Happy Thanksgiving from The Buzz Staff!
Always in the mood for fun,
Mrs. Beasley, Branson and
Blaze’s mom, decides to photo
bomb the pictures being taken
for the Spotlight of the Week!
In the Spotlight—Branson and Blaze Beasley
It takes all of us to make Pelham City Schools “The School System of Choice,” where we are committed to educational
excellence every day in every way. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter
to keep up with all the latest news.
The Pelham City School System does not
discriminate on the basis of race, color or
national origin, sex, or disability.
This week’s Hornet Spotlight shines
on Branson Beasley, brother of
Blaze Beasley. Branson is a senior at PHS and has attended Pelham Schools his whole life. He is in-
volved in FFA and 4-H, and he is the Drum Major for the Pelham Marching Hornets Band; he is also involved in showing cows. Branson
shows six different types of cows including Angus, Shorthorn Plus, Maine Heifers, and Crossbred Steers. He has been involved in cow showing
since he was in sixth grade and has a strong passion for it. “I was raised around 800 heads of cows and I have watched people show cows and I thought it would be fun,
and it is.” He has won many Championship titles and Reserved Grand Champion titles. Branson says he will show for the rest of his senior year and would like to
after he graduates high school, but he will probably be-come a “Show Jock.” A Show Jock is a person who fits and clips hair on cows preparing them for Cow Shows. While doing this, Branson will attend ABAC for two
years and then transfer to the University of Georgia to finish up his college years.
This week’s Hornet Spot-light also shines on Blaze
Beasley, sister of Branson Beasley. Blaze is a fresh-man at PHS and has attend-
ed Pelham School System her entire life. Blaze is involved in FFA, FCA, FCCLA and band, and she
also plays tennis. Blaze is involved in many activities, but her most prized hobby is showing cows. She has been showing cows since she was
eleven years old and has loved every minute of it. “I love meeting new people that love doing what I do, making money, and the excitement when you win.” She has won
fifteen Grand Champion titles, and twenty Reserved Grand Champion titles. Two years before Blaze started showing cows, she showed pigs, but once she began
showing cows, she never stopped. Blaze says she will continue to show cows for the rest of her high school years and after she graduates. When she graduates, she plans on attending national cow shows while attaining a
major in Animal Science to become an embryologist in the cattle industry.

This land is my land: There are four places in the U.S. named Turkey. Louisiana's Turkey Creek is the most populous, with a whopping 440 residents. There's also Turkey, Texas; Turkey, North Carolina; and
Turkey Creek, Arizona. Oh, let's not forget the two townships in Pennsylvania: the creatively named Up-per Turkeyfoot and Lower Turkeyfoot!
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appre-ciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~
John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Remember God's bounty in the year. String the pearls of His favor. Hide
the dark parts, except so far as they are breaking out in light! Give this one day to thanks, to joy, to gratitude! ~Henry Ward Beecher
Quotes of the Week
Around this time of the year people are grabbing jackets and basket-ball tickets. With such great success the Hornets and Lady Hornets
had last year, includ-ing both teams win-ning the Region
Championship and making it to the Elite 8. The girls finished with a season record
of 27-1. They’re the first Lady Hornets basketball team to go undefeated in the regular season (23-0). Our Lady Hornets lost one of their starters which
means they still have a lot of experience on the team. The goal of this
year is to get “Promise Land” or as you may know it, the State Cham-pionship. The boys finished with a season record of 24-4. However,
the boys graduated 6 seniors last year which means our 2014-2015 Hornets are young and determined to do whatever it takes to get the State Championship. Everyone is looking forward to a great basket-
ball season in the small town of Pelham, Georgia. The first official regular season game will be November 21st in Pelham at the old high school gym against P.K. Yonge. Come out and support your Hornets and Lady Hornets.
Best Friends of the Week Angela West and Ashley Cochran have been friends for 16 years. They
met when Ashley was dating
Angela’s cousin and she went to meet his family. Together they enjoy going shopping,
going out to eat, and going on vacations such as the beach and music concerts. Some of the most memorable moments
they share are riding four-wheelers at the sand dunes and mud bogging at the power
line in their great white truck, but they share many. The thing that Mrs. Cochran likes most about her best friend is that she can trust her and tell her anything. Mrs. West says there are so many things she
likes about Mrs. Cochran, so she cannot be limited to just one. “She has an amazing sense of humor and can make me laugh even when I don’t feel like it. She is a strong and caring person, beautiful inside
and out,” Angela said. “Ashley is a friend I can always depend on because no matter what she is doing or what time of day it is when I need her, she is there.” They share a bond that will last for a lifetime!
Basketball Season
This time every year young men come out to participate in the intense sport of wrestling. With a new year, comes a new coach. Coach Culley
is the new head coach, and he has some big plans in mind. He has the boys working hard to get them in shape for their first match which was Thursday, November 20. Whether its pushups, sit-ups, running or
wrestling until they collapse, Coach Culley will definitely have them ready. We hope our wrestling Hornets will have an amazing season! Good luck!

