PHC Jaycees Golf TournamentThe 21st Annual Paris Henry County Jaycees Golf Tournament is set for this Saturday October 14th. The golf tour-nament is a 4 person scramble at the Paris County Club with a shotgun start at 10am. Registration begins at 9am, entry fee is $300 and only $280 if paid by Wednesday October 11th. Fee in-cludes green fees, golf cart, goodie bag and lunch. Mulligans will be available for $20 per team and $5 per person. Joe Mahan Ford will once again sponsor a hole in one vehicle give-away. Prizes up to 4 places and pay based on number of teams that enter. There are also prizes for closet to the pin and longest drive. All proceeds benefit the Paris Henry County Jaycees Children’s Shopping Tour held in December. For more information call Josh “Smokey” Taylor at 336-1328. Rain date will be October 28th.
4th Annual Battle of Paris Landing Civil War Event The Paris Landing Tourism League will sponsor the 4th Annual Battle of Paris Landing Civil War Living History and Reenact-ment October 20-22 with the Chili Cook Off on Saturday October 21st. The event is free admission and free parking and begins Friday October 20th with Civil War Demonstrations, vendors, and local historians on site to tell about the battle. Saturday October 21st the vendor camp will be open at 9am with food, arts and relics, and more. Infantry, Cavalry, and Artillery demonstrations will go on every hour with a night firing of the cannons at dusk Saturday evening. Sunday there will be a church service under the large pavilion, hay rides, and cannon firings
every hour as well. The chili cook-off will be held Saturday and categories include chili with beans and chili without beans. Entry fee is $25 and no prepack-aged seasonings or seasoned beans can be used. Participants must name their chili and cook 1 gallon of it for judging purposes. Heat sources may be used, but no open fires are permitted. Meat must be cooked on site. 1st place in the chili cook-off wins $100, 2nd $75, 3rd $50, and best name wins $25. Salvation Army Angel Tree Interviews The Salvation Army Angel Tree interviews will be held Wednesday October 18th from 10am to Noon on a first come, first served basis at the Fam-ily Resources Center, located at 55 Jones Bend Road Extended. Astronomy on the Refuge The Ten-nessee National Wildlife Refuge is host-ing “Astronomy on the Refuge” night on Saturday, October 14th at the Refuge which is located at 1371 Wildlife Drive in Springville. The Visitor Center will open at 6pm with the pre-program to be held in the auditorium. Stargazing will be held from 7pm to 8pm on the back patio.This event is sponsored by the Friends of Tennessee NWR and is open to the public. Amateur astronomer Bob Vick-ers will present a program, and will help you to identify constellations and heav-enly bodies.
