About this document
1 About this documentThis document describes what kind of statistical data an RNC sends to Traffica. It
includes information on which report types can be subscribed as well as the counters. It
is a convenient reference for the Traffica system administrator as well as the Traffica
user.
This document relates to Traffica release Z5.2 and RNC releases RN3.0, RN4.0 and
RN5.0.

2 Summary of Changes
2.1 Changes in Z5.2Traffica release Z5.2 supports RN5.0 and RU20.
The possible values of field Rnc_Atm_Traf_Stat_Link_Typein the ATM VC Traffic report
have changed: the descriptions of values 4 (IPOA-SL) and 5 (IPOA_UD) have changed
and value 7 (IPCONN) has been added. This change relates to RNC release RN4.0,
RN5.0.
2.2 Changes in Z5
All references to NOKIA in predefined graphs, graph sets, graph categories and time
classes have been replaced with TRAF.
Traffica release Z5 supports RN4.0.

4 TermsThe following table presents the most important Traffica terms used in this document. If
a term does not appear in this section, see Glossary.
Concept Description
CCMA (Clear Code Matrix) A tree structure which consists of nodes and counters, and
functions as a data storage for the counter values post-pro-
cessed from RTTs.
When an RTT arrives in Traffica, the CCMA is scanned through
and the counters are updated.
For information on the CCMA, see Traffica Principles. For
detailed information on the predefined CCMA, see section
Clear code matrix.
Cause code Code that identifies how an event or transaction has ended.
Database A data storage for all RTTs in the TNES. The database is auto-
matically cleaned up and oldest data is deleted. Database
capacity depends on the size of the hard disk and the volume
of network traffic.

For more information, seeAdministering Traffica.
Data source The origin of the information that Traffica receives. A data
source is typically a network element. When RTTs are redi-
rected from a TNES to a TS, the TNES is a data source for the
TS.
IDS (Internal Data Structure) Traffica forwards an RTT report as such into Trafficas IDS.
Once the RTT report data is in the IDS, the f ields in the reportare mapped with corresponding IDS fields. Traffica uses the
data in the RTT reports, which are in the IDS, for updating the
CCMA. Traffica stores the reports from the IDS into the data-
base. For more information, see chapter RTT report descrip-
tions.
IDS field An IDS field is mapped with a corresponding field in an RTT
report.
Lower Traffica A Traffica that is lower in the hierarchy. A TNES is a lower
Traffica for a TS.
Network Element (NE) General term, used for all NEs that Traffica can be connected
to, for example, Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN),
Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) or DX HLR (HLR).
Time Class A root item in the CCMA tree structure which acts as a con-
tainer of the time resolution(s) and CCMA members.

Time resolution A time resolution gives meaning to a Time Class. A time reso-
lution defines how long a time the counters in that particular
tree branch are accumulated before the counters are reset andhow many time slices are stored in the memory as history data.
When you define a time resolution you define two things: the
duration of one time slice and the number of these time slices.
The duration of one time slice can be, for example, one second,
minute, or hour. The duration of the time slice defines how long
the data accumulates.
Time resolutions are user-definable, for example, 1*1 day or
30*1 minute.
Time resolution is a range of time slices, and for the user it is
typically visualised as a range of bars in a graph.
During the time defined in the time resolution, the counters in
the current time slice are updated in real-time. When thedefined time for one time slice is over, the t ime slice is either
stored as historical data or deleted, and a new t ime slice is
started.
Traffic News cl ient A tool that can be used for database queries and can be
installed into an office PC.
Traffica Network Element
Server (TNES)
TNESs collect the RTT reports and these reports are stored in
the Traffica database.
Traffica Server (TS) A central point in the Traffica system, it is connected to all
TNESs. TS acts as a server for Traffica clients.
Upper Traffica A Traffica that is higher in the hierarchy. For example, a TS is
an upper Traffica for a TNES.

Leg Logical call specific connection between an RNC and another network
element. For example, each call with signalling radio bearer in the Cell-
DCH state with one cell in the active set has one leg on the Iub inter-
face. Once AMR RAB is added, there will be one more leg on the Iub
interface and another leg on the Iu interface. If a cell from another BTS
is added to the active set, that will further increase the number of legs.

