PRESIDENT'S PAGE

Dear Friends:

We have been busy these past few months recruiting people to help with "The Genie", and with the other committees necessary to keep the membership informed of' what is happening. "The Genie" came together faster this quarter because of the nimble finlers of our typists, Ethel Krause Wanda Head, and Margie Marshall. Paul Reinowski is our printer. Thank you all for your help. However, we can always use help with other tasks. If any of our members have a few houra, or a day, around printing time, pleaae call me, I'M sure we can use the time.

For thoae of you using the excellent reference material at the Shreve Memorial Library Genealogy Room, you will find a member of the orsanization to help. Mrs. Willie Farley 18 there almost every day. Mrs. Trenkin McClain is at the library almost every Sunday afternoon.

The year of celebratins tbe Shreveport Sesquicentennial Anniversary is alIDOst over. As a fitting close to the year, we have asked CoL H. F. Means of La~d' sEnd Plantadontospeak at O\Ir June .14 meeting to tell us about the involvement of the Mansfield area and Land's End in the Civil War.

The four Saturday seminar classes will start June 21, at the Shreve Me~ orial Library. The prosram is listed abewhere in "The Genie". Mrs. Norma Pontiff Evanaof BeaWllont, Texas will present a workshop on "So You Want to Write Your F811I11y History 'f' Mrs. Evans has published several family history books. "Pontiff Patha: 200 Years in Douisiana" is her third book. She is a member of the Southeast Texas Genealogical Society, and apeaks before civic sroups and senealogical societies. Mrs. Evans is the manager of a fabric store, "Ye Olde Sewing Shoppe". When I spoke with her in May, she was sewing dresses for her two teenage daughters. Mrs. Evans will do private research for interested clients. Mr. Evans is from West Virginia, and they consider this their area of expertise. He will assist in the presentation on July 12 at 2 P.M. at the Werner Park Memorial Building. The workshop is part of our summer seminar •

• CUr "Book Fair" will be Saturday, August 9 at Werner Park. Plan to attend. You may find some books to help you in your search.

The Executive Committee is trying to plan programs we feel will be of interest to you. If you have any aUlleations of topics or have heard of a speaker of interest, please eal~ ...

Sincerely,

by Fern Ainsw:>rth (With a lot of help fran DamJn Veach)

'!his article was promised to appear in the January Genie, but

my list needed updating. I contacted DalTOn Veach, who had just publish

gave Ire pennission to use the rna terial in his artie le and, as his is up

dated, I shall use it.

to further the goals of the archives. He is a staunch supporter of Ark
