
We had some projects completed in 2019 as well. We
were able to finish our dog play yards with the help of
The Seabrook Community Foundation, who funded
the project in full! We also completed our main room
cat enclosure. Now our cats are able to run and play
during our open hours. This has greatly increased
their happiness and wellbeing while staying with us
at the shelter!
PAWS of Grays Harbor has been located and
operating in Aberdeen for 47 years. There is still such
a great need for animal welfare assistance in our
community. Grays Harbor is a brighter and happier
place because of all the services PAWS of Grays
Harbor provides, and it would not be possible without
your support! Thank you!
Your support matters,
Dana Erickson

LARGEST NO KILL SHELTER IN GRAYS HARBOR
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO
BE NO KILL?
When discussing no kill, the
numbers matter. Every life is a
number and every life counts.
There are two common ways to
determine if a shelter or
rescue is no kill.
SAVE RATE
An organization must have a Save Rate of more than
90% of their animals to be considered no kill. A Save
Rate is determined by the ratio of animals with “Live
Outcomes” divided by the number of “Total Outcomes.”
HUMAN POPULATION BENCHMARK
To be considered no kill, an organization must have a Human
Population Benchmark (HPB) of no more than 2 animals per
every 1,000 people yearly . The HPB is determined by the ratio
of animals “Without Live Outcomes” yearly divided by the
number of 1,000 people in the community population.
OUR POLICY
PAWS of Grays Harbor is to only euthanize pets not able to be rehabilitated; those which are
hopelessly suffering or dangerous to other people or pets. This decision is never taken lightly. The
numbers above represent every animal that passes while in our care.
We share these numbers in hopes of giving people a better understanding of what it means to be a
no kill shelter. Every one of these lives matters to us.
OUR HPB
2019—0.02 PER 1000
2018—0.78 PER 1000
