Learn something new this summer with talented local artist and teacher Nana Ekow Maison. In this class, students will learn basic painting and drawing techniques, gain confidence in their abilities, and explore different media. See what you can accomplish in just four weeks! TAI CHI UNDER THE SUN Thursdays, Jul 31 – Aug 21, 5:15–5:45pm

Tai chi is an ancient Chinese martial art that can also be a health exercise. In this class, we will practice simple meditative movements, breathing and mental focus in our quest to relax, re-energize and center. No prior tai chi experience necessary for this class. Loose clothing is best, but if that's not possible, come as you are. Class takes place on the Sun Plaza, weather permitting, to allow students to reflect on the beauty and peace found in nature. WEEK 1: JUNE 9–JUNE 13LEGO® & K’NEX® Building Camp

Engineering, architecture, design, and invention – encourage your child to explore all of these and much more in our LEGO and K’NEX Building Camp! Each day will bring about a new challenge; from building boats and bridges to creating stop-motion animation, this week has something for everyone. Although no LEGO activities will be take-home projects, pictures will be taken and shared with each camper’s family. There is a $20 surcharge added to this week for ‘make and take’ K’NEX activities.

WEEK 2: JUNE 16–JUNE 20Skies Over Hogwarts Camp

The Hogwarts Express is once again making a special stop at the Peoria Riverfront Museum this summer! Want-to-be witches and wizards will have a blast using chemistry to make potions, learning while playing games, and creating one-of-a-kind Harry Potter™ themed art projects to take home. The camp begins with a special visit from the Sorting Hat, and includes a spectacular Planetarium experience where connections will be drawn between the stars in the movies and the stars in the sky! Don’t miss this long-time favorite!

WEEK 3: JUNE 23–JUNE 27Believe It or Not!® Camp

Join us for a week so packed full of everything wacky, weird, and whimsical that you won’t believe your eyes! Find out the science behind every day oddities, create your own optical illusions, and so much more in our new Believe It or Not Camp! Visits to The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not!exhibition will serve as the inspiration for campers as they experience a truly unique week of fun.

WEEK 4: JULY 7–JULY 11Art and Science Camp

Exercise both sides of your child’s brain in this week jam-packed with take-home art projects and unforgettable science experiments! From painting to paleontology, every camper will find something fun and exciting to do that is both compelling and age-appropriate.

WEEK 5: JULY 14–JULY 18LEGO® & K’NEX® Building Camp

BEFORE AND AFTER CAREA Before and After Care will be provided for interested families. Before Care is from 7:15 a.m.- 8:45 a.m. and After Care is from 3 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. $6 per session or flat fee of $12 per day. Minimum participation required.

Peoria Riverfront Museum reserves the right to impose a fee of $5 for every 5 minutes that a camper remains at the museum before or after the stated drop-off/pick-up times.

Zentangle® is the newest art-craze sweeping the nation. Started in New England by calligrapher Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, a monk and flute-maker, Zentangle® combines the art of meditation and relaxation with the beauty of free-form drawing. No previous artistic ability is needed to create these unique patterns, called tangles. Once practiced, this technique can be used to

Members of the FIRST Robotics Team 1736 will be at the museum again to lead two workshops that will introduce participants to building and programming robots using LEGO® Mindstorm’s NXT Robotics Kits. Advanced participants will even get to experiment with special features like ultrasonic light and touch sensors! All materials are provided; students may sign up for one or both workshops.