6 Principles of RTT report processingThe RNC sends event data real-time traffic (RTT) reports to Traffica. The data which is
sent to Traffica from the RNC consists of the reports described in the following sections:
6.1 Status report (RNC_RN_STAT)
These events are reported at 60 second intervals as long as at least one report type is
subscribed for the Traffica server in question. The status report indicates overload situ-
ations in the Traffica-RNC interface. It does not contain any monitoring information.
For descriptions of the fields in this report, see Status report (RNC_RN_STAT).
6.2 RRC/RAB report (RNC_RRC_RAB_RTT)
The RRC/RAB report is a UE specific report that is sent in real t ime by RRCPRB imme-
diately as the triggering event happens.The report includes the IMSI. 3GPP RANAP
release causes are used by the report. This report can be used for monitoring the
service level.
The triggers for the creation of this report are, for example:
RRC connection setup is successfully completed
RRC connection setup failure occurs
RRC connection is released
RAB is successfully established
RAB setup failure occurs
RAB is released
Only an SRNC produces RRC/RAB reports.

6.3 Soft handover failure report (RNC_SHO_FAIL_RTT)
These events are reported by the HA3PRB program block immediately as they
appear.The events that trigger this report are, for example:
Soft handover branch addition (1A) failure occurs
Soft handover branch replacement (1C) failure occurs
Only an SRNC produces Soft handover failure reports.

6.4 External AAL2 transport resource report
(RNC_AAL2_EXT_STAT)
These events are reported by the ATYPRB program block at 60 second intervals. The
events are reported as long as at least one Traffica server has subscribed to a specific
External AAL2 transport resource Traffic Report.
The usage of RNC external ATM interface resources (AAL2UP) can be monitored withthis report. External transport resource usage can be followed in detail for different traffic

The peak/average rate of AAL2 path Number of successful and rejected AAL2 connection requests
Number of active AAL2 connections

6.5 Internal AAL2 transport resource report
(RNC_AAL2_INT_STAT)
These events are reported by the ATYPRB program block at 60 second intervals. The
events are reported as long as at least one Traffica server has subscribed to a specific
Internal AAL2 transport resource traffic Report. The usage of ATM resources inside
RNC computer units can be monitored with this report. The allocated resources for
DMCU and A2SU units can be followed in detail for different traffic types (common chan-
nels, SRB, RT, NRT DCH connections (interactive/background) and HSPA connec-
tions). The events that trigger the creation of this report include, for example:
Max/Avg rate of PQ (HW) (UL and DL separately)
Max/Avg rate of PQ (CAC) (UL and DL separately)
Bandwidth of PQ (CAC)
Number of successful and rejected AAL2 connection requests
Number of active AAL2 connections

6.6 ATM VC traffic report (RNC_ATM_TRAF_STAT)
These events are reported by the ATYPRB program block at 60 second intervals. The
events are reprorted as long as at least one Traffica server has subscribed to a specific
ATM VC traffic Report. The ATM traffic amount in RNC external ATM interfaces of all
types can be monitored with this report. The events that trigger the creation of this report
include, for example:
Total ATM cell count per VCC (UL and DL separately)
ATM VCC bandwidth (PCR or MDCR value)
For descriptions of the fields in this report, seeATM VC traffic report
(RNC_ATM_TRAF_STAT).
6.7 Call resource handling report (RNC_CRH_STAT)
These events are reported by the ATYPRB program block at 60 second intervals. The
events are reprorted as long as at least one Traffica server has subscribed to a specific
Call resource handling Traffic report. The leg setup performance and the number of GTP
tunnels can be monitored with this report. The events that trigger the creation of this
report include, for example:

6.8 Call resource error code report (RNC_CRE_STAT)
These events are reported by the ATYPRB program block at 60 second intervals if some
call handling errors have occurred. The events are reported as long as at least one
Traffica server has subscribed to a specific Call resource error code Traffic Report. If
there have been no errors, the report is not sent. The TOP 10 error codes seen in leg
setup by RM2PRB can be monitored with this report.

