March’s arrival on Monday was most welcome — and so was the reopen- ing of the Southold IGA. The new and improved store is a ray of sunshine on Main Street after a particularly rough winter here on the North Fork. As you can imagine, the harsh win- ter combined with the equally harsh economy has caused the shelves at North Fork Parish Outreach’s food pantry to deplete very quickly. Thanks to the efforts of the St. Patrick Church Youth Group, the shelves have been restocked. Members of the group ap- pealed to shoppers at King Kullen in Cutchogue last Saturday and six bas- kets of groceries, and a substantial amount of cash, was donated. Thanks to all who contributed. Community Lenten worship services will be held Wednesdays at 7 p.m. as follows: March 10, Southold United Methodist Church; March 17, Shiloh Baptist Church; and March 24, First Universalist Church. All are invited to Easter services April 4 at 6:30 a.m. at Founders Landing. Jack Webster’s name was mistaken- ly omitted from last week’s listing of CYO basketball players. Congratula- tions, Jack, on your contribution to the team’s success. When the Harlem Wizards basket- ball team comes to town, it’s always a good time. Watch them take on the “Double-0-Settlers” (K-12 fac- ulty and staff) Thursday, March 11, in the Southold High School gym- nasium. Purchase tickets — $8 for students and $10 for adults — at Southold Pharmacy or the high school computer lab. All ages pay $12 at the door. Proceeds benefit the athletic association. The Friends of Southold Free Library are sponsoring a bus trip to New York City on March 31.
