Periodic Table Practice
You will receive a blank Bohr Model and an element.
Create the Bohr model for the element. Draw your electrons DARK so that they can be seen from the board.
Follow this pattern to make comparing everyone’s Bohr models easier:
Place your first 2 electrons on the top, Work your way around clockwise, Only place electrons on the top, right,
bottom and left.
Valence Electrons
Valence electrons and stability –Which group on the periodic table always
has all its valence electron shell full? _______________________
– Every element wants to have a full outer shell – because then it is ______________________.
– Elements that are stable don’t _____________.– Every element wants to be a
________________ because they have full valence e-, and are stable!!
Lewis Dot Diagrams…
• Gilbert Lewis used a different model than Bohr, and he only showed the valence e- in it.
• His model is called the Lewis dot structure .He put dots around the symbols so that we can see just the valence electrons for the elements (so we can easily see which e- are going to react)
See the difference??...Lewis just shows the valence e-