6.9 Heartbeat report (RNC_HEARTBEAT)
The purpose of the Heartbeat report is to keep the RNC and Traffica continuously
informed if the connection between them is operational. The sending interval is 10
seconds. The content of the Heartbeat report contains the information which reports
have been subscribed to Traffica from the RNC.
6.10 Packet Call statistics report (RNC_PS_CALL_STAT)
In this context "Packet Call" means a data transfer session using DCH, HS-DSCHor E-DCH channels, starting from a successful capacity allocation (AC, BTS, trans-
mission, RNC-internal) and ending in a dedicated resource release (for example,
transfer to FACH/PCH, DCH 0/0, RAB release, outgoing relocation, HHO, ISHO). In
this context, data transfer in FACH state is not counted as a Packet Call.
This report is not UE-specific but provides information on cell level.
These events are reported at 60 second intervals as long as at least one Traffica
server has subscribed to a specific Packet Call statistics Traffic report. The following
Packet Call related summary statictics can be monitored with this report:
Packet Call setup attempts
Packet Call setup failures (separated into distinct failure counters, for example, due
to AC, due to BTS, due to transport) Packet Call allocations (successful setups) classified by requested and allocated
channel type (HS-DSCH/E-DCH, HS-DSCH/DCH, DCH/DCH)
Packet Call normal releases
Packet Call abnormal releases

6.11 Packet Call failure report (RNC_PS_CALL_FAIL)
In this context "Packet Call" means a data transfer session using DCH, HS-DSCH or E-

7 Real-time monitoring
7.1 Clear code matrixTraffica contains a predefined counter tree, the Clear code matrix (CCMA). There are
three time classes in the CCMA: 1 Day, 24 Hours and 30 Minutes.
The time class 1 Day collects data cumulatively for one day. The time class is reset
every midnight 00:00 and counters are initialized. The counters then update cumula-
tively during the current day.
The time class 24 Hours collects data hourly for the last 24 hours. There are separate
counters for each hour for the last 24 hour period. Counters are reset and initialized at
the beginning of each hour, for example at 12:00, 13:00, 14:00 and so on.
The time class 30 Minutes collects data minutely for the last 30 minutes. There are
separate counters for each minute for the last 30 minute period. Counters are reset andinitialized every minute, for example 12:00, 12:01, 12:02 and so on. For example at
12:00, there will be minutely counters available until 11:30 historically.

7.2 Real-time graphs
Nokia Siemens Networks supplies predefined Graph Categories and Sets with Traffica.
The division of graphs into Categories and Sets facilitates fast access to the data. The
contents of the predefined Graph Categories and some of the Graph Sets are given
below. Each predefined Graph Set consists of a number of graphs. The actual contentsof the graphs are given in the Traffica user interface. To access the contents information,

place the cursor on the graph title. A ToolTip appears with information about the graph
contents. To find out which part of the CCMA provides the data for the graph, click with
the right mouse button on the graph to open a pop-up menu and select Properties.
7.2.1 Graph categories and graphs sets
All graph categories consist of a number of graph sets, which, in turn, include a number
of graphs. This Traffica release contains the following Graph Categories:
The graphs in the sets of the 1 Day Graph Category are based on the 1 Day CCMA Time
Class. The Time Class 1 Day accumulates the data starting from midnight when the
counters are initialised. In the CCMA, 1 Day is defined as follows: count = 1, interval =
86400 seconds, which equals to 24 hours. In other words, there is one counter for 24
hours.
The graphs in the sets of the 24 Hours Graph Category are based on the TRAF RNC,
24 Hours CCMA Time Class. The Time Class accumulates the data starting frommidnight when the counters are initialised. In the CCMA, 24h is defined as follows: count
= 24, interval = 3600 seconds which equals to 1 hour. In other words, there are 24
counters for each hour. Data in graphs is presented in one-hour slices.
The graphs in the sets of the 30 Min Graph Category are based on the time resolution
of the TRAF RNC, 30 Minutes CCMA Time Class. This time resolution is defined as
follows: count = 30, interval = 60, that is, 30 times one minute. The data in the graphs is
presented in one-minute slices.
The TRAF/Preconfigured Set Repository includes all predefined Graph Sets. When you
select the TRAF/Preconfigured Set Repository, all Graph Sets are listed in the options
menu and, thus, you can access all graphs in all Categories.
The User Set Repository is reserved for users' own Graph sets.
