(NEW YORK) Before Jim Gold & Co. could board aplane to Milan for a fashion fortnight in Europe, there wasone more important event to attend on the BergdorfGoodman premises. Akris hosted a brunch yesterday at BGalong with Dr. Frank Chervenak and the PresbyterianHospital Committee to highlight the company's Botticelli-esque spring collection and help highlight the charity'smain event later this year. Lizzie Tisch, Lisa Anastos,Christine Chun and Melissa Skoogwere some of thenames who joined Caroline Brown and Emilie Rubinfeldfrom Akris for a morning meal of mushroom and eggquiche, fruit salad, and warm croissants. And there wasplenty to smile about as fresh-faced models paraded aroundthe restaurant room. 2009will mark a 20 yearrelationship betweenBergforf and Akris' headdesignerAlbert Kriemler. And there's always the factthat Angelina Jolie has beenwearing the Swiss brandalmost non-stop this year--that kind of endorsementcan't be bad for business.

A Floral FêteThe New York Botanical Garden’s famed Orchid Dinner

fills the Rainbow Room with greeneryWednesday, February 25, 2009

(NEW YORK) The haute-est of new York societycame out last night for the New York Botanical Garden’sfamed Orchid Dinner, held at the Rainbow Room. Thestunning event, which raised somewhere around $600,000for the gardens, started with cocktails in 30 Rock’sPegasus Suite, which was filled to the hilt with exoticorchids up for sale. "There’s not one plain white orchidthere!" exclaimed Gillian Miniter, one of the night’schairs, after browsing the gorgeousbuds.

But the evening’s floral spectacledidn’t end there; the twenty-something tables in the RainbowRoom each had a unique orchidcenterpiece atop it, by leadingflorists and designers. PatrickMcMullan flitted around snappingshots as one guest took in the lovelyscenery: "On a night like tonight, when you have this view--really itcould not be prettier!" One of thecreation’s designers, MichaelTavano, was responsible for a Zencenterpiece including a glass vesselfull of greenery. And the flowers weren’t limited to the tabletops: Miniter wore a gold AngelSanchez dress, embellished with flowers. "I saw this over the summer and knew it would beperfect for the Orchid Dinner," she said, after chatting with the designer.

As guests trickled out after an evening of indulging and dancing, many carried out thepristinely packaged flowers they had bid on. Why didn’t Sanchez have an arrangement, oneguest wanted to know? "I wouldn’t know how to take care of it!" he laughed.