The PHS Sr. Beta Club hosted a blood drive on Friday November 14, 2014. They had 80
people sign up to donate blood, and the total collected in this blood
drive was 70 pints. It is extremely important for those who can donate to remember to do so espe-
cially during the very busy holi-day season. Sr. Beta sponsor,
Mrs. Wingate says this drive
was one of the best yet. The next project of the Beta Club is sell-
ing Christmas suckers during the month of December.

Black Friday
Every year for the Thanksgiving holiday there are traditions that are held all around the United States. Whether it’s a freshly cooked turkey on the table or cranberry
sauce in the stuffing or just on the side to make the flavors really pop, families gath-er around the table to enjoy the feasting on all the delicious food served. Other traditions such as cracking the wishbone are odder but many families battle it out
between one another to see who gets to crack the bone that has been taken from a turkey’s carcass and dried out. Whoever cracks the biggest piece is granted one wish. Some families even get up early enough to watch the Macys parade which takes place in New York City or even eat turkey and watch a football game. Thanks-
giving traditions have been held between all American since the pilgrims have founded the first colony in America and ever since then the traditions have contin-ued.
On Friday, November 26th local and nationwide businesses will be
hosting t h e i r a n nu a l
b l a c k F r i d a y s a l e . T h e
b u s i -nesses participating in this event will be offering special promotions to promote sales. This event attracts many
customers with their low prices on any sort of item they
want. This event is so popular that some customers even spend the night outside of the stores so they can be first in
line. Many local businesses, including Camilla’s Walmart will be opening early and offering promotional sales to kick off the holiday season. Since many of the businesses
around Pelham are small and private owned, they will be participating in Small Business Saturday, which is like Black
Friday, but is for smaller businesses. One business that will
be partaking in Small Business Saturday is Pelham’s own Home
Service Center. So come shop locally next weekend to support our businesses and get great deals!

Briunna Freeman Signs With Arkansas Razorbacks
Pelham’s very own, Briunna Freeman, made history by being the first basketball girl to sign to an SEC college on Tuesday, November 18, by signing early to the University of Arkansas. Briunna has won many awards, medals, plaques, trophies, and mentions
while playing high school basket-ball. During the 2013-2014 season she led her team to a region cham-
pionship. Even though Briunna loves basketball, she based her decision to sign with the Razor-backs on academics. “You know, I
look more at the academics than I look at the athletic part of a school” she said. “You can easily
get hurt or something could hap-pen, but you can always fall back
on majoring in something that you want to be.” While
playing Division 1 women’s basketball, Freeman plans on majoring in sociology and eventually become a social worker. Coach Tookes stat-
ed,” Briunna is a talented player and also a good student. I expect her to do big things at the University of Arkansas.” Coach Tookes’ style of coaching is another reason Briunna
chose Arkansas. She feels that the coaching style of Arkansas’ Coach Dyke is very similar to her high school coach’s style because both
are very intense. After signing, Briunna thanked her coaches, teachers, parents, fami-ly, and most importantly her teammates.
Harmony Smith is one of her teammates but also her best friend and read a beautifully written tribute to Briunna before everyone gathered to enjoy the deli-
cious food provid-ed by family and friends. The Buzz staff and Pelham
High School con-
gratulate Briunna Freeman on mak-
ing history and signing with the Universi ty of
Arkansas!
